In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story Amy talks about Happiness, the couple has been together 21 years, and there have been times when they haven't been happy. When you're in business with an unhappy person; you get away from the end of the day. But when you are married to that person, that unhappiness comes up. Amy has always been a stuffer, by showing all is well on the outside and stuffing everything down; accepting things as they come. How Chris is feeling emotionally dictates his happiness, where Amy is more factual than emotional. When Chris would be unhappy, he would look to Amy to fix it, and that didn't work for her. You can't carry someone's happiness; you can only be responsible for your own. When Chris is off of his game, focusing on himself and having a routine that focuses on the things that are important to him, it immediately causes a drift. As he began to drift this week, he was feeling like Amy was against him, and not feeling like himself, she can now identify it right now and ask him what is going on? Are you filling yourself first? Self-care is so important is because here he was the empty can and Amy is on the other side of that as the stuffer, taking it all on. There is no joy or happiness when you are filling yourself with everyone else's crap. When your spouse is experiencing this drift, it doesn't mean you have to carry everything.
If you are in a place of stuffing and carrying, walking on eggshells, you have already created your opposite nightmare, instead of the nightmare you are afraid to confront. Be willing to be their savior by saying you're not going to do it anymore; say what you see and stop living in misery. Stuffing the problems, pushing them aside will bleed into your marriage, your business, and your family

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Chris discusses the advice he would give to couples thinking about going into business together. This is a passion for Chris and his wife, couples in business together. First and foremost it is necessary to share a passion for the endeavor you're going into and be a balance with each other. One half is the creative and financial end, and the other has to be the doer and go-getter. Be very clear on the skills and talents of each person, who will do what and what the roles are inside of that. Strictly doing something for financial gain, can cause you to burn out; find something you enjoy doing and do that. Determine realistic targets and what the potential is for your business; if you're not aiming at something to reach it, you will never hit it. Seek counsel from people you respect on all levels; market trends, branding and creating an image, and figuring out the structure of your business. Always remember profit first; Income - Profit = Expenses, run this way from day one, and you will be profitable. Developing a successful Marketing strategy is most important; if you don't find a way to get people in the door your business will be doomed from the start.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Amy addresses the question,” What is the number 1 advice you would give to couples starting a business together?” Amy admits to taking this for granted; it is so ingrained in her because they have been doing business as a couple for a very long time. Amy could never imagine them living two different lives, by having two separate jobs. This question stumped her for a bit, and she had to think about what was the secret to their success? Most people can't imagine working with their spouse without killing them, and they wouldn't have it any other way. When you become business owners together, you are one. They never pit one against the other; they never battle against each other; they battle next to each other. When a problem arises, they are never quick to blame if there is a fault they are both responsible for it. Taking the time to pick your battles and what you choose to argue about; it needs not to become an issue in your relationship. This has been the key to their success, always being on the same side; working to compromise and realizing the other is not out to get you. Both working for the same goal and being happy inside of it.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Amy promised the listeners that they would come back to the subject of how they sold Procare. A business they created to give Chris a job that was profitable and did well, eventually became a source of burn out for him. Following a missions trip to Mexico where Chris felt drawn to the work they were doing there, he returned years later with Amy and their kids. They turned themselves over to whatever was needed from them and realized what they had created within their business and their life was a straight jacket.

In 2012 Chris and Amy both felt like they may be called to become Missionaries. The struggle was that they felt this call, but they had built this life that had become a straight jacket preventing them from answering that call. Chris gets an enormous amount of joy in his life from giving; whether it's time or money, it gives him great satisfaction. One of the Core values of their business is they give a percentage of their income, not from what is left over. They came to love the work in Missionary work in Mexico and decided that it was something they wanted to pursue, but it took years because of the business that was created around them and a dream home that was draining financially. When they finally made the decision that being Missionaries were what they wanted, someone stepped forward wanting to buy their business, and they put their house on the market. The straitjacket was off, and they were free to do what they wanted. For five months they pursued being Missionaries and came back home and no longer felt a specific calling to any place to serve. They also had no business and no home; just the trailer they bought to travel in. It was the first time he felt he was obedient to his calling and not his desires. When they walked in faith every step of the way, they continue to say yes to the calling that led them to this life of having everything they ever wanted.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Amy brings to the listeners her time of spinning plates to keep everything moving in their lives. So many can relate to this constant circus act of spinning a plate on a stick; both she and Chris felt this way. They were continually spinning plates in their bodies, spirituality, family, and business. And the second you stopped spinning the plate in on area it would slow down. Amy would spin her plates more in the family then the business plates, and wasn't paying attention to the body plate, and lastly trying to have a relationship with God. It gets to a point where there is no joy in spinning the plates; it's just another a task and survival. She realized she was creating the expectations of how her plates should look. Amy took a journey of finding her self and finding joy; and if a plate fell, the world would not come crashing down. The Core 4 was overwhelming at first, and Amy had convinced herself she would fail. As Chris taught her she realized through the Core 4 allowed her to make realistic expectations on her plates; she learned to manage them so Amy would feel she had a successful spin going. Learning to focus on each area 100% by itself; then move onto the next plate without unrealistic time expectations. Look at where you are putting expectations on yourself and your plates. Where is the plate you need to focus on 100%?

