  • Asha Degree was a bright, talented, happy 9-year-old living with her parents and brother in Shelby, North Carolina. She was an excellent student and the star of her basketball team. Surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, there was no shortage of love in Asha’s life. But in the early morning hours of February 14, 2000, Asha took her backpack that she had packed with several changes of clothes and slipped out of her house.

Several motorists later reported seeing her walking alone in a rainstorm at around 4 am. Where was Asha Degree going? What or who made her leave her home that night? After nearly 25 years, this remains one of the most confounding cases not only in the small town of Shelby, but in the entire country.

On September 10, 2024, the FBI executed several search warrants near where Asha was last seen. In this mini update, we're telling you what we know about this search, and including our original episode on Asha's case from October 2023.

Anyone with information on the disappearance of Asha Degree is asked to call the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office at 704-484-4788, or the FBI at 704-672-6100. There is a $45,000 reward for information that can solve this case.

  • On January 29, 1992, Byron Page was getting ready to go to college and take his driver’s exam. He had already been accepted into several schools, with more acceptance letters on the way. That afternoon, the 17-year-old decided to take the bus to his favorite movie and music store in West Hollywood, California. He never made it.

Despite being a promising student with no issues in his personal life, Byron’s case garnered very little attention in a city transfixed by the Rodney King trial. After a short investigation, police believed that he had met with foul play, but his case quickly went cold. Now, after 30 years, is there a chance that someone out there knows what happened to Byron Page?

If anyone has any information on the disappearance of Byron Eric Page, please contact Detective Tamar Abraham at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 323-890-5500.

  • On November 20, 1987, Louis and Susan Zaharias had an argument. By this point, fights weren’t uncommon for the couple, who had been married for six years. Susan was a stay-at-home mom with two small children who was feeling isolated while her husband worked long hours far away. But this day was different. Susan was acting paranoid, and not like herself. After a violent altercation, Louis left the home to give his wife some space. When he returned a few hours later, she and their children were gone.

What began that day was a journey that has completely changed the trajectory of Louis’s life. He’s spent every single day for nearly 37 years looking for his children. Louis firmly believes that his children are out there, but has no idea if they even know they’re missing.

Anyone with information regarding the abduction or whereabouts of Christopher and Lisa Zaharias is asked to contact the Orange County District Attorney’s Office at 714-834-3600.

  • On August 2, 2024, Manassas Park Police visited the Virginia home that Mamta Kafle shared with her husband, Naresh Bhatt. They were there to perform a welfare check because Mamta didn’t show up to work at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center on August 1, and her colleagues were concerned.

Naresh allegedly told police that Mamta had disappeared before, and that he didn’t want to file a missing persons report. Three days later, on August 5, Naresh reported his wife missing, but Manassas Park Police didn’t make this public until August 8. Since then, the community has banded together to do ground searches, hold vigils, press conferences, and even visit the Nepal embassy, all in hopes of finding out what happened to Mamta Kafle.

If you have any information regarding Mamta Kafle's disappearance, you are asked to contact the Manassas Park Police Department at 703-361-1136. This phone number is monitored 24 hours a day. If you wish to remain anonymous you can contact the Manassas/Manassas Park Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330.

  • Disappearances can happen in an instant. On April 19, 2016, 16-year-old Tyler Christensen went on a jog. He wanted to get a short run in on his way to a youth group meeting. But Tyler never arrived. After Tyler’s family realized that he was gone, they assumed something terrible must have happened to him. After all, he was a happy kid, living in Edmonds, Washington with a loving family and seemingly no issues. But as the investigation got underway, police began to believe that maybe this disappearance wasn’t as quick as it seemed. That perhaps Tyler himself had been planning it for a long time.

Anyone with information regarding Tyler Christensen’s disappearance is urged to contact the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office 425-407-3970.

  • It was a scene straight out of an action movie: specifically The Bourne Identity. On September 16, 2008, the captain of a Staten Island Ferry saw a woman floating face down in the Hudson River, near the Statue of Liberty. Horrified and thinking they found a dead body, two deckhands jumped in a rescue boat and went to her. When they reached the woman, one picked her up by her ankles, while another picked her up by her shoulders. To everyone’s shock, the woman took a gasp of air and started crying. This is how Hannah Upp was found after she went missing– the first time.

Over the next decade, Hannah Upp, a young, well-liked teacher, would go missing two more times. After her first two rescues, she had no idea where she had been or how she had spent her time. On September 14, 2017, Hannah was living in St. Thomas, on the U.S. Virgin Islands. She had survived Hurricane Irma, and three days before Hurricane Maria was poised to hit, Hannah Upp disappeared for a third time. Did she perish in the water, as many people believe, or is she still out there somewhere, with no idea who she is?

Anyone with information regarding Hannah Upp’s disappearance is urged to contact the Virgin Islands Police Department at 340-772-5605.

  • On August 1, 2018, 28-year-old Samantha Sayers was ready for an adventure. An experienced hiker, Sam decided to drive two hours away from her Seattle home and tackle Vesper’s Peak. The hike was supposed to only be a day trip, so when darkness fell with no word from Samantha, her boyfriend, Kevin Dare grew concerned.

