  • Brett and I met at a book reading by modern Sufi mystic, Jonathan Talat Phillips who wrote a book called the Electric Jesus where he talks about awakening that he had the experience where he had to bring in and met amazing people and took just the right amount of psychedelics to have this greater opening into the universe. It was during 2010-2011, when I went for the book reading by Jonathan that Brett and I got into the conversation after the reading and we connected.

People these days are more about holding space; Brett want to be more about beholding space. He’s a student of the sky and the earth and their marriage. His practice is in astrology and he does consultations and teachings. But mostly he is inspired to travel around and connect to these ancient sites and contemplate how they work. Tracing back to the ancient times and trying to keep the intuition open while he is also doing research. But a lot of what he teaches is around the quadrivium.

Astrology is the highest of the lower sciences and above astrology it’s hard to say but maybe prayer and abundance and grace or love is at the top. Before you gain access to the temple of Astrology you will study the first trivium like grammar and rhetoric and logic but then you can gain access to, what they call the quadrivium which is the secret sciences of number.

The sacred science of number is expressed through arithmetic (number in nature), sacred geometry (number in space), musical harmony (number in time), and astronomy (number in space AND time). According to Brett, we've lost a lot of connection to the scentient embodied experiental side to astrology. It's often the case that it's now a really mental game and in the purely intuitive and psychic realms. There's something to be said for seeing the world like a plant.

Astrology is the secret science and it is the poetic breath of nature. A Mystic is one who chooses to look beyond the veil. Certainly, most true, that which is below is like that which is above and which is above is like that which is below to accomplish the mirror goals is the one and only thing.

Astrology is too often used as a way out
Astrology should be a way in. Part of claiming that connection to the all is by taking responsibility for our creation. I think in the mystic path one ingredient that we see is pretty much uniform and in everyone- you and nick - is at the time of isolation.

The trick of the thing is that the magic wand is in your hand the whole time, so everything is your life- with in, without- from 9/11 to Fukushima are part of you and your creation.

The important thing is this- any fool can count the number of seeds in an apple not the wisest being can count the number of apples in a seed.

Here you are earthling on earth and in that moment of your birth or in this moment when you are speaking now, the planets are surrounding us in a very specific geometry and I like to think of them musically and there is a good reason to and as if each of these planets has an instrument or a tone and they are like playing the note of the sign on which they reside and so together they surround the earth and they play the gem of the moment now.

If we all stand up right now and whatever the now is for you and reach our hands towards the heaven, we are all pointing at a different place
because the Earth is spinning and the heavens are spinning above us. If you drew a cord down through our spine into the centre of the earth, we will all meet in space and in time, in the heart of Gaya, that is this one place where all beings of this planet connect.

Astrology and Astronomy used to be one and the same and it was not too long ago, actually astronomy is half of astrology. Astrology is not just measurement of the movement, and the sizes of the planets, and the nature of the things but then it’s how those planets are energetically playing with one another and then with earth and she with us. These days’ astrologers are only doing their correspondence piece.

Astrology for Brett is not just reading these charts looking down and speaking this weird language, its remembering that, that chart is just a model of the actually reality happening.

The real way of learning is to engage- If you want to learn East, go sit East and watch east
Sunsets and just go over there and watch it for 4 or 5 hours. My practice is East, I am Brett. I give myself to you, will you please give me yourself tonight? I am your student.

  • This week we’re talking about Meditation. What is meditation, why it’s important and I’ll even give you a couple of meditation techniques for you to take home with you by the time we’re done! I’ve been meditation for a very long time and I’m so excited to share what I know with you. I am going to be releasing my own guided meditation trainings soon! Email me or comment or hit us on our socials and we will put you in the know!

    2:36 - Meditation 101

The fact that meditation is gaining popularity is encouraging the prospect that it might be the thing that will save us from killing each other. Meditation is one of the largest influencers of personal growth in my own life.

Meditation is so brilliant because it allows you to be more present and have more control over your mind. The world’s richest, most effective and most successful people all meditate. When you are less reptilian brained about the things stressing you out in your life you almost have a superpower.

When you can stay composed during stressful experiences because you’ve experienced states of consciousness in meditation that allow you to have more of a grasp on your mind, it makes everything in your life happier, more balanced and moves the universe into your favor. Or at least collaborates and interconnectedness of all things so you can benefit from it. Because the universe wants you to succeed.

Everything is interconnected. The universe wants you to have love in your life and to be the love in your life. When you can meditate and apply some simple disciplines in how you makes decisions, it can be so powerful.

5:45 - Start Meditating With Tech

There are plenty of ways to get started and there’s plenty of tech to help you out, be it apps or wearables. Apps like Headspace have a 10 day free trial before.