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Chris discusses how trying to keep all the plates spinning in his life has been a challenge. The routines that he has adopted in his life have attributed to him not having to do that anymore. Ultimately spinning plates is a metaphor for wanting to have success in all the different areas of your life that you feel are essential. Whether it is the hustle of keeping in shape or staying on top of your business; if you want success there, you keep spinning those plates. Being intentional every day in your Body, Being, Balance, and Business keeps the plates all spinning. Every day make small deposits into each area for just 2 hours in the morning before anything, be intentional, he has spun each plate, and everything continues moving forward. Making your time more intentional and not being distracted, every area will start to thrive. Chris Challenges you to analyze if you are spinning plates and whether your current routine is serving you or not; adopt habits that propel you forward.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Chris and Amy discuss the comparison between how they remember their first startup. Like ships in the night they didn't have a lot of time together; working several jobs and raising the kids added to the challenges that faced their new business. What they learned from it was worth more any money that was gained or lost; Always knowing the other was in it for the long haul was ultimately the biggest payoff.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 The Story, Chris discusses the first true Start-up he and Amy had called Pro-Care. From 2003- 2013 they started a brand, that had a good reputation in their area and became worth 1 million dollars. They became anxious to sell the business, finally selling it for six figures. Even with some stupid decisions along the way, they maintained their integrity and positively affected people's lives. Only being in their early 20’s, the financial system at the time was insane; banks were giving money away. Some of the pitfalls they ran into were credit card debt and building a house that was beyond their needs. It became a grind and hustle to keep up every month with just the operating costs of the business. They always knew the people and the connections, customers, and employees were always the priority. In turn, they maintained loyalties; developing a company that was successful and profitable. The Start-up was an amazing experience, it took six years to build up to a million dollar company, but they believed they could do it. Your experience sets the tone for what you believe, and what you believe is possible determines your reality.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Amy talks about how 14 years ago, her and Chris started Pro Care; it wasn't the couples first business, but this was the first big start-up they did together. Chris always wanted to get into construction, and one night Amy wrote up a business plan, that plan included a job for Chris at Lowes. It was purposeful and specific for him to work there. Chris was gone 12-14 hours a day, but it paid off when he met an established builder. Chris was running the landscape business, working full-time at Lowes and also working for the builder. Eventually quitting Lowes, his work with the contractor paid off, and Chris got his Contractors License, causing them to sell the landscape business. They built their Construction business, and it was a learning experience, wondering if there would ever be a way out. Trying to find someone to unlock Chris from a corner; Amy suggests to the listener to continually looking for a way out of your business.; You need to be working on your business, not in it. If you build yourself into a box, all you have created is a job. Create a plan and execute it; adjusting as you need it.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 The Story, Chris and Amy discuss how hearing the others opinion about their body, affected them. Growing up skinny as a boy is no different than being heavy. You look in the mirror and aren't happy with what you see. A shift in the way you see yourself and changing your mindset to be the person you want to be, whatever it takes will drive you to improve. Make a decision and be committed to it; let your lifestyle reflect that choice

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Chris shares the story of his journey with his body. He has always been underweight, scrawny and skinny. His “Someday” finally came, when the door opened for him to go from bony to beastly. He fully submerged himself in a quest to bulk up, including increasing his caloric intake, taking supplements and working out. Even when change happens, what we see in the mirror often doesn't reflect a different version of ourselves. What is that threshold for you until you notice the change? Who are you becoming because of the routines that you have?

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Amy shares how the pressure of the other Moms at pre-school, and their constant state of “Put Together,” caused her to succumb to her sadness. Most of her life she was tiny and tall, but life happened, and weight gradually crept on. It wasn't until Amy determined to have the confidence in herself, and to feel good, that she began to work on her, for her. It wasn't about the weight but about how she felt about herself; there is a power of feeling good, in your own skin. Find your happy place; it's not about your pant size or the number on a scale; it's about finding you, and being empowered.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Chris reflects on a memory which made him wonder if he was groomed to be an entrepreneur or if he was just a result of childhood slave labor. A lawn service started by his father, along with his brother, gave him a model of entrepreneurship. Having a small business together as a family, gave him the experience of hard work, that gave him the confidence to work independently and realize a lifestyle that he could obtain financially. It was the consistent drive to produce and create experiences and the desire to obtain a lifestyle that gave him success as an entrepreneur.

In this episode of 2 Sides 2 the Story, Chris and Amy discuss how hearing each other's experience of the same time in their lives, gave them a fresh perspective. They were both having the same anxieties, fears, and insecurities and dealing with them completely different. Being raw and real with each other and not backing away from collision has brought them into a new place in their relationship and their story.
