You've likely coveted The Olsens' beachy waves, Dakota Johnson's bangs, or the bold stylings of Christina Aguilera at one point or another. Their looks are attributed to the shear (ha) genius of celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend. Mark made waves of his own working in Hollywood, from assisting Danilo and Sally Hershberger to creating looks for Vanity Fair, The Met Gala, beauty campaigns and countless red carpets. Mark pulls back the curtain to discuss things we really like a know, like how it works when he gets sponsored by a brand but his client is not? Plus: which products The Olsens could have been long-term testers for, the hair products and tools that are unsung heroes in his line of work, and lots more juicy details from his career.

In today’s episode, we take a moment to remember and honor the lives of Graham Nation and Jesus Guerrero, two beloved and incredibly talented hairstylists who left an undeniable mark on the industry. We also dive into the Lashify vs. Bethenny Frankel drama that’s been taking over social media. Segments of this episode are sponsored by our friends at K18. As always, we vet and approve all products and brands we promote on the podcast.
If you're looking for thicker, fuller hair, K18 has a new innovation for you to try. But first: Sara went viral last week after reuniting with Justin Bieber after 15 years. Kirbie and Sara got to preview the insanely successful Rhode pop-up store before it opened to the public, Biebs was there, and the rest is history.
Then we reveal the product we've been testing (and teasing) since November: K18 Astrolift! This volumizing spray is humidity-proof, promises to give touchable volume + bounce for up to 2 days, and is buildable and lightweight. But don't take our word for it: several Glamgelenos have been testing Astrolift and we're sharing a few of their reviews, which you can also read for yourself on K18's website!

Have a question about the beauty industry? Chances are, it’s covered in this episode. Our guests today are one of our favorite accounts to follow due to their thorough, fun and accurate content: The Lipstick Lesbians! Product developer Alexis Androulakis and education technology expert Dr. Christina Basias Androulakis join us on the pod — we wish we had several more hours to interview them!
They share how nearing bankruptcy ultimately lead to their success (and why you shouldn’t self-fund your own brand if at all possible), how Christina encouraged Alexis to begin making content about where products come from and how they work, and then answer listener-submitted questions, including why removing talc has ruined so many of our favorite powder products, why do some products look one way in the bottle but different on the skin, how to find your perfect foundation color match, how tariffs are going to affect product development in the beauty space, and why so many brands launch the same products within a short period of time. Plus, they reveal more about LLab — an 8-hour online master class with a framework developed by Christina and taught by Alexis that shares the nuance of products and is a tool to help everyone from consumers to experts.

In non-beauty news: Backstreet's Back with a show at The Sphere, but tell us why we can't get a *NSYNC residency? (We're blaming Justin Timberlake and the boys's individual management). Kirbie then shares her casting choices of who should play the band in a biopic. We're revealing a new product that launches this week: Odele's Volumizing Foam, which works to protect the hair from heat and add volume and body to the hair. Some of you even got to try it before it launched — read real reviews from our testers here! Plus, use code GLOSSANGELES for 20% Odele's website through 8/18/25.
In headlines, MAC is back in a big way... by reviving old favorites! It's working and we love it for them. Then it's another Misscontinued... which lip brand from yesteryear is on our minds?

For Joomee Song, the secret to facial sculpting is all in the hands—no fancy gadgets, no high-tech tools, just her fingers. The Los Angeles-based esthetician and founder of Faceworks Inc. has a client roster that reads like an awards show red carpet (think: Lady Gaga, Zendaya, Greta Lee, Sydney Sweeney, and more), all of whom swear by her signature KAIKA™ facial sculpting massage—a technique rooted in deep facial massage, chiropractic Shiatsu, and Japanese microcurrent therapy. Fittingly, Kaika means "to bloom" in Japanese.
In this episode, Joomee shares how growing up in Japan and watching her grandmother’s skincare rituals shaped her holistic approach, why she believes skincare routines as of late are way too aggressive, and whether facial massage can replace your actives. Plus, she breaks down how overusing one side of your body can lead to facial asymmetry and her go-to massage techniques for sculpting your face at home.

This episode is brought to you by Amika as part of our Gloss Angeles Confidential program. With so many ingredients villainized and greenwashing running amuck, you might be surprised to learn how Amika CEO Chelsea Riggs feels about sulfates and dimethicone in your hair care, as well as the problems being a sustainable brand can present. Chelsea has been a founding member of Amika for the last 15 years, taking the company from a tools brand to one of the top 5 hair care brands on the market. She discusses with us what they’re up against when it comes to formulating, the brand’s hero ingredient sea buckthorn berry, and why the new lipid-restoring, 3-in-1 Superfruit Star Lightweight Styling Oil is unlike any other you’ve tried.

This news episode, Sara is sharing a K-Beauty find that’s difficult to get your hands on — but you’ll want to. Kirbie waxes poetic about a lip stain that makes your lips look lush and plump without the worry of looking fake. Then we dive into Tarte’s latest drama. Celebrating 10 years of Trippin’ With Tarte, the brand made their way to Necker Island with a gaggle of influencers. And while they did donate money to the LAFD, it was the way in which they promoted these donations and the overall tone-deaf social strategy that has us scratching our heads. Tune in to hear why we don’t think the trip should have been cancelled but what the brand should have considered before posting.

It’s been a heartbreaking week in Los Angeles as our community grapples with the devastation of the fires. Kirbie and Sara share ways you can lend a hand and support those who’ve been displaced during this difficult time. For a little lightheartedness, Kirbie reveals her current obsession: Mufasa — but not the movie (she still hasn’t seen it) — the viral soundtrack making waves on TikTok. Are you hooked too? Finally, we break down Allure’s latest buzzworthy piece spotlighting “old ladies.” Is the term offensive? Should it be? Let’s unpack the conversation and what it says about beauty, aging, and language.

As you may know, Los Angeles has been ravaged by fires in the Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and Pasadena. There is devastation taking place in this beautiful city we love. Instead of our regularly planned guest episode, we wanted to highlight our conversation with Amy Liu of Tower 28 who came on the pod in 2021. Amy has been a longtime friend of ours, as we all launched are brands within a few months of each other. She is a loving, generous and special woman.
Amy's home in the Palisades is one of the only left standing, and despite being displaced, she has been putting herself to work to help those in need. This is the person Amy is. We're hoping by resharing our conversation that new and longtime listeners alike will learn what an absolute gem Amy and discover what makes her brand so special.

2025 is just around the corner, but before we pop the champagne, we’re looking back at everything that made 2024 unforgettable. Let’s start with the tiny details: it was officially the Year of the Pipsqueak (affectionate), thanks to the powerhouse that is 5-foot-tall Sabrina Carpenter and the larger-than-life, but smaller-than-average cast of Wicked.
We’re also revisiting some of the year’s biggest beauty headlines, from the billion dollar trend of Superbowl beauty commercials to the drama surrounding that Givenchy powder scandal. And of course, no year-end wrap-up would be complete without a breakdown of the most viral products of the year, including Milk’s Jelly Tint, every single bronzing drop, and the obsession that was Cherry Cola lips. It’s been a wild ride—let’s relive it all one more time!
