Earlier this week, Independent Senator Fatima Payman accused One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson of racism. The videos of Payman and Hanson went viral online, and have since resulted in another senator, Lidia Thorpe, being suspended from the Senate. It came after Hanson tried to refer Payman to a committee on the basis of her holding dual citizenship and thus being ineligible to sit in Parliament. The NSW police officer found guilty of manslaughter after tasering a 95-year-old aged care resident has been suspended without pay. Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe has spent the last sitting day of the year outside the Senate, after she was suspended from proceedings yesterday. Podcaster Joe Rogan has responded to comments by ABC Chair Kim Williams, who said Rogan “preys on fear” and “anxiety”, which he said he finds “deeply repulsive". And today’s good news! A hiker has been found and rescued after he was believed lost in a remote part of Canada for five weeks.

Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire after nearly 13 months of fighting. The agreement came into force yesterday and is "designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities". Over the next 60 days, both Israel and Hezbollah will be required to retreat from their current positions in order to meet the demands of the deal. Two 19-year-olds from Melbourne are among six people to have died from a suspected methanol poisoning incident in Laos. Bianca Jones and Holly Bowles were visiting a tourist town in the Southeast Asian country when they fell ill. They were rushed to separate hospitals in Thailand, where they died late last week. Speaking after the death of his daughter, Mark Jones told media in Thailand that Bianca was enjoying “the trip of a lifetime with one of her best mates”. The suspected poisoning has also claimed the lives of tourists from Denmark, the U.S. and the UK, in what’s now become a multi-national investigation. Authorities in Laos have conducted raids and detained some people for questioning, but no one has been charged. Today, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about this story.

Victoria will roll out its first pill test at a music festival this summer.
35,000 people attending Beyond the Valley will have access to the drug-checking service for the first time, as part of the state government’s plans to conduct more trials across Victoria.
Health experts and youth support workers will be stationed at the pop-up pill testing site to analyse drug samples and give advice to young festival-goers.
