Hi everybody, welcome to GIG I’m your host Mike Redman. I've been advised to ask you to subscribe, follow, and like this podcast so that I can reach as many artists as possible, so please take a second and do that, you’ll be joining the ranks of the awesome people.
Something I hear over and over in my interviews is ‘You can do it’, as long as you're willing to work hard. I don't think you'll find many artists that work harder than Matthew and Liz who together make up the band SIKORA.
Our interview was both enlightening and just plain wonderful. You see Matthew and Liz are partners in business in the band and in life. They've made some very smart decisions in their career which has led them to having financial security as well as artistic freedom.
I think you'll really enjoy this interview it's just so nice to see a band that's doing so well, has no ego issues, and love each other as much as they love music.

The ratio of successful female composers to male composers is approximately four to one. I'm not sure why that is because if you listen to the music that they create Trailers,Straight ahead film scores, action, drama, you name it the only difference is creativity and style … which is not gender specific.
AND if a score requires great sensitivity, female composers at least in my opinion win hands-down.
Elena Maro is an extraordinary composer and her energy and dedication should be an inspiration to anyone considering this field of work and a career as a Music Composer.
Interestingly enough, Elena Maro is also married Marco Antonini another rising star composer on the Hollywood music scene. This was a delightful interview and as always, there are some great takeaways.Visit GIG with Mike Redman @

Today I have a great conversation with close friend, and composer Greg Sims. We are talking about the importance of taking chances to move your career forward and what we’ve learned from our own experiences.
Greg has taught me so many valuable lessons. One example is that there is not such thing as multitasking.
Both Greg and myself took a lot of chances in our careers, chances that could have been disastrous, but looking back we were smart enough, semi fearless, and most importantly had confidence in ourselves.
So - it’s time to face your fears and JUST SAY YES!

Whether you're trying to license your music or someone else wants to license your music , licensing is something that every musician, publishing company, and record company needs to understand.
Music specialist Suzanne Coffman and her company Music Rightz, and that's with a 'Z' , clears for everything from live events to TV , and film. Suzanne gives a great overview of some of the basics of Music Licensing, and why you should care about it.
Music Licensing isn't sexy, but if you're serious about wanting to place, your music it's something that you need to understand !

Today I’m joined by Penka Kouneva. She explains to me, some of the intricacies and differences between writing music for film as opposed to writing music for a game.
I was really surprised at how different they are. There are lots of opportunities composing music for games, and it's only expected to grow. So take a listen as we jump right into composing for games with Penka Kouneva

I don’t actually watch a lot of TV but I do love an entertaining , well written and produced show. I’m not sure how I stumbled upon White Lotus but it would be one of my top picks for a ‘must see’, they take chances. It has smart humor, and more over some of the most original, accessible, and inviting music on television. The composer behind the score is Chilean-Canadian film composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer or as I have come to know him ‘Cristo’
Cristo is not what you think of as a typical film composer… what I mean is that he is an experimenter, creating sounds from nothing , combining textures, defining rhythms and finally happily marrying them to picture doing more than creating an ambiance. Cristo’s music helps to define the scene or cue, it helps to breathe life into it.

I had a casual conversation with legend Josh Rabinowitz, who Fast Company called the new music mogul the Cannes Music Jury calls, a musical genius.
As many of you know, I made a great living, writing music, primarily for advertising, because that's where the real money was at the time. What you don't know is that I spent several of those years trying to get the attention of Josh.
At Grey Advertising he was a legend, untouchable, probably because his time was in such high demand . He's well-connected and he’s an expert in his field working with the who’s who in the music industry and from what I hear a great trombone player.

Hi everybody welcome to GIG I'm your host, Mike Redman. I grew up in the days when rock bands ruled the world and I lived in the South in Richmond, Virginia. One of my favorite Southern Rock bands was '38 Special'.
Still to this day they're one of the hardest working rock bands in the country playing about 100 dates the drummer in the band is powerhouse Gary Moffat, and I'm happy to say a longtime friend of mine. When Garry plays, you can tell that he puts every fiber of his body into it.
Today I'm happy to have Gary on GIG to share his thoughts about drumming, touring, soloing, and his family '38 Special'.

If you want to be a composer for TV, Film, or advertising? If so today’s episode is for you. Silas Hite is unique in the world of music. He makes a great living while NOT working on blockbusters.
Silas Hite is an Emmy-winning composer with music in his DNA. He began his career co-scoring blockbuster films like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs with his uncle, noted composer Mark Mothersbaugh (DEVO). His music plays in television shows around the world, from a series of investigative crime specials for the BBC, to foodie favorites Chef's Table (Netflix) and HBO’s The Big Brunch.

Part 2 of the 2023 GIG with Mike Redman consists of excerpts from some of my most interesting guests, giving their perspective on things like: making it as a independent producer in today's economy, things every musician should know about business, working with Quincy Jones as a producer, and more.
Enjoy, learn and be grateful - something I try to do every single day.

Today on GIG we explore into the magical world of sound for film and more specially the job of supervising sound editor Gwen Whittle.
With a career spanning several decades, Gwen has shaped sound landscapes for some of the biggest blockbuster films of our generation like "Avatar" and "Top Gun,”
Gwen's career is not just marked by her association with cinematic blockbusters or the 5 Academy Awards she probably has sitting on the fireplace in her living room. It’s the relationships that she’s has created along the way with her team which she refers to as ‘Family’ … that's what is most important to her.

I am often asked ‘how do I get into movies’ … It’s an interesting and complex question and there’s no easy answer, BUT today I talk with award winning Casting Director, Cami Patton who will give you some insight. If you want to be in the entertainment industry and ‘On Screen’ you’ll need to win over the casting director who happens to be the first person usually hired on when a project is green lit.
Cami is fun, smart, and obviously very good at what she does for a living and has cast such hit shows as Justified, Silo, Pushing Daisies, The Americans and over 100 other shows. This is a must listen for anyone in the film industry … So, let’s get started.
