This is somewhat a more personal episode for us at The Movie Calendar. Watching THE BLUES BROTHERS brought back a lot of nostalgia for us both, so much so that Terence would like to dedicate this episode to his father. Thanks Dad.

  • What an incredible Director December we have so far at The Movie Calendar where we have sung the praises of one of cinemas most prolific film makers.

Quentin Tarantino got to play with genres, for the making of KILL BILL, that you can tell he has nothing but the upmost respect for. His entry into the kung-fu world left a mark in cinema that is to be respected as much as it is to be celebrated. And that is what we are here to do.

Listen along as we tie a bow on this celebratory month with KILL BILL Vol. 2 and go through it chapter by chapter. We got a little carried away, but are very happy with this episode for you to enjoy.

With names like Donner, Spielberg, Columbus and Kennedy behind the camera it starts to make sense as to why this film is so full of wonder and excitement.

We talk about how perfectly cast this film is from the Goonies themselves to the villains of the story before getting to the regular segments of What About When and adding the film to The Movie Calendar.

So pull up a chair, pass the turkey and listen along as we discuss one of the best odd-couple road films of all time. Enjoy.

With a pitch perfect cast and a script that is as funny as it is clever, the real rock-star on display is here the director. David Fincher shows off a stunning mastery of his craft by keeping a razor-edge balance between chaos and order on screen whilst hiding one of the greatest narrative twists ever to unfold in cinema history.

  • Who would’ve thought that a film about bank-robbing surfers being hunted by the FBI could have so many philosophical and spiritual motifs? Kathryn Bigelow did.

This week we hit the beach and dive into the majestic world of POINT BREAK. This early 90’s action classic cemented Keanu Reeves as a star and introduced the world to Patrick Swayze’s bank-robbing, charismatic and philosophical Bodhi. This was a fun episode to research and record, there are a lot interesting stories about the making of this film that we discovered and discuss this week. Having Jenny in front of the microphone for this episode turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she gives some incredible insights into some of the more culturally niche aspects of the film. So listen along as we dive into THE FAREWELL without a parachute and hope for a soft landing.