    9:30 - Unpacking Meditation

Meditation takes intention and practice to get it right but I think people overcomplicate what it is. I always hear “No way, man! I can’t not think!” Meditation isn’t a lack of thinking. Meditation is having a thought and then going back to your breath or mantra. It’s like a bicep curl. It’s having a moment of “Oh, I’m thinking of something.” and going back to your mantra or breath. And every time you go back to your breath, you get a gold star. It’s a repetition.

The present moment is such a challenging concept for a lot of people to grasp. The present moment is the ability to follow your breath and just be. Don’t be productive or funny or thoughtful, but just be. And the easiest way to do that is to follow your breath. Being present with your inhale AND your exhale.

When you’re able to stay present in every single breath, it gets easier and these moments of happiness and uncluttering and defragmentation your human biocomputer. That big wrinkly ping globule in your skull.

When you’re focusing on your breath, you’re not crunching numbers or feeling happy or sad, you’re just being present on your breath.

In any sort of mystical practice, being present in your breath strengthens your ability.

    15:00 - Meditation Techniques

I was taught transcendental meditation by my dad when I was about 12 years old and it was really simplified. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the different meditation techniques, we’ll break it down for you here.

    17:30 - Meditation

Started by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, you are given a sound when you take the Transcendental Meditation class. My father taught me to sit in a chair with proper posture, where to put your hands (root chakra) and to imagine visualizing the letters of the sound you make. I see a W and an A out in the ocean and that’s my mantra for Transcendental Meditation.

Imagine a ping pong ball on top of the ocean. The ping pong ball is sloshing around on top of the waves. The more consistently you can get deep into meditation, recite your mantra and be present, the further the ball sinks just under the surface of the water. And the more present you can be, the ping pong ball drops a bit deeper and it moves less. Your goal is to put a still ping pong ball on the ocean floor.

You’re supposed to meditate 20 minutes in the morning before breakfast and 20 minutes in the evening before dinner about 3 times a week.

At the end of the meditations, I felt depleted. I felt relaxed and at peace, but I felt like my energy had been zapped. And for that reason, I got more into mindfulness.

    37:45 - Mindfulness

By dropping the mantra and focusing on the breath, you . Mindfulness was really effective for me because dropping the mantra caused the experience to be more peaceful, effective and pure.

The power of mindfulness meditation is that no matter what, you can go to your breath. From mindfulness, I was picking up on subtle impressions. My mystical soup, my storm of mystical experiences with psychedelics, meditation, floating, spirit guide work and yoga all kept pointing me towards meditation with a bit more purpose. I wanted to connect with my non-physical crew.

41:00 - Connecting with Spirit Guides

While I loved mindfulness meditation, I was greeted in collaboration with my spirit guides. These spirit guides would come to me in different ways and I cultivated a relationship with them and understood their identity and presence. My meditation then became time to appreciate them and my life and my connection with my higher self.

We’ll spend a whole other podcast digging into communicating with your guides, but in short, you can develop a two way road of collaboration with your spirit guides and that’s where my meditation eventually went. And you can do ALL OF IT! You have the same abilities that I do.

    50:00 - Meditation Wrap Up

Oftentimes I can sense what is, and it all came from out of being still. Meditation will help you develop your mystical abilities to recognize life’s major pivot points. And that is the whole point of this meditation stuff! If you are meditating regularly, you will be able to see through the noise and capitalize on what’s presented in front of you.

You won’t be the ping pong ball being sloshed arounds by alerts, and notifications and cars and bosses and budgets. Meditation will allow you to drop below the surface of the water, become calm with the storm going on above the surface, and be more in touch with yourself and the way you want to live your life.

  • Why would I want to jump into podcasting?

The quick answer is I want to present my side of things. I want to help people. I want to give my insights in what I’ve learned in my 34 years that may help people elevate their consciousness, deepen their spirituality and learn something they didn’t know before. [3:00]

    Mystic Mac’s Podcast List

You can tell alot about a person based on the podcasts they listen to. The full list of Podcasts that I listen to are listed in the Links and Resources section, in order of the most recently added.

I have learned so much from podcasts. I’ve listened to so much free content over the last 6-7 years and have bought books when my favorite podcasters release them that I want to play my part.

Thank goodness for Pateron. Patreon makes it easy for you to donate to the shows that you listen to be able to give in a very real way and it’s a very awesome service that I use to support my podcast. Mine will be coming soon!

    Why I Podcast

I want to contribute and I want to give back. I have learned a lot in my experience as a business owner, a dad, psychedelic work, meditation and also be spiritual practice. I have information to share.

I want to help activate people. I want to help educate people. I want to help elevate people. The Mystic Mac podcast is meant to shed some light on topics that are on the underbelly of culture.

