Heat better on muscles (moist heat is better so add a moist towel if you have a dry heating pad)

Oh my goodness
This is a lifesaver for inflammation and disc herniation pain and other pains.
You have been asking me for some super simple practical things to do.
Here is one of my favorites
Inflammation is the enemy. Not the disc. I’ll keep preaching that over and over until you get that. Lol
Handling inflammation can happen in a variety of ways.
One of the ways is getting your body to use fat for energy. Known as ketosis (a video on another day) the body is in a place to make massive amounts of energy by using the fat molecules of food and creating ketones that help heal inflammation.
It’s really that cool and simple but it requires healthy fats. And it requires lots of them. Which is hard for people to do.
In reality most don’t actually do ketosis diets but are in fact calorie restricting (another video)

Most people focus on getting rid of their pain as fast as they can in whatever way they can.
Most of those ways don’t fix the cause or the foundation. And then these poor folks are usually left to suffer again in the future.
The human body is amazing, and it has the ability to heal.
But healing also comes with a price. Pain.
Have you ever watched a football game or sporting event where an athlete’s lower leg snaps? You don’t even want to watch the replay because it makes your stomach churn. That type of injury to the athlete is the same as what is happening with your disc. Only it’s in your spine and likely means nerves are involved also.
So, the way you heal is not going to be the same as an ankle sprain except that is typically how the medical community handles it.

Most people who have a bulge or herniation in their intervertebral discs are told and therefore believe that the disc is the problem. Their doctor or therapist or friends even tell them that the piece of disc tissue is the issue, and they should therefore have it removed or do whatever it takes to fix it.
I say that’s not true and not only is it not true it is preventing massive of amounts of people from healing and getting out of pain.
How do I know?
Simple. Dr. John Sarno MD in his book Healing Back Pain talks about how in his years in practice he would see people with the smallest bulge whose lives were turned upside down in pain. He would also see people who had some of the worst herniations he had ever seen, and they had no pain at all.
Why? Because the disc isn’t THE PROBLEM. It’s A problem but not THE PROBLEM.

We have all either been in pain or know someone close to us in intense pain. We want to help but we make the horrible mistake of telling them “it’s going to be ok”.
Intense pain actually activates a part of the brain that gets that person in an intense amount of focus to the present. Almost to the point where they can’t see beyond the moment.
While we are trying to be supportive, we are actually hurting their healing.
It’s better to say something like “it’s ok that you are in pain now”. “It’s ok to feel that pain”. “Sometime in the future it will be ok but for now it’s ok to feel the pain”.
We forget that pain is a process of healing. We want them out of it and through it now, but the body has a plan. It can’t be ignored. It can’t be cheated.
Now that’s not an excuse to not do the work necessary to healing but a mindset to honor what is happening in the moment.
Let’s stop blowing smoke up their butts and trying to make them feel something they can’t and help the healing process in the moment.

You must absolutely continue to adapt your routine when it comes to chronic pain
The Nerve System and the Brain need to constantly have their information updated which means new stretches, new therapies, etc.
So, if you find your doing the same thing over and over for more than 90 days it’s time to upgrade your routine

One of the mistakes I see people make is that they want so desperately to feel better they do the work in the wrong order or they skip steps.
When the spine is injured you have to understand it’s a serious trauma and needs to be addressed accordingly and done in the right order.
Example: If the spine is stuck you can’t do Physical Therapy and win long term. Not as the first step.
Learn about micromotion first.
Then handling inflammation.
And on and on.
A to Z has to be done in the right order!

Pain is everywhere during this pandemic
Physical with our bodies
Chemical with our lifestyle decisions
Mental/Emotional with what we choose to let in our minds
And the simple fact is during this time of pain many people refuse to get help they need for fear of being infected and getting sick.
So how do we handle this pain?
We start our day and structure it to win.
Turn off the news and disengage with social media will bring healing to your emotional/mental states. Reach out to a professional if you need as it is the right thing to do. Choose healthy with foods and beverages. But have some fun cheats too! Start each morning (right after using the bathroom) with a glass of water, a couple minutes of gratitude, and some healthy easy stretching.By doing this you can reset your stress hormones which help balance brain neurotransmitters that in turn can help with the rest of the cascade of healing.
There, 3 simple things

I’ve been dealing with a massive amount of stress just like everyone else has. I’m also freaked out by the new “unnormal” out there and trying to figure out how to make sense of it all as well as my own life, health, and business.
And within all of it I’m scared. I’m not going to lie to you. It’s scary from many angles.
And that added stress has added massive amounts of stress hormones to my system which has cause inflammation and has now made my back flare up and pissed off my disc and my leg etc..
What I’ve been learning is that our pain is mostly our emotional stress and our emotional state.
Dr. Sullivan in an earlier episode told us that after a few days our pain centers in our brain change from the place associated with the area of our body that hurts to the emotional center called the amygdala.
Now imagine this area storing all your stress memories and being bombarded now all day by the news and the other things you are dealing with now.
Welcome to the flare up as the stress is too much.
That’s what I’ve been dealing with.
So, here are a few things I’m doing to help myself right now.
Gratitude journal Journaling my emotions Reading my Bible Prayer And something I had forgotten to do for a while is EFT (emotional freedom technique) in the form of something called Tapping.Instead of telling you how here a link is to learn how. I promise it will help you dramatically.
