I am a lifelong theatre geek and proud of it. I have over 20 years of theatrical experience both on and off the stage, have sung in operas and musicals, acted in plays, conducted pit orchestras, directed choreography, hung lights from the rafters, designed and built sets when we barely had a budget for gaff tape, and micd and live mixed musicals. A lot of the knowledge I have gained over the years has been through mentorships with some of the most hard working and creative people in the business. I wanted to understand how all aspects of theater work, from costumes, to sets, to lights, to composition and performing. I’m still learning and there’s so much to learn and share. In the spirit of Stephen Sondheim I created this podcast to be a place of inspiration. His typed letters of encouragement to folks lifted so many up and brought so much joy and hope. It is my hope that this podcast, and it’s attached blog, will bring you encouragement on your theatrical journey. At whatever stage you are on, be it Broadway or a cafe-gym-atorium I want you to feel supported in your craft on stage and behind the scenes. So, welcome to Theatre Aesthetics™️! I'll share tips on the theater and the creative process, ways to organize your shows and auditions, interview artists and professionals, and present the occasional radio show. Be sure to subscribe to the podcast and I look forward to hearing from you. You can find me at [email protected], and on Instagram @theatreaestheticspodcast

This is a series of podcast from the Ruskin School of Art. The Ruskin, as it is known, is the Fine Art Department of the University of Oxford. In an intimate and dynamic environment, the school gathers together cutting edge contemporary artists and art theorists with some of the brightest and most creative art students. Fine Art is taught as a living element of contemporary culture with a broad range of historical and theoretical references. Comprising both a flourishing undergraduate programme and a growing Dphil programme (made up of both practice-led and theory-based doctoral students), the Ruskin embodies risk-taking, curiosity, and rigour grounded in a wide sense of the word ‘research’.

Why do we make pictures? What is the importance of a painting or drawing? Or more importantly how do we learn to make them?
These are questions that many prospective students may not ask themselves directly; yet they feel the impetus to pursue a program that answers them.
When we create or make images we are responding to our perception of the world. Creating a likeness of the world is one aspect of making images.
At Deakin, this is certainly one aspect of the Visual Arts program.
As students progress through the program they also may learn how to create something visually from an imagined world, or one that takes a symbolic form or representation.
Visual Arts at Deakin explores representations of the figure and settings by observation of their nature and as students progress through different levels of the course they become acquainted with the ideas of abstraction, pluralist strategies and conceptual development. -