Worried that she was injured, he drove out to the trail. But instead of his girlfriend, he found only her empty car. What happened next was the largest search and rescue operation in Washington State history. When Samantha wasn’t found quickly, rumors began to swirl, with people wondering if there was more to the story than a woman who simply got lost.

If you have information regarding the disappearance of Samantha Sayers, please contact the Snohomish County Sheriff at 425-388-3393.

  • In 2014, a little girl named Relisha Rudd went missing while living in a Washington DC homeless shelter, but no one noticed. For 18 days, no one in Relisha’s life saw her, but no one reported her missing. It wasn’t until a social worker from her school visited the shelter in person that he realized the little girl whom he had been told was sick, wasn’t sick at all. She was just gone.

Relisha’s story has had a deep and lasting impact on the DC region. July 11 is Relisha Rudd Remembrance Day. This week, we’re asking you to join us in honoring Relisha, who has been missing for 10 years.

  • On November 21, 2022, 11-year-old Madalina Cojocari boarded her school bus and went to school as usual. That afternoon, the bus dropped her off near her Cornelius, North Carolina home. But the next day, the bus went to school without Madalina, and no one at her school has seen her since. The most chilling part of her disappearance? Madalina’s family never reported her missing.

Both Madalina’s mother, Diana, and her step-father, Christopher Palmiter, were arrested. Now, over a year and a half after Madalina was last seen, they’re both out, but many questions remain. • This is a re-release of our April 2023 episode on Madalina Cojocari. You can listen to our June 2024 update here.

Imagine the abject fear a parent would experience after their 11-year-old child has been missing for over three weeks. No one has heard from her, no one has seen her. You’d be climbing the walls, right? Begging investigators and the public to help you find her? That’s what usually happens, but not in the case of Madalina Cojocari.

Madalina went to school as normal on November 21, 2022, but she didn’t show up the next day. Or the day after that. Eventually, on December 12, a school resource officer from Bailey Middle School attempted a home visit and left a truancy packet. It wouldn’t be until December 15, over three weeks since her daughter was last seen, that her mother, Diana Cojocari admitted to school officials that she didn’t know where her daughter was.

The Cornelius, North Carolina community has been frantically trying to find the missing little girl, while her parents sit in jail. Months have gone by, but no one is answering the question: where is Madalina Cojocari?

Anyone with information about Madalina Cojocari is asked to call the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-7773, or the FBI at 1-800-Call FBI.

Cualquier persona que tenga información sobre Madalina Cojocari debe llamar al Departamento de Policía de Cornelius al 704-892-7773, o al FBI al 1-800-Call FBI.

  • July 30, 1985 was a hot summer day in Toronto, Ontario, and 8-year-old Nicole Morin planned on spending it at the pool with her friends. The little girl donned her bathing suit, grabbed her beach towel, and said goodbye to her mother, Jeanette. It was around 11 am when Nicole left her penthouse apartment and headed to the elevator to meet her friend in the lobby. But Nicole never arrived.

Once Jeanette realized that her daughter was missing and called the police, the search for Nicole quickly became the largest investigation in Toronto’s history up to that point. A tremendous amount of time, money, and effort was put into finding Nicole Morin, but no trace of her was found. Was this simply a crime of opportunity, or was Nicole’s disappearance related to a much larger issue in Toronto in the 80s?

Anyone with information on Nicole Morin’s disappearance is asked to contact police at 416-808-2205 or via email at [email protected].

  • A troubled marriage leads to divorce and a bitter custody battle, with two young children caught in the middle. In 2011 Julia Birukova and her two children, 4-year-old Maile and 2-year-old Sky were living in an apartment in Redmond, Washington. On November 6, 2011, Julia and her children were up early. Sky was sick, and she needed to take him to the hospital. She bundled the children into her brother’s car that she was borrowing, and headed to the Overlake Medical Center. But they never arrived.

According to Julia, the car ran out of gas on the way. She left Sky strapped in his car seat as she and Maile went to go get help, but when she returned, her son was gone. Sky’s father, Solomon Metalwala was immediately suspicious of his estranged wife’s story, as were Bellevue Police. However, it’s been over a decade since Sky was last seen, and there have been no arrests in his case, or answers as to what happened to the little boy on that November morning.

    ---

Richard Hoagland was a successful family man who lived with his wife and two sons in a suburb outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. On February 10, 1993, he called his wife from work and told her he was sick and heading to the emergency room. He never came home again. For over 23 years, his wife Linda and their two sons wondered about his fate. But in 2016, a bizarre story emerged that proved Richard Hoagland wasn’t who they or anyone else thought he was.

  • On December 17, 2022, 19-year-old Kadin Black had dinner with the family he was staying with, the Foust Family. Their son, Ethan, was one of Kadin’s best friends, and the family had taken him in after Kadin had a fight with his father.

Though Kadin wasn’t living at his father’s house, he had plans the next day to go over and exercise his dogs. But Kadin never showed up. When Kadin’s father, Maurice, couldn’t get in touch with him, he called the Fousts. The father, Chris Foust, said that Kadin was probably still asleep. By Tuesday, the teenager was still gone.

The months that followed brought an investigation with frustratingly few clues. Did Kadin decide to vanish without a trace? Or was his disappearance at the hands of someone else?
