My mission is to use the stories we all have in emergency medicine to encourage and uplift you where you are. EMT, Paramedic, nurse, PA, NP or physician. Emergency medicine is a very difficult specialty with unique challenges, and it calls us all to be better than the average person in order to stay healthy for our patients, our families and own mental wellness. I want to connect with EMS crews, fire crews, ER RN's, ER techs and new ER advanced practice providers to better understand their current struggles. I also want to bridge the gap between prehospital medicine and the emergency department and to encourage those seeking to become an advanced practice provider. Disclaimer: All Practical EMS content is opinion only. It is unaffiliated with any company or organization and does not represent any company or organization that Aaron currently works for or has worked for in the past. No content should be taken as medical advice.

While patients may have different goals and preferences for treatment, which can make selecting the best hypertension management plan difficult, adherence may be increased if the plan aligns with the patient’s preferences. What approaches in shared decision-making may improve adherence? In this episode clinicians and a patient discuss changes in terminology when talking about patient compliance to the use of adherence and non-adherence. These changes are part of the larger shift to shared decision-making in patient care. Expand your skillset at your own pace. Listen and learn how to employ shared decision-making across a range of care settings.

This book and subsequent audio companion reflect what I would have wanted when I was studying for the USMLE Step 2 CK exam. One of the major hurdles I faced while studying for my exam was the lack of a single reference resource similar to what existed for the USMLE Step 1 exam at the time of writing this book. This meant I had to use multiple resources which presented information in different formats and with different points of emphasis, resulting in a disorganized study approach.
Despite my relative success on the exam scoring 278 and >99th percentile I believe my studying would have been more efficient if a single reference resource existed. This is what motivated me to write USMLE Step II CK Plus, which is essentially my personal notes organized in a book and audio format. My hope is that this makes studying for the exam easier by giving future test takers that one-stop resource needed to excel on this all-important exam as Step 1 transitions to a pass-fail exam.
The information is organized into the main shelf examination topics (internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery) allowing for focused studying for each of these examinations as they approach, and therefore doubles as an excellent resource for the wards and NBME shelf exams.
Lastly, I believe that one of the best preparations to do well on the USMLE Step 2 CK exam is to have a strong basic science foundation. Although the basic science topics are primarily tested in the USMLE Step 1, they are frequently referenced throughout this book and audiobook to provide greater integration of knowledge from a basic science to a clinical science perspective. This is done to facilitate greater understanding, less rote memorization, and ultimately, long-term retention and recall of the material.
Hope you enjoy and best of luck on your exam. -
