One question I get asked all the time is “Do you allow families into your personal brand photoshoots?”
So I thought I would record a podcast episode to answer this question.
If you are from the family portrait market you might be trying to move out of it and wanting to get away from kids, teens and partners
But perhaps there is a perfect way to take advantage of your current audience and transition slowly into personal branding.
I decided to unpack a few things to think about when it comes to incorporating families into your personal brand shoots.
In this episode, I share :

This year is very much about collaborating with others for me, as I think you will know if you have been tuning in
And so this week I am so excited as I was lucky enough to chat with the really talented Mark Rossetto.
Now if you have not heard of Mark before, he is an international award-winning double master photographer (AIPP), Master Photographer with WPPI, a highly sought-after public speaker and a qualified Life and Photography Business Coach
Mark now dedicates his time to teaching photographers the skills needed to build successful businesses through the Professional Photography Business Network.
I love his energy and I love his shared enthusiasm for our industry. We talked history, and the future of photography and bringing our community - particularly here in Australia - together.

Sorry guys… I am going to say this from this onset...
This one is for the lady photogs today.
Don’t mean to exclude the boys ever (but I am today)
I just really wanted to speak to my girls out there today.
Cause let’s face it, lady photog business owners are often juggling lots of plates.
Now I am not discounting men and their contribution in any way. In fact my dad was a photographer who more than pulled his weight in the home.
However I have observed that many of my best friends & clients (who are all business owners from all different walks of life) do have to balance just a few more tasks when kids and household duties are concerned.
So I wanted to record an episode to speak to the lady photogs who do business with other ladies in business..
Cause I really think that what we are all looking for is ease and simplicity.
So if you are feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, tired, like you are not necessarily doing everything (or anything) as well as you’d like to be doing.
    This episode is for you!

Once upon a time, I felt so overwhelmed in my business that I hired a business coach, cause I couldn’t see which way was up.
They walked me through an exercise to work out what my perfect day would look like.
I know this may seem like a silly exercise to many, but I was working so hard for other people's outcomes I lost sight of what I wanted for me on a day to day basis.
    This was 7 years ago.
And as I was recording todays episode of the podcast, I realised that “this day” - a Monday I experienced recently - was it!
Now this “Monday” was not by any means one of the most remarkable days in terms of business, revenue or marketing.
But it is the kind of day I have been building my business towards for years.
And this is also what I like to help others to do, to build their business to serve them THEIR perfect day
(in fact I have virtually a whole module inside of my course devoted to this outcome)
So if you are feeling in need of inspiration about how the simplicity of one single day can bring another so much joy
Then this episode is for you my friend.

If you are a dinosaur photog like me (OK so I am still only in my mid 40's but I've definitely been around for a while now) Or even if your business is a spring chicken

I think you might find this podcast a bit of an eye opener

Or confirmation of the way you might be operating but maybe have not paid attention.

I am going to take you on a short journey to come to a practical marketing tip that I think maybe helpful to you.

So stick with this one, it may feel a little indulgent, but trust me as with everything I do...

There is method to my madness.

I’m thrilled to announce: I’m back! And I’ve returned with with gusto
Took a little break from the podcast to recharge after an intense month filled with travel and overseas visitors.
But its been long enough and my hiatus gave me time to ponder and reflect deeply on your needs (as well as my own!)
After spending a couple of cool weeks teaching, shooting and mentoring in the USA, I I gleaned invaluable insights.
Cause I think if you operate independently (cause lets face it the majority of domestic photographers do)
And you FEEL like you are on your own with what you are feeling (cause maybe the people around don't really understand what you are going through)
Then it can be a lonely kind of business (even if you are meeting and capturing LOTs of different people and places)
So in this episode, I wanted to share what my key takeaways were from meeting 100’s of photographers - all at different stages - from across the world.
In this episode, I share :
Three recurring themes that resonated deeply with meWhat I intend to do to help you in the futureKey areas of focus for both 2024 and 2025

  • Are you feeling a little underwhelmed with your progress in your business?
Sometimes you can feel like you are working so freaking hard, and seemingly getting no where.
Or other things in life can keep bumping into you and you can get derailed from what you think your goals are.
Happens to all of us hey?
I recorded this episode I am about to share with you last week before I jumped on a plane to the USA.
This was just a last minute record of thoughts, so please excuse me if I am a bit bumbly.
I wanted to share with you how chasing dreams, particularly in the last 5 years, has taken all of us on a bit of a roundabout… and I am no different.
As much as the education side of what I do has grown, it definitely has taken a way different path than I thought.
But I am making it to present at WPPI in just a matter of days, a dream I have had for quite some time now.
And so in sharing this story I hope that it might inspire you (if you need it) to stay the course with your business dreams too!

As this podcast audience has grown, I am getting to hear from more and more of you listeners that you have found yourself feeling lonely in business at times.

But even more so in the past couple of years.

And despite me working LOTS with clients and students, so did I!

This episode was sparked by a conversation with my daughter where she shared with me a little bit of TikTok Wisdom.

And as I looked back over my own recent behaviors I was able to connect the dots to some of the loneliness traps I had accidentally stayed inside of post-pandemic.

This episode is for you if you need a little motivation to step out of your own little (anti-social) comfort zone and start connecting a little more and in a meaningful way.

This is not about handing out your business cards, or talking shop, but more about finding connections that feed your soul in ways that perhaps your regular friendships or family don’t right now.

Have you been thinking about having your own personal brand photoshoot?

But been sitting on the fence longer than perhaps you’d like to admit?

You know you need the images, but life (and the never ending to-do list) keeps getting in the way

We have all been there (well I definitely have at many times in my business)
But rather than hear it from me, I wanted to invite a fellow photographer, and recent photography client of mine along to share her experience.

Lisette B has been a family photographer for over a decade and recently started moving into personal branding.
However marketing had become a bit of a stuck point for Lisette ( as it does for so many)

And so she decided to boost her confidence in shooting, expand her folio and get her own photoshoot as well!

    Major marketing boost :)
I invited Lisette on to share her experience - and I know she will truly inspire you, as she shares and articulates so beautifully what so many photographers feel, in so many areas of business.

I wanted to bring Lisette on to talk about her experience of having her own Personal Brand Session.

But we unpacked so much more... This podcast will surely let you know you are not alone.

  • Learn in Behind the Business

Do you find yourself obsessing over your social media (or other photographers??!!)
Do you spend lots of energy going over your packages and rethinking your prices?
Well let me ask you, do you spend as much time examining how you are actually serving your clients needs when they are in a sales conversation with you?
If the answer is no, then this episode is for you my friend!
I have found myself in numerous conversations with people over the last few weeks, where the frustration around the lack of service people are experience is very real.
Granted this is not a sexy topic, but I do think that it is one that you need to be looking into if you want to have a business long term 👍
