In this episode of the Photo Business Help podcast, I talk with Shaily Hakimian about social media and how to leverage it for your photography business!
About Shaily:
Shaily started doing social media for her hobby community in high school… ON MYSPACE. She didn't realize what she did was doing social media until after college when she saw a question on a job application asking if she had ever managed an online community, and she realized there was something there.
She graduated from Indiana University with a degree and certification in elementary education K-6, and she now uses those mad teaching skills to lead workshops, work with business owners 1-on-1 training them on social media, and has coached 200+ B2B consultants on how to use LinkedIn to grow their business. She guides business on how to stay top of mind with their community and referral network using social media. I hold them accountable and boost their confidence in themselves, what they have to offer, and their own social media abilities. She loves live streaming, event social media, live Tweeting, and comment engagement.

Ever wondered what it feels like to strip back the layers of expectation and create something deeply authentic? Join me on a transformative exploration into the heart of genuine artistry, where we navigate the intricacies of podcasting, music, and self-expression.
My journey has taken me from the analytical to the organic, culminating in the birth of the Corporate Oracle deck, a project that makes real my quest for sincerity in creativity. As we unravel the reasons behind our guarded natures during performances, we contemplate the impact of such barriers on the rawness of our dialogues.
It can be said that an artist's path is never linear, and this episode is a testament to that. I speak candidly about the metamorphosis from pain to purpose, drawing from the profound grief of losing my mother to the unbridled liberty of crafting art solely for art's sake.
We look to the inspiring philosophies of Rick Rubin and the organic rise of an Instagram artist, reminding us that the truest form of creation resonates universally. Moreover, we discuss the delicate dance between structure and spontaneity in the creative process, and I share my insights on producing music that resonates with the soul's rhythm.
Our hearts connect through an enlightening chat with the talent behind @freedmit, where we anticipate their upcoming album and the magic it promises to weave. This episode is a tribute to the joy of artistic discovery and the power of shared narratives.
Through these conversations, we not only uncover the essence of what it means to create from an authentic place, but also celebrate the bonds formed when we let our true selves shine through in our work.

Shareable Quotes"I think the most popular episodes are generally the ones where I'm just blabbing away a little bit and not really being as polished. And I just—I don't know—I think that we're very conditioned to wanting to be received well and not have the conflict.""It's so funny because the whole intention was for me to sound really professional, sound very polished, but as I get older and as I tap more into my most authentic creations, especially with music too, I find myself creating the most wonderful art when I am not in my head and I'm just fully relaxed and with myself.""I think what makes a great leader, artist, creative, is someone who can do both—allow the creative process to happen without the pressure of time, and then, once it's there, to have the discipline to shape and execute it. There's an intrinsic discipline to get the work out because now it feels like it's made for more than just me, and I know that."Connect with BriWebsite - https://www.bridimit.com

Ever felt like your photographs speak a thousand words but your written content barely whispers? That's where the alchemy of copywriting transforms your business narrative, and we've got a marketing strategist and copywriter extraordinaire to show us how. Today's guest, Tahnée Sanders, reveals why an outsider's perspective on your story can be the golden ticket to resonating with clients - and warns against the common trap of overestimating what clients know about your services.
Isn't it frustrating when clients overlook the details? We tackle this head-on, discussing strategies to communicate with your audience through platforms like Instagram - where visuals may captivate, but clear instructions will convert. From breaking down your creative process to implementing post-service FAQs, we dissect ways to guide clients and avoid misunderstandings. It's all about making every piece of communication count, setting expectations right from the get-go, and yeah, making sure they actually read those instructions!
Finally, we breathe through the idea of pacing in business - taking on one task at a time to keep from drowning in the deep end. You'll find the encouragement to update that website or tweak your marketing plan without the overwhelm. You'll walk away from this episode feeling empowered and equipped to manage your photo business confidently.
Key Takeaways(05:04) The Importance of Effective Copywriting
(08:48) The Value of Photography Investments
(15:25) Clear Communication in Teaching and Marketing
(21:23) Utilizing Email Lists for Photographers
(25:21) The Value of Marketing Emails
Shareable Quotes"Our businesses are only enjoyable and satisfying if we're compensated for all of this energy and passion that we're putting into our businesses. When we can communicate our value, we're able to charge what we're worth and thrive.""Repetition is your friend. We as business owners, we quit the message when we get tired of it. But that's usually the point that our audience is just starting to cotton on to what our message is.""Don't feel overwhelmed by everything you can't do, feel empowered to do everything you can. Your pricing should excite you, and if it doesn't, all roads lead to marketing. There's always a way to get your marketing right to increase the perception of your value."Connect with TahnéeTahnée Sanders is a former journalist-turned-marketing strategist who leads female-led businesses to effective marketing strategy. Have you ever considered your business's narrative? Kris Jones joins me to unravel the captivating art of storytelling in marketing. Together, we dissect the Storybrand Framework, where your clients become the heroes and you, the trusted guide. This conversation is a treasure trove for anyone looking to not just reach but resonate with their audience.
Our website: it's the one place that either pulls clients in or pushes them away. In this episode, we lay out how to empathize with potential clients right from the homepage, guiding them to envision their success with your services. No more stumbling over complicated jargon; we're sharing the 'baby boomer test' and other practical tips to make your message clear and your services irresistible.
Wrapping up, we discuss the underrated power of simplicity. I pose the question, "How can I make this easier?" and explore how it can transform the way we approach challenges in business and beyond. For photographers and entrepreneurs alike, this episode offers a fresh perspective on streamlining your strategies and cutting through the noise. So tune in and let's simplify your path to success together.
Key Takeaways(00:00) The Power of Copy
(15:45) Website Success Through Resonance Creation
(24:06) Effective Communication and Website Copy Simplified
(30:15) The Power of Simplifying for Success
Shareable Quotes"So really it comes down to every story, every movie you've ever watched, any story you've ever heard somebody tell. If it's a good story, if it's a compelling story, it always begins with a hero who has a problem that they can't solve, and that hero then eventually meets a guide that has a solution and through that relationship the hero finds success. And that is the mystery behind every story you've ever heard."
"We forget what it's like to not know what we know, and so we end up speaking to other people or potential clients as if they get it and with language that goes over their head. That's called the curse of knowledge, and it's really common for anyone who's an expert in their field."
"You just kind of empathize like, hey, I get this, this is hard. This is a big decision. There's a lot riding on this decision and it feels like a lot. The last thing you want is more stress on your big day. So through that empathy and through authority you know people just want to know, that you know what you're doing."

