Most of us would agree that books on PLM, Engineering Design and Change & Configuration Management are not the most exciting read. In fact, many of us have actually fallen asleep while reading. So, why is it such a boring experience to read books on PLM? Why do most of us turn a few pages and then put the book away for good? In this special episode of Minerva PLM TV, we discuss the problem of PLM education and why the need for better-written books on PLM is needed to educate the next generation of engineers.

Digital transformation isn’t a one-and-done project. Change is constant and the rate of change your business is experiencing is only accelerating. Therefore, whatever you’re transforming must be done as part of a larger, more holistic vision—a constantly changing, multi-year roadmap that your executive team continuously revisits and modifies.
In other words, it’s a strategy that never ends. In this interview with Jennifer Moore, Mark Reisig, director of product marketing at Aras, talks about why successful transformation is a collective challenge and why now is the perfect timing for digital transformation.

In this episode of Minerva PLM TV, Jennifer meets with Mark Caradonna to discuss CAD integrations with PLM – why people hesitate to do it and how they can benefit from it.
There are various types of CAD integrations, and Mark outlines the main differences. He goes deeper and addresses a typical discussion with people considering integration – is not easier to add the CAD files into the PLM system in a zip file instead of integrating with our ECAD software?
Further, Mark sheds light on why companies need both Technical Data Management (TDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and why these systems work best together, not as a substitute to one another.
He concludes by answering commonly asked questions in ECAD integration with PLM.

In this episode of Minerva PLM TV, Jennifer once again meets with Bjørn Arvid Fidjeland to discuss the importance of getting more value from your data by giving your data context and structure.
Now, data has to be clean, translatable, and accessible. But it also has to be connected to the context it should be used in.
Otherwise, the data becomes meaningless. Bjørn talks about how connected data is used in the context of capital facility management and how you can combine structured data from that context with data from another context, like product development context.
It is the ability to combine and work with data across structures to reveal context and meaning across the lifecycle.
This is where data brings true value. He continues by sharing insights into how the European Spallation Source organizes their data across the lifecycle and what value they add.
In the last part, Bjørn covers how the digital twin can be applied to give data context and structure.

In this episode of Minerva PLM TV, Jennifer meets with Lionel Grealou to discuss the importance of people in PLM and other business-related transformation initiatives.
Lionel talks about the definition of Stakeholder Management and how to identify which roles should participate in the test and validation phase of a project. He continues by sharing the importance of including detractors in new projects and what value they add.
In the last part, Lionel covers how people can manage different roles and personalities in a project.

A little bit of data goes a long way. With a background in Medical Device, David G Sherburne is taking his experience from the engineering and IT sides to help companies formulate a strategy around connected products.
This includes steps such as getting charters together, understanding requirements, and more. Recently David blogged about Digital Transformation as a shift from selling things to selling services, which inspired Jennifer to bring him on the show.
David focuses on the future of engineering software and where connectivity is going. Companies sell a thing - a widget, software, products. What Dave saw happening in working with connectivity - is that you get information that changes the way you sell. He realized early on with Carestream's advanced connectivity how the shift from selling things to selling services was naturally happening.
David share's logical steps to go beyond gathering data. Look first internally and become aware. Then use the data to provide better service. Become more proactive. And ultimately provide matrix offerings that vastly improve customer experience and provider portfolio.
