  • In this episode of the Dark Corner, Brandi and Dave report from Salt Lake City FanX 2023. Brandi meets Star Trek author, Dayton Ward, as well as Gates McFadden, Denise Crosby, and Michael Dorn. Dave talks Skinny Puppy and improve with voice of Korea, Janet Varney. Also, Brandi pays Shameik Moore a compliment.

    Additionally, we buy dice, a water bottle, books, a comic book, a journal, rocks, a tarot card deck, and several metal bookmarks. We end the convention by attending a few panels. We observe science experiments regarding liquid nitrogen and thrust (not at the same time). We go through the King Kong films. We learn about kawaii culture, including gothic Lolitas.

    Finally, Brandi helps present a pal on the representation of women and Star Trek. We end our con experience with Snikt or Kikt, wherein drag queens, including D'Manda Martini and host Chad Anderson rate the various outfits worn by members of the X-Men.

  • In this episode of The Dark Corner, Dave and Brandi celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. That is, they talk about the lunar new year falling on January 22, 2023. Dave recounts the story of how the rabbit placed fourth among the twelve celestial animals. Moreover, he lists the traits of those born in the year of the rabbit. Additionally, he points to how the element of water affects qualities of a rabbit year person. Finally, Brandi and he talk about rabbits in pop culture.

    First, Dave reviews the movie, Bros. Billy Eichner presents a gay rom com that subverts the genre while also honoring the tropes. Also, Dave completes Saints Row 2022, calling it woke Grand Theft Auto. That is not a bad thing. Furthermore, Dave shares his haul from Bandcamp Friday.

  • In this episode of The Dark Corner, Brandi and Dave receive the VIP treatment at FanX Salt Lake 2022.  That. is, your host experience the first two days of Salt Lake City's comic book convention and fan exposition. We visit celebrity row. We buy dice, shirts, and tarot cards from booths on the vendor floor. We nab some prints at artists' alley. We also grab something to eat, including some delicious fudge. Moreover, we view a few panels and decompress in the VIP lounge. Ultimately, we host our own panel. We present a discussion on emotional intelligence in Star Trek: Discovery and Strange New Worlds.

    Also, we feature a promo for Dungeons & Daddies, an actual play 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons podcast. Finally, Dave plays you out with the Dark Track. Russian neoclassical dark wave band, Sterytale vs. Ministry of Truth, perform Emotions from Unsorted/remixes. 

  • In this episode of The Dark Corner, Brandi joins Dave to discuss the 19th card of the tarot, The Sun. As usual, we cover the imagery of the card, we delve into various meanings, and we explore numerology and how the card relates to the rest of the deck. Since Brandi is on the microphone, she has Dave describe images from various decks.

    In news, we devote a wall to Star Trek Art. Also, it's our anniversary show. We've podcasted for thirteen years. For instance, he illustrates differences between the external and internal schools. Moreover, he shares the methodology in both hard and soft forms. Also, he indicates how linear and circular styles approach power and energy. On top of that, Dave addresses special training, animal techniques, katas, and weapon forms.

Additionally, he addresses the many versions of games by Palladium Books. Furthermore, he recounts experiences with MARVEL, Star Wars, and BattleTech. Meanwhile, Dave touches upon the strengths and weakness of both players and game masters.

    First, Dave reports on a meteor exploding over Salt Lake County. Also, he announces a panel at FanX 2022. In reviews, Dave mentions The Sandman. Also, Brandi and Dave watch Lightyear.

    For the Dark Track, Deep Six performs Basement from the Brave New Waves radio session. This short-lived, American garage rock band released only one album.

  • In this episode of The Dark Corner, Brandi joins Dave to discuss all things strange. That is, we talk Stranger Things. In sum, we talk about what we did and did not like in each season. Also, we follow several character arcs. On top of that, we point out when and when not the series reflect the 1980s well.

    Before that, we watch the trailer to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. We talk about both the excitement and the criticism surround this film's release. Furthermore, we attended the live My Brother, My Brother, & Me show in Salt Lake City. Again, we point out both the good and the bad experiences. Finally in reviews, briefly we touch upon the MST3K riff on Camera vs. Jiger. Brandi celebrates the return of Jonah.

  • In this episode of The Dark Corner, Dave returns to the tarot with the 18th card, The Moon. For example, he describes the meaning behind symbols such as the wolf and the crayfish. Furthermore, he ties The Moon card to astrology and numerology. Also, he reflects on the psychology of this complex card and its association with the subconscious mind.

    Before that, Dave talks about how Elliot Page's very existence led to someone getting kicked off Twitter. Also, Dave laments gatekeeping around Kate Bush. On the other hand, he celebrates the success of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In an unrelated note, Dave tests for Autism.

  • In this episode of The Dark Corner, DJ Evil Dave returns to an exploration into the tarot with the 17th card, The Star. That is, he illustrates the symbology within the card. For instance, he relates the meaning of the female figure, the bowls of water she pours, and the lush greenery surrounding her. Moreover, Dave explains the numerology relating to The Star. For instance, how does it relate to Strength or the number 8 cards of the minor arcana? Additionally, Dave ties The Star to the proceeding card, The Tower and finds representations of The Star in popular culture.

    Also, Dave reflects on contemporary politics. He updates you on the COVID situation at the studio. Additionally, he reviews a couple of films and a television show. For example, he critiques Demon Squad and how effectively Mystery Science Theater 3000 riffed on it. He watches Turning Red and delights in its metaphor for a young woman coming of age. Moreover, he celebrates its dual representation of Canadian and Asian culture. Finally, he watches the first episode of Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy and predicts where it might go.

  • DJ Evil Dave of the Dark Corner has COVID for real this time. As such, he has elected to rerelease a podcast from a time in which he had thought he had COVID. However, it must have been some other illness entirely. So, as illness has interrupted the recording schedule, he hopes this will do instead of a regular release. Many of the sentiments apply, only this time the symptoms have been worse. Anyhow, here is the playlist.
