Today on the Canning+7 podcast, Suzanne C Sherman was my guest on the podcast. Suzanne wrote a book called FOOD PRESERVATION STRATEGIES. We discussed why it might be better to freeze dry your own meals as oppose to buying from companies that sale freeze dried meals. I know I had a guest who distributes freeze dried meals. However, there are advantages to making your own freeze-dried meals. We discussed that. We also talked about preserving meat, canning, and glassing eggs. The next podcast that Suzanne C Sherman will be on we will discuss another book she wrote called, the Lost frontier. In fact, if you are interested in her books she wrote. Check out The Red Hot Chili Prepper Survival Series.

3/30/2022From introduction to fuel storage 0 minutes to 00:12:44 How I introduced my new producer. How did she end up going from California to Salt Lake? How did Val Westover get in to homeopathic remedies, Essential Oils, to eventually owning Butter Fly Express? 00:12:44 to 00:23:21 What is the best way to store fuel? Different fuels, main used is gasoline, today’s gasoline does not store like the lead did. The Ethanol settles out and a burst can destroy your carbonator system unless it’s made to use. Hard on lawn mowers, weed eaters. Eth 3 gas you can store and will be marked as such. Put a good fuel stabilizer. Better for small motors. Diesel stores better, especially underground. Problem, have to vent tank. Power service is a good stabilizer. Propane is the king, stays the same because it’s under pressure. A propane generator will keep for a good 6 months. And very dependable. We talked about this off the podcast. Do not want ethanol because it settles out. No ethanol gas in lawn mower, good fuel stabilizers. Diesel store better, especially if it was underground. If generator, best way to go is propane because it lasts longer. Store gas for about 6 months How do you buy fuel to store it? Val - go to a truck stop, some Mavericks,Propane Generators from 00:23:21 to 00:31:46. Can you get one big enough to power your whole house and how would you hook it up? Val - be careful about Chinese. Honda, Colman, Coleman, NorthStar, Caterpillar, Onan, if it has a name you can’t pronounce, don’t buy it.how are you going to use it? What’s your peak time? Are you going to use it 24/7? Can have it set up to switch from power company to generator and it can be automatic.Depends on what the purpose is. Will have to decide and research. If you’re going to power your whole house, then need more engineering. Have a separate breaker box.00:31:46 to 00:41:22 How do you build your own solar generator? Several kits, Lyon, Point Zero; they have lithium ion for batteries. How good would a solar generator work in the winters here in Montana? Here in Montana, it gets into the negatives. Can you get batteries that can store solar power that would connect to the generator?Val – good battery in car will still start, same concept. Could put an insulated box and store it. Solar panels face the sun and the panels are good, will last about 3 hours unless you turn the panels toward the sun, then you can get about 5 hours.00:41:22 to 00:53:37 Herbs oils and water filters recommended for emergency. diet has probably changed, burnt food, stomach issues, food poisoning; keep the drain open, keep kidney working. Mallow helps. They have an herb kit. Kidney/Bladder kit. Don’t seem to have as much problem with bowels if kidney is working. Keep something to stay hydrated; salt solution to give to a small child to keep hydrated. Rosemary and small enema, maybe garlic. Essential oilsVal Lavender for burns, spearmint in drop of water for tooth infection, yarrow for cuts and hormonal for females will help with cramping. Just a little bit, maybe put on temples.Arnica Montana, plasmic, water purifiersVal - Berkey filter, can duplicate it, unburnt wood, make charcoal off the wood, put it in a sock and run the water through it and it will filter the water. 00:53:37 to 01:03 recommend to put in a 72-hour kit; Kevin says a regular AM/FM radio. His favorite pocket and portable radios are, C Crane radio. Val likes 2-way CB radios. He also likes small ham radios. Freeze-dry food;Kevin mentioned that he would like to have a month or so to prepare his favorite meals and freeze dry them for either food storage or a 72-hour kit. Val - prefers to buy the individual pieces and mix up own thing. Soak old beans in distilled water and it will soften them up and use them. 01:03 to the end of the podcast. wooden/pellet stoves Val wood stoves are messy, pellets are a lot cleaner and possible to cook on one. Val like the outside boiler, heats water, and

I decided to put the whole podcast in its entirety because, someone might want to listen to the podcast while driving or doing a long task that may make it not so easy to reach for your smart phone or audio playing device every 30 minutes. Shanon Brooks owns a college called Monticello college in Monticello Utah which is near the 4 corners area Shanon Brooks was on the bord of George Wythe College. We discussed what George College was and how Monticello College is a continuation of what George Wythe college was and should have been. I also gave a scenario when I sat in on a class at George Wythe College and tied it all in during the ending of the Podcast. I found Shanon Brooks web site very uplifting. Speaking of the website. I would like to thank Suzanne C Sherman for recommending to me Brian Duff the first guest for 2022. Brian has a site called Mind4survival. There is an abundant of information on his site. We only covered the surface. Brian and I discussed what is prepping. It isn’t just prepping for beans, bullets, beans, and I would add rice. There is definitely an emotional aspect to prepping. You could even argue that there is a spiritual side of prepping as well. We briefly discussed a person named Shelby Gallagher who cohost a podcast called Prepping2.0. Brian and I also talked water, food, and avoiding fake news. I am confident you will enjoy this podcast.

This is a 2-part episode. I interviewed a person named Phil Gleason. Unfortunately, my Microphone somehow became distorted after I did the podcast. This means 2 things. First, you will not be able to hear me tell you when part 1 of the podcast is over. You will hear the outro on part 1 of the podcast. However, it will sound be abrupt. Again, this is because I could not come in at the end of the podcast and tell you that this is the end of the podcast. The second thing this means, is you may not hear from me in a while because I need to get a new Microphone.
I found this podcast very enlightening. Phil Gleason has a self-reliant community in Central Utah near Delta. On the podcast, I tell you what this self-reliant community is not and what it is. We also discussed how Phil Gleason got started in this venture. For lake of a better term. It sounded like this community is a utopian area. That is not a bad thing in this case. I really hope to check this out soon. Perhaps in the next few months. The links are as follows.
