On this week's interview we hear from the wonderful Lisa Krause. Lisa is a parent and grandparent with years of experience and expertise parenting. She has worked as a parenting educator and a teacher of parenting science. On this episode Madeleine and Lisa have a discussion on the topic of helicopter parenting. Lisa uses the terms “Rescuing your children” rather then helping and guiding them. In order for our children to reach adulthood with all the skills they require they need to be taught and nurtured but also left alone to figure things out. Lisa brings up important questions such as; how early should they start doing chores? When is it okay to let your child take risks that could hurt them? Does your child need assistance or just a listening ear? These questions and more are the backbone of the important conversation that has taken place.

Heather has been working with parents and parenting professionals for 15 years and offers a unique perspective all the way from Carolina in the USA. In their conversation Madeleine and Heather discuss how hard it is for parents to find their own solutions when issues come up with their children rather then looking for help from professionals. The irony of this being a parenting podcast is not missed. Parents have intuitive sense of what their children need, and Heather provides suggestions for how parents can look inwards to find information in difficult situations.

Bailey runs the Instagram adventure parenting page Spirit and Guts (link below). She and Madeleine have a rich and important discussion on emotional intelligence. Helping our children to manage their emotions when they’re young can really set them up for the future. Bailey’s graduate school experience gives her an excellent base of knowledge but is also willing to admit that the process of teaching emotional intelligence to children is difficult.
