In Loving Memory of Corey (6/16/1987 - 8/24/2024): We couldn’t have done Live Breathe Film without you for all these years, and your shoes will be impossible to fill. Thank you for being our wildcard.

Feature Presentation: Fall Box Office Draft - Unlike this time last year, Hollywood has a robust slate of films to offer audiences. Now which are going to truly break out? Will Disney continue their return to dominance with Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King? Or will the unconventional musical of the season, Joker: Folie à Deux, crash the party?
End Credits: Donations can be made in Corey’s name to WeGotNextSports.org. Thank you.
Post-Credits: Summer Essentially Ended With Alien: Romulus - Corey had the last big film of the summer movie season as we came as close as possible to unofficially wrapping up our Summer Box Office Pool. -

Feature Presentation: D23 Film and Television Recap - Whether it’s Walt Disney Animation Studios, Avatar, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Disney Live Action, or Marvel Studios, originality is no longer part of Bob Iger’s agenda as his tenure as CEO carries on. All of his various acquisitions over the years and the work of other studios, creatives, animators, etc. are currently being used to prop up Mickey’s fortunes, while the company pivots to more and more sequels based on its various IP.

Post-Credits: Reynolds & Lively - The box office is no longer solely about Deadpool & Wolverine (or Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman). It’s now Reynolds and Blake Lively’s show as It Ends With Us blows up alongside Deadpool & Lady Deadpool at the box office, giving the husband and wife a one-two punch at the box office. -

Feature Presentation: Did Deadpool & Wolverine Live Up to Our Lofty Expectations? - Before we get into the future of The Multiverse Saga and more importantly the introduction of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, we have to talk all about the much anticipated arrival of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to the MCU as Deadpool & Wolverine, along with all of the very special guests they brought with them.

Post-Credits: Twisters Bring In Money Regardless of the Century - We’re far from 1996 but the stand-alone sequel to Twister defied tracking and made a big impact at movie theaters like so many other films have since the box office finally hit paydirt in early June. The box office is officially on a roll and the odds-on favorite to win the summer crown is just starting to slice and dice its way through the record books. -

Feature Presentation: 2024 Films and Television to Binge - Here are the films and TV shows from the first six months of the year that we each recommend to you. It includes obvious picks such as Dune: Part Two and The Bear, along with less discussed gems such as I Saw the TV Glow and Dark Matter.

Post-Credits: Animation Domination - Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 are currently making mincemeat of the competition as the summer box office continues its major rebound. -

Feature Presentation: Every Film That Has Held the Crown for the Largest Box Office Weekend Since Jaws - 29 films have held the crown since Jaws and we can guarantee some will surprise you. We have the usual suspects on this list such as a variety of adaptations from various mediums, along with plenty of sequels and prequels, but we also have one film weeks into its initial run, a rerelease, and the one completely original film that has seemingly been lost to time.

Post-Credits: Inside Out Has Broken the $100 Million Opening Weekend Losing Streak - As we noted in our last episode it’s been nearly 11 months since our last $100 million opening weekend (Barbie), and we were worried it would hold for over a year until Deadpool & Wolverine opens in late July. Well, Inside Out 2 blew past $100 million for not just its first weekend, but its second weekend as well! -

Feature Presentation: The Rich History of the 100 Million Dollar Box Office Weekend - What was once a breakthrough with Spider-Man in 2002 had become more than commonplace by the time Barbie was released in 2023. So why have we not seen one in the year since and how can Hollywood adapt to changing tastes and their previous overreliance on comic book adaptations?

Post-Credits: Weaker Opening Weekends are Leading to Longer Legs - With the exception of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, opening weekend box office numbers have been weak leading up to the return of the Bad Boys. But despite the box office disappointing regularly for film after film on opening weekend, each film for the most part has had strong legs…with one maddening exception. -

Feature Presentation: Let’s Get Snooty and Talk About Cannes - During our program we discuss the films we’re looking forward to that premiered at Cannes, including Palme d’Or winner, Anora. We also discuss what films, filmmakers, and studios were helped or hurt by showing of their perceived goods at the festival, and what our overall thoughts are regarding all the pomp and circumstance surrounding this particular film festival compared to others such as Venice, Telluride, TIFF, NYFF, Sundance, etc.

Post-Credits: Thank the Planet of the Apes - It has been a bleak month at the box office without the MCU to kick things off per usual. The Fall Guy and IF have underperformed and Furiosa is outright flopping. Here we discuss all of this, along with the few bright spots, particularly Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. -

Feature Presentation: Winter/Spring Box Office Recap - Dune: Part Two won the January-April period as predicted, but did its competitors such as Kung Fu Panda, Godzilla x Kong, and Ghostbusters do their part to keep the box office from crashing and burning overall?

Feature Presentation: 2024 Summer Box Office Draft - This is one of our more lively box office pools to predict with sure things such as Despicable Me 4, nostalgia plays that have potential to overperform like Twisters, and two complete wildcard westerns from Kevin Costner. Let’s pick what we believe will be the biggest hits at the box office during Summer 2024!

