    From JAPAN- The PM of New Zealand offered a national apology to hundreds of thousands of children and the eldrely who were abused in institutions over the past 70 years. Israeli media say Netanyahu now admits his government was behind the exploding pager attacks in Lebanon. The Guardian newspaper has ceased posting on X which it called a toxic platform. The COP29 United Nations Climate Change Conference opened this week in Azerbaijan- the conference president called for unity and to recognize that climate change is already here despite corporate denial- the goal is to get developed countries to aid poorer developing ones.

    From FRANCE- A report on the financial assistance that organizers hope to create at COP29. Developing countries will need one trillion dollars annually to adapt to climate change and bring their pollution into line with the goals of the Paris Accords- one trillion dollars is one percent of global GDP, also a year of pure profit for the fossil fuel industry.

    From GERMANY- The Biden administration promised to cut off weapons to Israel if they did not allow more aid into Gaza within 30 days. Aid agencies say that even less aid is getting through now than since the war began. Professor Michael Lynk former UN rappoteur on human rights in Palestine discusses the situation and how the Trump presidency will change things. EU Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell proposed suspending EU-Israel political dialogue over breaches of international law.

    From CUBA- Iran says that Israel should be expelled from the UN for the wars in Palestine and Lebanon. Pegasus is spyware blacklisted by the US in 2021 for its use to spy on journalists, opposition politicians, and activists- Colombia alleges that the US financed an $11 million purchase for the spyware to be install in Colombia in 2021.

    From GERMANY- Clearly the US Presidential election was the primary topic in the international media this week. Here is a review of how various European leaders responded to the Trump victory. They all congratulated him, but remain wary of how future relations will evolve, especially regarding defense and the environment.

    From FRANCE- . A multitude of weather disasters were made worse because of the warming climate, as reported by Copernicus, the European Union climate monitor. Then a series of press reviews on the Trump victory from Australia, China, Jerusalem, and Europe. Then a report on Netanyahu praising the Trump victory while admitting that he has no plans to stop the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel attacked the last remaining medical facility in northern Gaza, while Israeli settlers continued violent attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank.

    From CUBA- Venezuela concluded its World Anti-Fascist Parliamentary Forum- they stressed the need for global unity in the fight against fascism,neo-fascism, and imperialism.

    From JAPAN- The operator of the Fukushima nuclear reactors has finally managed to retrieve a few grams of highly radioactive fuel debris out of 880 tons remaining in the facilities. Japan's nuclear regulator has given permission to operate the first interim storage site for spent nuclear fuel. The Russian Presidential office have declined to comment on the US government report that thousands of North Korean troops have arrived in the Kursk region. Health authorities in Lebanon say that Israel has killed more than 3000 people.

    From FRANCE- First a press review from Israeli and Arab media about the Israeli Parliament banning UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine). Then from the NYT a piece about widespread use of herbicides in the Amazon forest, not unlike what is done in the Pacific northwest forests. An edition of Perspective Perspective- speaking with John Christensen, director of the UN Environment Programs Copenhagen Climate Center. The topic is the recent warning from the UN that efforts to reduce climate change must be applied at once, as evidenced by the extreme weather events of the past two years. They say that fossil fuel consumption must be sharply cut back at once or the 1.5 degree Paris agreement will be impossible. The UN is urging countries to implement their plans to reduce carbon at once. And he speaks to the absence of the subject in the US presidential campaign. Then a press reviews from Russia and South Korea about North Korean troops in Russia.

    From GERMANY- Israel has launched airstrikes in and around the ancient city of Baalbek after warning the entire area to evacuate. Many of the evacuees were Lebanese who had gone there to avoid the bombing of their homes in the south.

    From CUBA- Lebanon has launched a complaint with the UN Security Council demanding a condemnation of Israeli attacks on their country- over 2400 Lebanese people have been killed so far. Israeli bombings of UN schools in Gaza City resulted in three more journalists being killed, bringing the total to 180 in a little over a year. Central London has seen large demonstrations against right-wing extremism, which created violent race riots this past summer.

    From GERMANY- A significant number of Israeli politicians and civilians are making preparations for new settlements in Gaza. Middle East analyst and editor Daniel Gerlach talks about the settlement movement in Israel which has moved from an extremist notion to become popular. He explains that international laws against new settlements remain. The BRICS summit is underway in Russia this year and now includes Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Dozens of other countries are considering joining. The goal is to promote peace, security, development, and cooperation in a multipolar world. An interview with Theresa Fallon, Director of the Centre for Russia Europe Asia Studies in Brussels. She assesses the power of the organization as a counterweight to Western influence, and how they are working to dethrone the power of US sanctions as a domineering force in global policy.

    From JAPAN- By Thursday morning BRICS leaders had adopted a joint communique calling for the elimination of unilateral economic sanctions, and 30 other countries have expressed interest in strengthening ties with the bloc. On the sidelines of the summit, China and India vowed to improve relations through dialogue.

    From FRANCE- Some press reviews about COP 16, the biodiversity conference that has begun in Colombia. And a press review about how both US Presidential candidates promoting fracking may keep people from voting in Pennsylvania.

    From CUBA- In Australia an indigenous senator shouted that King Charles was not his king and the Prime Minister told him Australia should become an independent republic. In the US protests against US support of the Israeli wars on its neighbors.

    From FRANCE- In a report on Monday, Oxfam West Bank Policy lead, Bushra Khalidi, describes the situation in Northern Gaza. Oxfam and other relief agencies have not been able to assist anyone in Gaza since the first of October. Palestinians are being bombed and starved to death while being told to move to safe areas that are not safe- they have nowhere to go. Bushra accuses the international community of complicity in the deaths and suffering. Press reviews from Tuesday on Netanyahu and the timing for the plan to escalate the war before the US election. Amazon, Google, and other tech giants are buying and building nuclear powerplants in the US to supply the needs of Artificial Intelligence servers.

    From GERMANY- The US military used a Stealth bomber to attack numerous sites in Yemen as retaliation for Houthi attempts to support Palestinians- Marina Miron, military analyst from Kings College London, discusses the significance of the deployment and what it may portend for the Israeli response to Iran and the region. International condemnation is growing over Israeli attacks on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.

    From JAPAN- In North Korea, following drones from South Korea dropping propaganda leaflets, the North Koreans stationed artillery units near the border. Then a few days later they destroyed roads in the area.

    From CUBA- Police arrested more than 200 Americans protesting in front of the New York stock exchange- they were demanding an end to US support for the Israeli wars in Palestine and Lebanon.

    From GERMANY- Monday was the one year anniversary of the Hamas attack in Israel with actions taking place globally. Students at Columbia University, both pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian, gathered and remembered the day from different perspectives. Israel continued its bombing of mosques and schools in Gaza, alleging that they were being used as Hamas command centers and killing civilians. The UN says that 90% of Gazans have been displaced multiple times.

    From FRANCE- First an Israeli press review from October 7th. A press review from the Independent (UK) presented a front page with facts and figures from the war on Palestine, followed by some other international press reviews. Then an interview with Ahmed Benchemsi, a Communications Director at Human Rights Watch on the treatment of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons- HRW says it is a war crime.

    From CUBA- French President Macron has called for an arms embargo on Israel. Israeli forces killed Hassan Hamad, a 19 year old Palestinian journalist in a targeted assassination.
