Hijo de Rabí Shmuel de Lubavitch (4to Rebe de Jabad) desde que era un niño (4/5 años de edad) manifestó su sabiduría y vocación de sincero apego a Di-s. En el año 5657 (1897) fundó en Lubavitch, la Ieshivá Tomjei Tmimím, principal centro educativo de Jabad hasta la actualidad, con cientos de filiales alrededor del mundo. Sus escritos sobre Jasidut –Filosofía Jasídica– Jabad se caracterizan por su extenso, claro y organizado desarrollo, razón por la cual es conocido como el Rambam (Maimónides) del jasidismo.
