  • Karen Conti was the only woman on John Wayne Gacy’s legal team during his appeal process to have his death sentence commuted to life in prison. Over the course of the last 7 months of his life, Karen spent some 50 hours in person with Gacy and countless on the phone.   • It’s True Crime Week on TIJ, and starting us off, one of the biggest cases of the last year – the Gilgo Beach serial killings! These were a series of murders of mostly sex workers spanning from the early 1990s to 2011. On July 13, 2023, police arrested Rex Heuermann outside his office in Manhattan (New York City), and have since charged him with 6 of the killings. Filmmaker Josh Zeman joins to share details of the case, which he documented in the 2016 4-hour docuseries, The Killing Season. Josh talks about the circumstances that led to the discovery of multiple bodies and human remains, how they were identified, the way the police ultimately found and arrested suspect Rex Heuermann, and why it took law enforcement so long to find him! He talks about the technology that brought Rex down, and the voicemail that Josh received 7 years ago that was likely from Rex himself!

  • Former senior intelligence official and special agent, Luis “Lue” Elizondo, was recruited into the US government’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, a $22 million program sponsored by then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to study UFOs. Lue resigned in 2017 in protest of excessive government secrecy regarding UFOs. But it’s thanks to Lue that the government in recent years has declassified and made public a lot of information regarding UFO encounters and sightings.   • In 2004, the FBI was tipped off to a gruesome pattern of unsolved murders along American highways, and since then, at least 850 homicides have been linked to a new breed of serial killer: long-haul truck drivers!
