In this timely episode, Dave is once again joined by Pete Matthew, all round top bloke, Meaningful Money podcast host and CEO Jackson Wealth. Pete has joined the show three times before so do check out those episodes as they provide a useful foundation for today's discussion (ep's 68, 32 & 48). Since our last episode where we talked about the impact of the so-called 'cost of living crisis and talk of a recession, we take stock of current events including the very recent change of government in the UKPete Matthew is a very content husband to Jo and father of two grown-up daughters. He's a Chartered Financial Planner and CEO of Jacksons Wealth Management in Penzance. In 2010 he set up a video camera and decided to start teaching the world about how money works. Over 1000 videos and podcast episodes later and that project - Meaningful Money - has become a business in its own right and has reached hundreds of thousands of people to help them manage their own finances. He's a keyboard player and drummer, a fan of the Canadian prog-rock trio Rush and owns a Jack Russel called Maisy who he loves more than his kids.

This week I build on last week's episode in which I shared some ideas on tackling our unhelpful default habits and behaviours. This week I explore default thinking habits and patterns and those that self-sabotage or undermine our efforts to work towards our goals. It can be a really powerful approach to achieving our goals when we combine a focus on the behaviours with a focus on our underlying thinking patterns. I share a way to frame our unhelpful or self-sabotaging thinking and provide some advice on how we can start to tackle them.David Algeo is a Restless Midlifer, searching for answers and adventure. This week I explore how to change our default habits. The habits that tend to consistently undermine our health and weight-loss efforts are often pretty well rooted and can be tough to change. Consequently we can resort to avoidance as a strategy to give ourselves the illusion of action whilst not actually making any significant or sustained change. I share two kinds of classic avoidance that we need to guard against and share an approach to tackling the changing of our default habits, rituals and routines.David Algeo is a Restless Midlifer, searching for answers and adventure. This week I continue with my S.H.I.T.E. Guide to overcoming over-eating, over-thinking, over-anything; anything that we engage in in an effort to block out, numb, or avoid underlying discomfort, issues or inner-conflicts.I explore the 'I' of the S.H.I.T.E. Guide and explore isolation, loneliness and disconnection. As humans, this is a powerful evolved need and one we often dismiss as minor or unimportant. Unless, that is you happen to have experienced it yourself.
I explore the difference between solitude and isolation and why the former can be positive, whilst the latter can be overwhelmingly negative. I share how this is not just a psychological pain, but how it affects us physically and for good reason. I also share some thoughts and tips on how to start to reconnect and how we can use our physical habits and mindset to bolster our need for social connection when it isn't at its best.

It's episode122.
This week I introduce you to my S.H.I.T.E. Guide to overcoming over-eating, over-thinking and over-working. I often say when it comes to health and weight-loss 'it's not about the diet.' The reason for that is that whilst IT DOES MATTER what we eat, how much we eat and how much activity we build into our lives, that's not where the real challenges are. It's in the day-to-day stresses and challenges of life, our own self-limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviours and how we manage ourselves and those challenges. That's where the S.H.I.T.E. Guide comes in handy. It helps you pinpoint what aspect of life's crap we need to focus on dealing with and get to work on clearing it out. Ths week I give an overview of the S.H.I.T.E. Guide, and in coming weeks I will dive deeper in each of the areas of S.H.I.T.E. offering suggestions on how to overcoem the challenges and stay on track with our goals. If you would like a copy of the new S.H.I.*.E.
