  • The automotive industry is experiencing a historic transformation at every level, from the manufacturing plant to the showroom. While new technologies will always push the boundaries of what is possible, do we believe the same about leadership? As a collective automotive industry that is accustomed to putting our faith in technology, do we believe cultural innovations deserve equal merit and footing?

Gravitas Detroit founder Jan Griffiths is the architect of cultural change. Whether on stage, walking the shop floor, or behind the microphone as the host of the Automotive Leaders Podcast, Jan has become the industry's most significant force for authentic leadership, a style of leadership that demolishes old silos and antiquated principals, building up trust and inspiration in their place.

Jan joins AutoVision News Radio host Carl Anthony to discuss why she left her high-powered executive role, why a culture overhaul in automotive is necessary, and why having her daughter's support means everything to her.

  • While consumers may not understand all the jargon, quirks, and idiosyncrasies of the automotive industry, their interests are piqued once they have a basic definition of a connected car and its potential benefits. However, that interest only extends so far, as consumers view certain connected car features and capabilities as more valuable than others.

This realization is among the key findings in a body of research from Salesforce in partnership with YouGov, released in January 2024, that surveyed nearly 2,200 U.S. drivers aged 18 and over.

In this solo episode, AutoVision News Radio host Carl Anthony summarizes the findings of this Salesforce study on connected cars and shares key insights from the survey on which features consumers will either pay more money or trade their personal data for.

  • Consumer trust is one of the most significant pieces of the ADAS puzzle. Although the value of consumer trust with regard to ADAS is well acknowledged, it's no less important, especially as technologies like DMS enter the picture.

What is the link between consumer trust and the fully optimized synchronization of ADAS and DMS? When the external and internal sensors are on the same page, communicating in tandem with the intent to keep vehicle occupants safe, what would that do for consumer trust?

Seeing Machines has been tackling these and other complex questions for over two decades, driven by an internal purpose of getting everyone home safe. • Daily traffic volumes have rebounded from pandemic lows in 2020, but perhaps not surprisingly, traffic and pedestrian fatalities have risen in tandem. Maybe also not surprisingly, unsafe driving behaviors like speeding, texting, and operating under the influence continue to impact these statistics. Among the questions are why people engage in risky behaviors behind the wheel and what countermeasures can be implemented to prevent such behavior.

These questions are at the core of the latest Traffic Safety Culture Index (TSCI) survey from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, released in December 2023. The latest TSCI survey identified six driver profiles and examined the social approval and/or disapproval of certain unsafe driving habits.

Dr. Rebecca Steinbach, Senior Researcher for the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, joins Carl to provide additional insight into the findings of the latest TSCI survey. Dr. Steinbach explains the six driver profiles, how perceptions towards speeding have changed, and the little things we can do to become safer drivers.

  • Vehicles with all-wheel drive can provide more traction and stability, but how exactly do these systems achieve that? In an oncoming era of electrification, what are the differences and synergies between traditional all-wheel drive systems for gasoline-powered cars and e-drive systems? When we see terms and phrases like torque transfer, traction motor, and inverter, what do they mean? And what, if any, is the relevance of all-wheel drive and e-drive systems to larger-picture topics like sustainability?

AutoVision News Radio host Carl Anthony visited GKN Driveline North America in Auburn Hills, Michigan, to gain additional insight and perspective. While onsite, Carl met with Ben DeLand, Director of Electrical Hardware Engineering at GKN Automotive.
