  • How do you make Alzheimer’s funny? On this episode of N&H our special guest Dayna Steele joins us to talk about her theatrical performance of "The Woman in the Mirror," a dark comedy about Dayna's journey navigating through her mother's Alzheimers diagnosis.

Dayna Steele was one of the top rock DJs in the country and made waves on Rock 101 KLOL. Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Joan Jett, and many other rock legends knew her on a first-name basis. Then, she became a best-selling author, a motivational speaker, an entrepreneur, a candidate for Congress, and, now, a playwright and a Broadway investor. But, along her public journey, she also faced personal struggles. One low point was her mother's battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She wrote her experiences and frustration of being a caretaker into a book, which is now being adapted into a play, "The Woman in the Mirror".

Additionally, we discuss the gripping narratives presented in Serial's "The Retrievals Podcast," recounting the theft of Fentanyl by a nurse from thousands of IVF patients. The Wonderly podcast "Exposed" is also on the docket, examining the disturbing case of a Columbia University physician who sexually assaulted thousands of patients. Our conversation extends to the realm of nurse entrepreneurship, exploring the possibilities and challenges that come with it. Lori shares insights from her personal journey, which she describes as her "HERO's" journey, offering a unique perspective on navigating the intricacies of the healthcare landscape.

  • Pablo Picasso once said “Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.” On this episode of the N&H Podcast my special guest Dominic Quagliozzi talks about his experience creating art that started from childhood while he was hospitalized with Cystic Fibrosis. We also talk about the importance Art in healthcare where Dominic will share his experience of creating art from illness which has guided him into a career as an artist.

Through various media, with a focus on drawing, painting and performance, Dominic Quagliozzi's work merges his lived experience as a person with chronic illness and disability into art. Using medical materials common to hospitals, clinics and home healthcare; hospital gowns, IV tubing, clinic table tissue paper, to name a few, Quagliozzi hints at the presence of a body past, present and future within health care systems and sick-well-sick-well cycles. By repurposing and re-coding medical materials as art making materials, he explores the emotional and psychological space in those moments of vulnerability, anxiety, fragility and resilience. Parallel to his art practice, Dominic uses art as a method of teaching for medical students and health workers. Quagliozzi received an MFA in Studio Arts from Cal State University, Los Angeles and a BA in Sociology from Providence College. His work is in the permanent collection at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and a collaborative work in the permanent collection at Museum of Latin American Art, in Long Beach, CA. He has exhibited work in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Providence and Denmark. In 2018, he was on the Keynote patient panel at the Nexus Summit for interprofessional care and education at the University of Minnesota. He is on the Arts Council for Creative Healing for Youth in Pain and has given workshops and lectures at the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine, USC Keck School of Medicine, Chapman University, Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Long Beach.

  • Is Porn consumption good or bad for you? Believe it or not Porn has been around for centuries. Humans have always had an interest in Erotica and sex as evidenced by cave dwellings. It wasn't until we had photography that we had pornography.

In this episode of N&H special guest Dr. Megan Maas joins us to discuss Porn and how media shapes our world view of sex. We'll also talk about porn addiction, what porn does to the human brain, how capitalisim and money drive the pron industry, and how to talk to your adolescent patients and children about porn and sex.

Megan Maas, PhD, is an assistant professor in Human Development & Family Studies at Michigan State University. She received her PhD in 2016 from The Pennsylvania State University as a pre-doctoral fellow funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Her award-winning research focuses on adolescent sexual socialization, with an emphasis on the bi-directional role that social media, sexting, and online pornography play in the development of attitudes and behavior related to sexuality and gender. Broadly, she is interested in promoting healthy romantic relationships and sexual competencies and preventing unwanted sexual experiences (e.g. childhood sexual abuse, adolescent sexual harassment and assault). Particular attention is paid to female adolescents' experiences with sexual harassment, self-objectification, sexual agency, and sexual behavior.
