  • Today I am excited to share my amazing conversation with Recipe Club’s, Kelsey Nixon. Recipe Club is a dinner system to help you organize meal planning to take the decision fatigue out of the kitchen.

We chatted about food with kids, tips for navigating the back-to-school season, and the benefits of moving dinner earlier in the evening. She shared her kitchen “closet” staples that are essential to becoming a better cook.

Kelsey walked us through the tenets of Recipe Club and how it can help lessen your weekday dinner stress. I LOVE her picky eater feature where each recipe shows a kid’s plate option without having to do any extra work. Recipe Club shopping lists also integrate with Insta Cart so you don’t have to shop and just click one button for all ingredients to add to your cart!

  • Today’s episode is about keeping it stylish while staying cool, especially in the summer heat!

Lauren & I discuss our tips for styling outfits during the heat. We love using accessories to style our summer outfits rather than adding layers like in the cooler months.

We discuss summer-style staples, why accessories are even more important in the summer, playing with color, and how to lean into the details of your outfit to elevate your entire look.

  • In today’s episode, I enjoyed hearing from past podcast guests and their updates on how their wardrobe has changed since being on the podcast. Want to listen to their episodes before hearing their updates? Give episodes 5 through 8 and episode 15 a listen!

Our first update is from Connie from episode 5, who shared she’s embraced trusting herself, did a major closet cleanout, and is feeling better overall about her closet since being on the show.

Donna from episode 6 shared she learned to embrace that she loves options and getting rid of the pieces she didn’t love freed up her mind and energy.

Episode 7’s guest Laina updated us on how she’s slowed down her shopping, focusing on heck yes items, and learning to style her favorite statement pieces.

Shannon, episode 8’s guest, shared she has embraced Alison’s recommendation to dress for her body & to show off her new body after weight loss. She has updated her philosophy to be “try it on, you’ll never know” rather than eliminating options before trying.

From episode 15, Robin updated us that she did another closet cleanout, is now focusing on shopping in-store rather than online, and is prioritizing her heck yes pieces.

I hope you had as much fun as I did hearing these updates from our previous guests!

We discussed reaching a point of closet contentment and when to buy new pieces or lean into a trend.

I loved seeing the themes of experimenting with style that Jannie had as a teenager that she has continued on to this day in her wardrobe.

Lauren & I had a blast during our coffee chat when we talked about trend cycles and whether or not past trends are obsolete or here to stay.

  • Today I had an amazing conversation with Robin who is experiencing transitions in all parts of her life from work, to becoming an empty nester to adapting to body changes with age. We had a great discussion about dressing for who you are now and what steps to take to get there.

We also discuss the impact of decision fatigue and that an overpacked closet can cause more problems than it solves. We talk about building a closet of solid basics so that you have a foundation to pair with fun signature pieces.

I recommended that Robin lean into embracing a signature style and owning her uniqueness & authenticity.

  • In today’s episode, I chat with Lauren about my favorite thing as a stylist: the psychology behind the clothes. I asked my Instagram community about the style messages they heard throughout their lives and I work to debunk these style myths.

I was not surprised that the most common style messages people have heard are about money & feeling guilty spending money on clothes. I share that I don’t believe in the concept of an item being “age-appropriate.” I was excited to learn all about the history of the myth of not wearing white after Labor Day.

I also talk about a positive style message - the importance of investing in closet staples as the foundation of your wardrobe. I always recommend investing in the best quality piece you can afford and don’t forget expensive doesn’t equal quality!

Aubrey is 25 years old and runs an online jewelry company, Alison and Aubrey, that we started together in 2017. Ava is a 19-year-old sophomore in college. This also marks the show’s first Gen Z guests!

We discuss how wearing school uniforms impacted their style, the style messages they heard growing up, memories of favorite & embarrassing outfits, and so much more.

  • Today I’m talking with our show’s first petite guest, Dina, a wife & mom who is starting her empty-nester years and struggles to build a closet that fits her 5’ 1” petite frame.

We chatted about building a cohesive closet that fits a widely varied lifestyle that includes occasional working in an office, daily life, working out, & special events. We celebrated that Dina has fully embraced our philosophy that the “selfie never lies” in determining if an outfit works. I recommended not only focusing on what isn’t working but also looking at selfies to see what you do love that you can try to recreate again.

I loved today’s coffee chat where Lauren & I discussed one of my favorite things to take care of at home: “tolerations.” The things that bother you every day and only take 5-10 minutes to fix.

  • Today, I'm thrilled to share my conversation with Shannon, whose personal style journey is as compelling as it is inspiring.

Shannon's story is one of transformation and self-discovery. She delves into her challenges with showcasing her curves and finding age-appropriate styles that still speak to her personality. Her reflections on style mentors and the rules about style and appearance that influenced her growing up add a poignant touch to her journey.

What makes Shannon's story particularly relatable is her methodology for shopping and how she addresses the gaps in her wardrobe. This approach is not just about buying new clothes but about making strategic choices that enhance her existing collection.

As we explore Shannon's journey, we also touch on the power of embracing one's true self through fashion. Her story is a testament to how style is not just about the clothes we wear, but how we wear them and the confidence they bring us.

  • Today, I’m excited for you to hear my conversation with Laina, a mother and librarian who struggles with pairing clothes and not getting enough wear out of certain items in her closet.

This conversation was such a fun exploration, not just of the closet Laina has today, but of the journey she took to build this closet. I was particularly moved by Laina’s reflections on her style influences. Her stories about her fashionable grandmother and her dad’s unabashedly bold style really highlight how our family can shape our fashion sensibilities. Laina's journey from adhering to childhood fashion rules to granting herself the freedom to experiment is both relatable and inspiring.

Together, we unpack several layers of the style puzzle: mastering color seasons, the quest for the perfect pants, and how to make unique pieces work harder for you. Laina’s emphasis on the importance of regular closet cleanouts and the excitement that comes with seasonal closet swaps was a reminder of the joys of rediscovering what we already own.
