The MHV Podcast talks to Kuo-Yi Lim, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Monk's Hill Ventures. In the early 2000’s, Kuo-Yi was an early employee of Encentuate, an identity and access management software startup (acquired by IBM) and Reputation Technologies, a supplier relationship management software startup (acquired by Security Sources). In 2008, he co-Founded SportsHook, a social networking and event management SaaS startup for the sports community.
Prior to Monk’s Hill Ventures, Kuo-Yi was CEO of Infocomm Investments, a $200M venture fund based in Singapore investing in technology startups globally. At Infocomm Investments, Kuo-Yi led investments in Twilio (NYSE:TWLO), Quid, Gengo and other leading startups. Kuo-Yi serves as a board member on several Singapore government statutory boards, including the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Health Promotion Board (HPB), and the Intellectual Property Office (IPOS).
Kuo-Yi graduated from MIT with the bachelor, master's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering. His doctoral thesis is in the area of nanophotonics, specifically in the design, fabrication and characterization of photonic crystal devices. He started his career as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in Boston, MA.

JJ Chai is the co-founder and CEO of Rainforest, Asia’s leading e-commerce brand aggregator. Rainforest acquires consumer ecommerce brands, providing entrepreneurs a healthy exit, and continues to grow the brands to their full potential.
Prior to founding Rainforest, JJ advised startups founders in the scale-up stage, as xto10x’s SE-Asia’s MD. He previously worked with the founders at Carousell to scale up from a pre-revenue startup to become SE-Asia’s largest online classifieds platform. At Carousell he led up various portfolios across international expansion, revenue, growth and strategy.
Before joining Carousell, JJ was the SE-Asia Managing Director for Airbnb. JJ joined as the first Airbnb employee in Southeast Asia and helped chart Airbnb’s rapid growth in Asia. JJ was also a former junior partner at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

He is an experienced professional with a demonstrated history of working in the data management, analytics-driven strategy and decision management space, and highly skilled in Risk Management, Digital Lending, Customer Relationship Management, Optimization Strategies, Machine Learning and Predictive Modeling.
Anton has 20+ years of working at a global bank and consulting for various financial service players, in addition to speaking at risk management and data analytics forums.

Justin is a Partner at Monk’s Hill Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in early-stage tech companies, primarily Series A, in Southeast Asia. He has over two decades of experience in Silicon Valley and in Asia as a founder, entrepreneur, and engineer of early-stage tech startups and global tech companies. Based in Vietnam, he has strong expertise in building world-class teams, fundraising, and operations.
In his career so far, he has helped his startups grow from zero revenue to more than US$50M in revenue before its exits. He has also built and led world-class engineering teams, recruiting from the likes of Google, Alibaba and eBay. He has helped raise over US$80 million across 10 rounds of financing for three start-ups in Silicon Valley, Shanghai and Vietnam.
Prior to MHV, he founded one of Asia’s leading game supplier Aspect Gaming, which raised more than US$18 million in funding. Before that, Justin was the China CEO of StarCite, which he helped transform from a dotcom consumer play into a thriving enterprise SaaS company, growing from zero to more than $50 million in revenue.
In his early career, Justin led a team of engineers at Silicon Gaming and served as the founding software engineer of Maximum Information, one of the earliest Internet acquisitions in that era. Justin studied engineering at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. He is also a proud SEA turtle and foodie.

Peng is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Monk’s Hill Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in early-stage tech companies, primarily Series A, in Southeast Asia. Peng is an industry veteran with over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, founder, and investor in Silicon Valley and in Asia. He is based in Indonesia and is a board member of Glints, ELSA, Finaxar, and Intelligent Video Solutions.
Prior to Monk’s Hill Ventures, he was a Venture Partner at GSR Ventures in China. The firm is known for its successful investments in companies like Didi Chuxing and Qunar. As an entrepreneur, he co-founded a series of successful companies including Electric Classifieds (today known as Match.com), Interwoven and Encentuate, which combined today generate over USD$1 billion in revenues annually.
Peng is currently the Chairman of SolveEducation! and serves as a board member of the International Advisory Board for the University of Texas at Austin and SEA Founders.
Peng earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois.

Susli is a Venture Partner at Monk's Hill Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in early-stage tech companies, primarily Series A, in Southeast Asia. She is based in Indonesia and is responsible for sourcing, analyzing and executing deals, and working closely with portfolio companies.
Susli is also the Co-Founder of ErudiFi, a tech-enabled education financing company in Southeast Asia. Susli is a seasoned finance professional, having built a career at the cross-section of finance, development, and technology with global experience spanning North America, Australia, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Born and raised in Indonesia, she has spent the last decade advising, investing, and operating as a founder primarily in Indonesia.
She began her career in strategy consulting at Oliver Wyman in the financial services practice, and subsequently pioneered the role of Asia-Pacific Chief of Staff. Her investment experience is focused on Indonesia and includes stints at LeapFrog Investments, Quvat Capital, and YCAB Ventures. Susli also advises on development finance projects for the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank Group.
Susli received her BA in Economics and Chinese from Yale, MBA from Wharton, and MA in International Development from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
