  • This time the Scot and the Swede explore cinema's transformational potential, whether it be feminist body-horror starring the demure Demi Moore in The Substance or through spiritual mentoring in the potentially hilarious 17 Again. They decide once and for all between style or The Substance, and would Hollywood screenwriters rather have their daughters fall in love with them or, god forbid, think they were gay?

Josh beats us over the head with a Scottish EDM-coming of age-story, while Mårten goes full oedipal complex with a bizarre Swedish cult classic.

  • Join the circus as these two clowns talk sad clown-films! They're both crying on the inside, but is it because the movies are so touching or because of the hours wasted watching them? The Scot and the Swede continue their own private folie à deux that is this podcast, with a look at Joker 2, crowning it the best courtroom-drama comicbook-musical ever made! After which they go back almost a 100 years, to take a look at the true origins of both Batman's nemesis and, somewhat alarmingly, an entire subgenre of youporn-videos. For Scot and Swede-recommendations Josh reveals his provocative choice for best Scottish film of all time and Mårten watched a Swedish prison-series based on true events.

  • Tag along as the Scot and the Swede AND Deadpool & Wolverine AND Thelma AND!!! Louise take you on a buddy-pod roadtrip through the American southwest and across the Marvel multiverse. They are still intent on alienating any listeners along the way; this time even going after the Swifties! After we reach our freeze-frame destinations Mårten has a scottish recommendation that may challenge the entire concept of a Scottish film recommendation. While Josh has been rifling through the archives at Lund University for some controversial anti-capitalist propaganda. Stay tuned until the end to find out which Swedish porn film Josh watched, and to hear about his grandma's biggest turn-offs!

  • The Scot and the Swede start off strong talking about the weather… just some top notch-podcasting this. But do not fret! The discussion rapidly devolves into colonialism, ape-sex and killing dogs as they do a double feature on the new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Hungarian indie-fable White God. Mårten is determined to alienate most of our audience with his morbid would-you-rathers and Josh conveniently forgets paedophilic subplots as long as there’s some cute dogs onscreen. Is this the episode they get cancelled? Let’s find out!

Josh also recommends a new Netflix-sensation with roots in lovely Fife and Mårten finally takes the lid off the Ingmar Bergman-embargo.

  • In Episode 5 the Scot and Swede take aim at the baddest of baddies: on-screen Nazis! Pairing this year's The Zone of Interest with the early noughty’s winter zombie film Dead Snow.

Josh and Mårten discuss the humanization and dehumanization of history’s most heinous political movement, modern complicity in swipe-pastable activism and even the far right’s rise in Scandinavia… before descending into the blood spattered, penis-biting, snowmobile murdering, frozen gutters of Død snø (pronounced often, but badly, by Josh the Scot).

The Scot then recommends a wholesome Scottish drama where we all learn the value of community, whiskey and badly shot star scenes. Our Swedish recommend is a less uplifting TV drama following a Swedish serial killer giving the Scot and the Swede an excuse to muse over the ethics of true crime shows in 2024.

  • The Scot and the Swede will treat you to another double feature, this time a space opera extravaganza; discussing sci-fi geopolitics, blood orgies and acid flashbacks in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 before getting into the subtleties with which the Wachowskis and Mila Kunis characterize their trope-suberting sci-fi hero in Jupiter Ascending.

In the end Josh has hunted down a Scottish Netflix thriller and Mårten delivers a deep cut from the Stellan Skarsgård-archives.

Listen in as we reveal the unexpected best Christmas movie of the year and finally reveal our #1 films of 2023, with the sound of Josh's girlfriend cooking dinner in the background. In the end Mårten recommends a Swedish porn-film (what's he like), and Josh fishes out some grisly Scottish magic realism.

  • The Scot and the Swede stumble into another episode to list our top 10 films of 2023. Bit late to the party, but we've been busy.

Nerd out with us as we nitpick the best films of the year for brandwashing, dog-killings and confusing twist endings as well as arrogantly proposing our own rewrites. Josh also recommends a Scottish thriller with an accompanying Peter Mullan-sandwich story and Mårten talks about a certain quirky film director named Andersson with a very distinct color palette (probably not the one you're thinking about).

  • For our first episode, we pair Poor Things (2023) with Easy A (2010) to discuss Emma Stone, Spider-Man cast crossovers and even make a courageous attempt to touch on the difficulties for women to exercise sexual agency in a corrupt, patriarchal system... Yup. If you also have been thinking that we need a podcast where boys talk about movies made by boys, that deal with the hardships of female sexuality. Think no more!

The Scot and the Swede will delve deep into the weeds of duck-pigs and bubble-burps in Yorgos Lanthimos psychadelic fairytale.

Before we get to the bottom of whether Stanley Tucci was Emma Stone's biological father and what the heck is up with all those oranges in Easy A?

Josh also has a classic Scottish folk horror to recommend, while Mårten watched a Swedish documentary and finally realised that all docus aren't boring.