You'll feel like you're repeating yourself because you're gonna be talking about the same thing you just blogged about all week long or maybe for the next two weeks, and that's gonna seem redundant to you, but for most people they're hit with so much information that it takes them a few times hearing your message before they go. Shareable Quotes"So gross revenue is kind of irrelevant to me, like, in fact, it drives me nuts when people are always like educators, especially talking about like six-figure photographers, and it's like, well, what does that mean? Like, they could have only profited 40,000 a year and yet be six figures. So I'm always looking at my profit." "I spent a pretty hefty amount of time three to four months, like doing very targeted portfolio building sessions for free... It was valuable in so many ways. Like it was valuable because it gave me the confidence to make sure that I could walk into a session and actually deliver what somebody was expecting.""Biggest success was that I hired an editor and she has been like the best thing that ever happened to my business... I've been with her since last fall and she didn't cull for probably the first six or eight months, so she really had an idea of like what I was picking, and now I don't even feel like I need to go back and double check... she's nailed my editing style and this made me so much happier."Connect with Kate SimpsonWebsite - https://katesimpsonphoto.com/

Ever thought about starting your own photography venture? Pause the worry and tune into this illuminating conversation with a former photographer turned lawyer, Kiffanie Stahle, as we peel back the layers on running a photography business. We kickstart with an intriguing narrative about living in an RV, which serves as a testament to the power of networking and community building. We dive into local events, where you can hone your photography skills, find fresh marketing strategies and pick up priceless recommendations for accountants and attorneys.
In the second half, we delve into the legal aspects that photographers often overlook. Kiffanie deciphers legal jargon and breaks down the essentials, pushing aside the detritus of unnecessary LLCs and trademark registrations that many photographers fall prey to. We also shed light on the importance of having a business framework and getting the right permits and licenses. The conversation wraps with the importance of contracts, not just as a business necessity, but as a gift to clients, ensuring a win-win for both parties. We hope this episode leaves you enlightened, empowered, and ready to tackle the business side of photography with a renewed vigor and a clear roadmap.

Shareable Quotes"Most of the lists that you see out there are all the legal projects you need to do as a photographer. They're written from an attorney's perspective to get you to pay them fees, or they're written assuming you have a large chunk of money to spend upfront, and most photographers most creatives in general are bootstrapping their businesses.""A sole proprietorship and partnership are basically the same thing. Just sole proprietorship is you're doing it alone, and partnership you're doing it with one or more partners business friends, collaborators and those you just automatically become as soon as you start offering products or services.""Contracts get a bad rap. Contracts often are seen as something we're like lording over our clients or we're only having them to make sure we get paid or that we don't get screwed over. But I want you to flip your mindset around contracts. It's a gift you're giving your clients because you're professional and they've seen the output that you've done previously and they want that same output."Connect with GUESTWebsite - https://stahlelaw.com/