Mainstream culture does a really effective job at marginalizing things towards the fringe and out of convention. It’s all the underbelly and fringe stuff and the topics in the periphery that we’ll be digging into (like the pyramids as devices for soul travel, ancient civilizations, alternative therapy, etc.) and I want to help educate you on some of the things that I’ve learned.

I don’t have all the answers. But I do a lot of research and do a lot of thoughts on this stuff. So if I can help educate you guys with this podcast that will live on until the sun burns us up, that’s my goal.

We all need a little bit of activation.

We’re gonna touch on everything from meditation, to astral projection practices to interviews. Hopefully this activates something inside of you. Your “third eye”. Your “higher self”. I hope it urges you to seek out more information and to follow Alice down the rabbit hole.

This is meant to chronicle my journey to helping lead people in a very real way. To help activate people and give them a sense of significance. We’re all looking for some significance and it starts inside of you.

I have hopes and dreams to grow an empire of other people like retreat centers, communities, hemp farms, float centers and have places where they can really grow and get guidance and some real things.

I want to be a person that helps bring in this consciousness revolution. I really believe we’re at the tip of it. We’re really starting to turn a corner where there are so many people waking up, activating themselves, asking good questions, challenging the status quo, creating their own thing. [20:41]

Influencer marketing phenomenon is just beginning. Individuals are getting other positive attention and are able to influence people based on an advanced version of word of mouth advertising.

    Tools

Throughout my time practicing to be a life coach, there are a couple of phrases that I advise to be used often. Two guiding principles and questions you can ask at any point.

“Does this serve my highest purpose?”

Asking yourself in any situation where you’re confused and don’t know what to do: “Does this serve my highest purpose?” Even if you aren’t crystal clear on what you’re highest purpose is, you still have an idea of if you do this thing will it be good or bad for you. You can use this whether you’re deciding whether or not you’re going to the gym, flip someone off, be passive aggressive with your significant other. 99% of the time you’re gonna get the correct answer immediately.

“Ask for what you need and give what you can.”

This is extremely important in relationships. There are people that we just don’t get along with. We’re just different people. But if you’re clear on what you need and if you’re clear about giving what you can, things become a lot less sticky. If people don’t know what you need from them, how will they give it to you?

If you need tighter deadlines to do your job, ask for those. Don’t just wallow or gossip or bring yourself stress, communicate to the people within your organization that you need tighter deadlines to do your job. Do you need a little bit of space from your lover? Do you need more vacation? To go for a walk? Ask for what you need.

Give what you can. Don’t give so much that you lose track of yourself. Where you’re overextending. Give what you can within reason. Give of yourself as far as you can manageably. You can think about this in a lot of different contexts.

    Guided Meditations

**TEASER ALERT** I do guided meditations for my clients to help them deal with stress, motivation etc. When I do these guided meditation/visualization/relaxation techniques it’s really effective. I have gotten such good feedback that I’m going to release my own series. They will be structured really well and will be very easy to digest. I hope that not only will you reference this podcast later, I hope you use and reference the meditations that are coming down the pipeline.

  • On this episode, I will be sharing my float philosophy and how it pertains to mystical practice. How you can use your own consciousness as a vessel to develop a mystical worldview and have mystical experiences.

In the last episode, I told you about my first float ever, when I floated in the basement of a dude named Ryan’s house (whom I found on Craigslist) and had a pretty life changing experience. Since then i have logged 550 floats of around an hour, sometimes longer. The longest float I’ve ever done was 9.5 hour
and that’s nowhere near the world record which is 25 hours.

  • On today’s episode, we will unpack the difference between mysticism and spirituality. We’ll also get into some of the various practices and experiences that you can use to get into a mystical state After I will share some methods you can do on your own that will help you deepen your innerverse so you can open that crown chakra on your head.

    The importance of Mysticism

We’re talking about the meat and potatoes of the human experience. In western culture, we are really good at working and being stressed out. We’ve perfected, glorified and put grinding and working hard and gettin’r’done on a pedestal.

And there’s no problem with hard work. Hard work is a nice balance between meditating under a tree and doing some hard labor. Working hard and providing for your family is of utmost importance to me as the owner of 2 Float centers.

    The importance of depth.

We’re gonna dive deeply into the most important things we can get into.

    What happens when we die?

    What are dream states about?

    Altered states of consciousness.

We’re living in concrete boxes cooking ourselves in WiFi signals, connected to our cell phones with push notifications, alerts, deadlines and all of that. The ancients were connected. They were connected to each other through deep meaningful relationships. They were more connected with the earth. And they were more in tune with subtle energy.