Post-Credits: A Weak End to a Strike Plagued Season - It was never going to be a massive season at the box office this Winter/Spring as the dual strikes of 2023 limited the output for 2024, but the way movie studios scheduled nearly every sure thing from the months of January through April strictly in March led to a very weak finish heading into the all important month of May. Can Zendaya finish out April strong in her first theatrical lead role before Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt officially kick off the 2024 Summer Movie Season? -
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Corey, Doug, and Murph...
Feature Presentation: Theatrical Rereleases in the Post-Strikes Era - If you haven’t noticed there have been more and more older films being put back in theaters as movie theaters deal with the impact of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It’s somewhat similar to the period of time when movie theaters attempted to reopen during the pandemic, and there just weren’t enough new films to play throughout the day in each auditorium. Here we talk about some of the films we’ve seen during this strike-impacted period, what films we hope to see on the big screen in the future, and what incentives studios/movie theaters can provide audiences to get us off our couches and into a movie theater to watch our favorite films again (or something we’ve never seen before) the way they were meant to be seen.

Post-Credits: As Spring Turns to Summer (At the Box Office) - It’s time we start preparing for our Summer Box Office Pool as the Winter/Spring Box Office Pool enters its final weeks. Can Murph or Corey come through with a wild comeback as they still have some R-Rated films such as Civil War, Abigail, and Challengers left to go? -

Feature Presentation: The Year of Barbenheimer Comes to a Close - In a year defined at the cinema by Barbenheimer, and an inevitable amount of Oscar wins coming Oppenheimer’s way this weekend, it’s time we each pick what we’d like to see win in every category for the films of 2023.

Post-Credits: Our Spoiler-Filled Thoughts on Dune: Part Two - As the world finally got to return to Arrakis, it’s time we discussed how well Denis Villeneuve followed up Part One of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic. We also touch upon its week at the box office and how it has changed the game for our Winter/Spring Box Office Pool. -

Feature Presentation: Our Favorite Films Of 2023 - In what was by far the best year for film since we started this podcast, we reveal each of our five favorite films of the year. It’s got something for everyone. International features, popcorn fare, epic dramas, innovative animation, comedies, and horror. These might not be the best films of the year, but they were all really damn good, and we’ll be watching them for years to come.

Post-Credits: The Calm Before the Spice Storm - With Dune: Part Two opening, it was time to take one last look at how the Winter/Spring box office and our box office pool picks for the season were performing, before the epic drama on Arrakis became all that mattered to moviegoers. -

Feature Presentation: Live Breathe Film’s Most Anticipated Films of 2024 - We tried something new this year breaking down our most anticipated films into three films based on our collective lists. There should be something for everyone to look forward to in 2024, including films as disparate as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and Joker: Folie à Deux.

Post-Credits: The Box Office Needs Dune: Part Two - Things have been bleak so far as three of the films drafted in our box office pool have struggled to make $1 million and a first round draft pick was a major letdown. However, there were two bright spots to kick off the year, while 2023 holiday holdovers and awards season films did their part to keep the box office somewhat afloat in 2024. -
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Corey, Doug, and Murph...
Feature Presentation: Live Breathe Films’s 2024 Winter/Spring Box Office Pool Draft - It’s time to predict the biggest films for the first four months 2024, which is looking to give audiences a severely depleted selection of films for audiences to choose from due to the dual strikes of 2023. While actors can promote their films normally unlike much of the second half of 2023, there are only so many potential blockbusters and films in general for these actors to promote. Do we think any original films will break out? Which established franchises do we believe are losing steam with audiences? We’ll share those thoughts and more as we make our picks.

Post-Credits: Beyoncé and the Dreaded Post-Thanksgiving Box Office - The Beyhive came out to keep the box office from a typically miserable weekend to kick off December. While it wasn’t the best of weekends, and Beyoncé’s film wasn’t eligible for our Fall Box Office Pool, things could have been far worse. -

Feature Presentation: Hollywood Greed or: How Studio Executives Learned They Needed to End the Strikes and Simultaneously Blow Up Their 2024 Theatrical Calendar - With 2023 coming to a close, it’s time we look forward at the films of 2024. Only due to the necessary WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there is not much to look at! Here is a look at just some of the fallout from Hollywood thinking they could make money while sidelining writers and actors throughout much of the past year.

Feature Presentation: 30 Years of Leo - As Leonardo DiCarprio and Martin Scorsese’s sixth collaboration, Killers of the Flower Moon, approaches, we wanted to look back at Leo’s performances and decide which are our individual and collective favorites.
Having been led by some of the greatest directors of all time, including Scorsese, Spielberg, Nolan, Cameron, Eastwood, Scott, Tarantino, Luhrmann, Boyle, Raimi, Allen, Iñárritu, Mendes, and Zwick, this was not an easy task.
