David Baddiel and his mate Tim Hincks talk all things David Bowie. They spin out from there to anything and everything that’s funny, quizzical, and vaguely related to Bowie, or music, or their own mid-life crises. It’s a bit niche: Absolute Beginners won’t get it. You see? The ones who got that reference are smiling smugly. And others are thinking: I shan’t listen to that then.

Baffled by modern art and architecture? You’re not alone! This collection gives new insight into today’s shifting kaleidoscope of visual culture by placing it in the context of the developments of the 19th and 20th century. In the mid 19th century there was a growing realisation that everything had changed. Industry was booming, and the speed of life increasing. Artists, thinkers and architects strove to find new ways of encapsulating this new world … and modernism was born. The collection describes how throughout the twentieth century different media and artforms were added to the canon, and the sophisticated social structure of the Art-world developed.

James Joyce was born in1882 and during the course of his life became one of the most influential Irish poets and novelists of his age. This discussion takes place in Mulligan’s pub, a venue featured in Joyce’s short story ‘Counterparts’ and throughout the conversation we explore Dublin’s character as experienced through Joyce’s writing and how everything he experienced from the urban landscape, to the statues contributed to the work he produced.
