  • Dr. Jonathan Baktari is a healthcare CEO, vaccine and COVID-19 expert, and physician with specialties in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine. When asked what responsible leadership means to him, Dr. Baktari explains that it is about more than just growing and moving the ball forward economically for an organization, but also taking care of everyone in the organization. He believes that responsible leadership means waking up in the morning and trying to move the ball forward for everyone in the organization. He also emphasizes the importance of preventative medicine, vaccinations, and testing for viruses. With his expertise, Dr. Baktari strives to bring the best advice to help people succeed in responsible leadership.
    The conversation explores the relatively new art form of health entrepreneurship, which is becoming increasingly popular in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is difficult for medical professionals to transition into the field of entrepreneurship due to the time and energy they devote to their careers. However, some have been able to make the transition by focusing on their career while also dedicating time to their entrepreneurial endeavors. The conversation also mentions that many entrepreneurs have a noble purpose behind their work, which is likely true for those in the medical profession as well. Those in the medical profession may be motivated by a desire to help others, cure diseases, or find new treatments for illnesses.
    The conversation is about how health care professionals may feel conflicted about turning their noble purpose into a business and making money. It is suggested that helping people through clinical medicine is a great way to make a huge difference in people's lives, but it is limited to helping one person at a time. It is suggested that there is also value in finding ways to help people on a larger scale. The speaker talks about how his transition into entrepreneurship was gradual and based on a number of experiences and interactions over time. He encourages people to explore different paths and experiences to find what they have an affinity to.
    They discuss how one can be ready to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves. The speakers share how their career has been steered by various opportunities that have opened up to them over time. They explain that it was not a one minute epiphany, but by taking advantage of opportunities that opened up, they were able to gain different skillsets. They also advise that one should always be ready for when an opportunity presents itself, as you never know which one could change your life.   • Peter Rahbar is a workplace legal expert and founder of the Rahbar Group. In response to the phrase Responsible Leadership, he states that leaders must understand that it is their responsibility to take care of those who choose to follow them. This can manifest in many different forms, such as listening to ideas, understanding their needs, and providing them with support. He goes on to explain that he has worked with many leaders over his career and that he has developed strong relationships with them. All of these relationships have solidified his understanding of responsible leadership and the importance of taking care of those who follow. Ultimately, Peter believes that responsible leadership is a responsibility that must be taken seriously.
    Responsible leadership requires building trust with those around you, whether they are employees, clients or customers. To be a responsible leader, you need to have qualities such as vision, integrity, courage, humility, compassion, and flexibility. Vision involves being able to articulate your ideas to those who work for you. Integrity involves making difficult decisions and having difficult conversations. Courage involves going into difficult situations. Humility involves understanding that you don't know everything, and building a team to help you understand those things. Compassion involves showing empathy and understanding for those who rely on you. Finally, flexibility is needed as world conditions can change without warning and you need to be prepared to modify your plans accordingly.
    The conversation between the two speakers centered around employment and workplace law and how to build trust and understanding with clients. Peter, a lawyer, has been practicing for over 20 years and was inspired to pursue a career in law after watching television shows as a child. He originally planned to become a sports lawyer and was accepted to Proskauer Law Firm, where he learned the importance of labor and employment law. After 12 years of leading Hearst's global employment strategy, he decided to switch sides and start his own firm, where he now focuses on working with executives and individuals.

  • The Responsible Leadership Podcast welcomes Bill Treasurer, the founder of Giant Leap Consulting, to the show. Bill is the author of the book Leadership Two Words at a Time - Simple Truth for Leading Complicated People, which offers actionable and relevant advice to today's emerging leaders. Bill and the host, Earl Breon, discuss the importance of developing responsible leadership skills such as taking care of those who choose to follow you and building successful relationships with people.     Responsible Leadership involves four key elements. The first is to be committed to self improvement and exploring oneself. Lastly, they should be committed to leaving people and organizations better off than when they found them. These elements are important for any aspiring, emerging, or experienced leader and will help them become successful in their roles.
    The speaker is a leadership development consultant and has been working with leaders for many years in many different countries. He recently did a three hour workshop with a group of twenty people, and the day before with a group of emerging leaders who have just been transferred from individual contributors to managing people. In response to the question of what got him interested in the field of leadership, he said that he has always been passionate about helping people and guiding them on their journey. He also mentioned that his work has taken him to many different countries, allowing him to work with thousands of leaders. He is thankful for the opportunity to do such meaningful work.
    Treasurer was leading a group of 8 people when he harshly criticized them for not meeting standards. One person stayed behind and told Treasurer that if he ever spoke to him like that again, he would leave. Treasurer was embarrassed and ashamed, and realized he didn't know how to lead. He started reading books on leadership, such as The One Minute Manager and Up the Organization, and went on to do a thesis on leadership in graduate school. He was able to improve his leadership skills and became a better person in the process. This year, he launched his book Leadership Two Words at a Time and it became a bestseller. He acknowledges the importance of the individual who stepped up and had the difficult conversation with him, which ultimately changed his life.
