  • Every day you are faced with a choice. As you experience different emotions, what will you do with them? How will you respond to them? You name them, but now what?

Whether we realize it or not, we are all doing something with our feelings - addressing them and growing through them, or ignoring them and letting them control us. But what if our emotions draw us closer to God and lead us to connection with others?

What will you choose? Listen in as Candace and Jennie talk about how they choose daily to embrace + grow in their emotions, why you cannot be a great parent, spouse, student, or Christian while remaining emotionally unhealthy, and ways Jesus has transformed their lives as they have walked with Him.

  • There is a connection between your emotional health and your body. Just think about what you feel physically when you experience different emotions:

When you feel joy, where in your body do you feel it? When you feel sadness, how do you express it physically? When you feel fear or worry, how does your body respond?

Our bodies feel our emotions, they are connected. And often the feelings we are struggling with are exacerbated by how we are treating (or mistreating) our bodies.

In this episode, Candace and Jennie are talking about emotions + our body. They discuss how they have seen their physical health positivity impact their emotional health, and vice versa. They also share healthy physical habits that have helped them when they are feeling certain emotions (like sad or stressed).

What are ways you keep your body healthy so that it can support your emotional health well? Head over to Instagram to tell us! @candacecameronburepodcast

  • What is your favorite memory from your childhood? What makes those memories good memories?

In this episode, Candace and Jennie are focusing on emotions and parenting. The truth is that we all need to know that we are seen, soothed, and safe in our emotions – especially kids. We aren’t alone in our emotions, and neither are our children. We get to be there for them emotionally, so does Jesus. Feelings don’t heal when we ignore them; they heal when we are wrapped up by the people we love in the middle of them.

Listen in as Candace and Jennie talk about their personal experiences parenting young children + adult children, being fully present to the emotions of your children (no matter their age), and what they have learned from struggling to “fix” things for their kids.

Parenting isn’t a one-size fits all – and emotions aren’t the same for every child. How do we foster emotional health in our children? Tune in to hear more!

  • Two words can push emotions to a deeper place … “I feel.” Do you have community that you can safely share your emotions with? That you can vulnerably say … “I feel” without fear or shame?

Emotions are best healed in community – to be truly seen, soothed, safe, and not alone in pain heals you in ways you cannot believe unless you feel it. Candace and Jennie sit down to talk about friendship + how God calls us to “bear one another’s burdens.” If you are looking for encouragement around:

    What makes friendships stick long-term

How to show up well for friends when they need you most

Ways you can “go there” emotionally with community

Healing friendships that have caused emotional wounds

Listen in as they reflect on their own marriages, talk about practical things they do to stay connected to their husbands emotionally, how they resolve conflict, and the deep value intentional counseling has had on them.

  • What are some things in your day to day life that can pull you toward fear or worry? There are so many reasons or moments in throughout the day that can open the door to those emotions.

“Of course you feel that way” is comforting and validating to every emotion we experience, including fear and worry. We all experience fear and with the world around us, the things we see or read or experience, it is no wonder we feel fearful. But if God is with us (even in our fear), we can experience peace, right?

In your fear, there are few questions that can help shift you towards peace, like:

What is my perspective of God?

Do I see God disappointed in my fear or comforting me?

Where am I looking for peace?

When God tells us not to be afraid, it’s because He wants to remind us that we need Him and that He is there for us. He does not scold us in our fear; He comforts us with truth.

In this conversation, Candace and Jennie talk about fear – moments in their lives when they walked through fear and worry, how media and social media attribute to our fear, and how fear shifts to peace when your perspective of God changes. • Can you remember the first time you really felt a deep sense of sadness? Looking back on your younger self, what would you say to them now?

Sadness isn’t an emotion we always care to admit out loud or bring people into. But the truth is the Bible is full of characters dealing with dark and heavy circumstances; we see all kinds of people – including Jesus – feeling AND expressing their fear, loneliness, and anxiety, while they faithfully pursued God’s heart.

In this vulnerable conversation, Candace and Jennie share their earliest memories related to sadness, how depression has impacted their lives, and the pressures we all face to smile through the low times - and just be happy.

If you are struggling with depression, or you know someone who is, listen in with grace + compassion. You are not alone, this is for you.

  • When we think of anger, we don’t often think of it as a God-given emotion … but it is. There’s nothing in scripture that says “Don’t get angry.” Instead, we are encouraged to be slow to anger.

But what does it mean to be slow to anger?

In this week’s conversation, Candace and Jennie are digging into anger: what it is, why it is better to be honest about it rather than hide it, strategies that have helped them slow down in their anger, and ways anger can be destructive.Remember, we are to be “slow to anger” but also not to sin in our anger. • Are you an emotional person? Feelings are meant to be felt. Emotions are healthy + vulnerability is powerful! They are God-given, so they are GOOD. But seeing all emotions are good can be challenging, especially feelings like sadness or anger. Do you see your emotions as good or bad?

In the first episode of this season, Candace + Jennie are laying the foundation for emotional health. They talk about how emotions connect us to God and others, why feeling hard or deep emotions points back to something that may be unaddressed beneath the surface, and the 3 C’s of emotional response: Control, Cope, Conceal.

As you listen in, ask yourself: what are the emotions I have felt this week? The first step to emotional health is being able to name them. Take some time to name your emotions today!
