“No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.”
President Roosevelt criticized businesses paying low wages to employees during his 1933 statement on the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA). NIRA allowed the government to regulate businesses to combat deflation and stimulate a better economic situation.

We’re repeating a conversation from the first season that is important for anyone who relates to being autistic. Maree Martinovich, a psychologist in New Zealand who specializes in diagnosing adults with autism, has crucial things to tell us about ourselves. Things that will change the way you view your life as an autistic person. If there were only one episode of A Team you ever listened to we’d want it to be this one. Rafael and Robert, the founders of A Team, talk with Maree about executive function, time management, the differences in getting a diagnosis between men and women, tropes about autism, and the fact that if you are autistic you have suffered trauma in your life.

Hey there! Welcome to A Team Podcast. Glad you’re here.
Since you’re here, it’s very likely that you, or someone you know, has been searching for information about autism in adults. You’ve come to the right place. This podcast is all about authentic conversations about being an adult AND being autistic. We’re out and proud, and you should be, too. We hope that hearing us talk and laugh (we laugh a lot) and occasionally cry (emotions overwhelm us) will make you feel nothing but positivity about life for autistic people. We call ourselves the A Team for a reason, and we’re happy to have you join us.
We’re re-running our very first recorded conversation because we think it’s an important one. Our two founders, Rafael and Robert, explore what it means to them to have learned as adults that they are autistic. We’ve heard from hundreds of people that this conversation helped them feel, for the first time, that an autism diagnosis was not necessarily a bad thing. In this conversation, we discuss life before and after getting diagnosed, Imposter Syndrome, masking to get along, the history of autism diagnosis, and how having a diagnosis leads to having more understanding and support.
If you want more information about the topics we discuss, check out your podcaster’s description of this episode for links. And check out the chapter markers to find things that may be important to you. Thanks for listening.

Hey! We're celebrating our 10,000th download!
But first…You may have noticed that we’ve been off the air for a couple of weeks, and there’s an important reason for that: autistic burnout. You may not be familiar with the term, and you may not recognize the signs, but chances are you’ve felt it at some point in your life.
A few weeks ago, as the result of the conversations we’ve had on this podcast, I came to realize that I was suffering the effects of burnout… stuff I’ve felt at various times in my life but always felt I had to fight through. And because of what I’ve learned here, I knew I had to take time for self-care, and that meant taking some time off from producing A Team. I’m glad I took care of myself. At this time of year, we may find that we’re saddled with lots of obligations and expectations that can lead us to feel empty and unable to do anything. I was lucky enough to come across Neurodivergent Lou’s excellent InstaGram post, What Does Autistic Burnout Feel Like?, and I recognized myself. We’ll have a link to that Instagram post in the notes in your podcast provider’s description of this episode. I urge to read it and keep a copy handy. Heck, knowing you, you’ll probably laminate it!
Now, to celebrate our 10,000th download and the thousands of people all over the world who, like you, listen to us, we have all five members of the A Team podcast team in on this conversation. We talk about what it means to connect with you, dear listener; holiday traditions vs bullshit rituals, gift giving anxiety; and the importance of self-care.
Thanks, as always, for listening!