    Subtle Energy

Subtle energy can range from a first impression you get, subtle intelligence like your spirit guides, or even what it feels like to hug a tree! If you’ve never hugged a tree, go ground down, kick your shoes off, and connect with nature in a meaningful way. Getting into nature away from light pollution and noise will give you that subtle energetic impression. You hear the birds more clearly, you feel at ease, your shoulders relax down and back a bit, because your living in the vibration of nature.

    Mysticism vs Spiritualism Mysticism

My mother is spiritual. She used to talk to me about The Force. As an early gen-y guy, I grew up with the original Star Wars and she made an impression on me that there was such a thing.

We also went to a non denominational church where we talked about The Bible and God. It was hard for me to wrap my brain around the creation of earth but I had both sides in my life. The coolest parts of religion to me were the mystical portions.

The flood myth (which is part of every major religion) and those sorts of myth are connected back to an ancient knowledge that we’ve gotten away from. The dove, the cross, the magic that comes with religion.

Within every religion, there is a mystical element. Indigenous religions, tribal cultures, paganism. Mysticism is found in shamanism. Abrahamic faiths and eastern religions all have mystical ties.

As you fast forward to new-age religions and movements, you understand that there is an underlying theme of knowledge that is below the surface. A knowledge that is centered in our spirit and that is within us.

The knowledge that we are all tied together, you are me and i am you and we are one. This concept that we are not separated, that we are all tied together is an important part of mysticism.

    Spirituality

Spirituality is a broadly used term. Spirituality can mean a lot of different things. Spirituality is more broadly thought of as a process. Connecting to god, connecting to sacred texts and spirituality is a part of religion the same way mysticism is included in religion. That sort of sacred knowledge that these religions have is baked into this narrative.

Mysticism is a non denominational, all inclusive connection with divinity.

Ways You Can Experience Mysticism Meditation

Thank the gods meditation is getting a ton of attention these days. I recently did a workship called “Maximizing Your Mental ROI”. How do people deepen their mental states to optimize for their success and get the most out of their mind You’re probably not surprised to know the richest people you can think of meditate. Think Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs, etc.

When you meditate you are quieting your mind; you're doing bicep curls for your brain. The point of returning back to your breath or your mantra to make themselves better. To make themselves stronger mentally. Our original reptile brain (the amygdala) only wants to survive. Survive, make babies, don’t die.

Meditation takes us out of that reptile brain and into our prefrontal cortex that allows us to emote and think clearly, and emote, and have language and do all the things that make us divine beings of light love and truth.

When you meditate, you are able to control and manage your emotions and is the most easily accessible to deepen your human experience. You can manage your life because you are in control of your mental state.

Praying is about talking. Praying is about asking for what you need. Asking the wood gnomes and your ancestors or God or whoever else for guidance is talking .

Meditation is listening. When you meditate and allow what is to be, when you allow in the resonance of the universe, when you allow in your own intuition, when you allow in connection with your spirit guides, when you allow in contact from ascended masters, you are listening.

    Sensory Deprivation Tanks

Floating is the most effective way to improve yourself. I have over 550 hours of being in the float tank. I have been naked, suspended in 1000 pounds of epsom salt water in the dark and I have experienced all sorts of states of consciosuness. Jump to 26:20 to hear about my first floating experience where I had an out of body experience!

Do a Session with a Medium

Her thing was to connect with guides and elevated consciousness and inform our reality. She gets input like a bunch of people talking to her and she takes the most clear voice and then speaks through her voice. I will go through this in coaching sessions where I ask about a situation that may not being spoken about and .

She was right about both of my kids.

    Mystical Tools

The tarot. I’m sure when I say Tarot cards people think that it’s dark magic stuff but the cards themselves are not dark. Pentagrams, crystals. Crystals are incredible. They are a type of intelligence. They have information stored in them, they resonate in a certain way, and that’s why we use quartz and silica in our cell phones. We’ll be doing a whole episode on crystals for sure.

  • Summary of Episode

On today’s episode we’re going to define mysticism, how I found my way into a mystical practice and if you stick around until the end of the episode I’ll show some things you can do on your own to start deepening your universe and get more in touch with your ability to experience the world in a mystical way.

    What is Mysticism?

Mysticism has been defined a number of ways. Is it the same thing as spirituality or religion? Many people have a negative connotation of the word thinking of as trickery or charlatanism or magic and that’s a bummer. There’s a lot of misinformation related to mysticism so let’s visit the Wikipedia definition.

Mysticism is popularly known as becoming one with God or the Absolute, but may refer to any kind of ecstasy or altered state of consciousness which is given a religious or spiritual meaning. It may also refer to the attainment of insight in ultimate or hidden truths, and to human transformation supported by various practices and experiences.

Mysticism often points back to knowledge that we once had and maybe have lost. The key that we’re going to point in today is the human transformation.
