Gemma and Ian chat to Dr. Joseph Dituri. Dr. Jospeh Dituri lived undersea for 100 Days in a mission combining education, ocean conservation research, and the study of the physiological and psychological effects of compression on the human body.
Commander Joseph Dituri enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1985. He served continuously on active service upon various ships and shore stations where he was involved in every aspect of diving and special operations work from saturation diving and deep submergence to submersible design and clearance diving. Now that he is retired from 28 years of active service to the United States, he is the president of the International Board of Undersea Medicine. He also volunteers his time as the CEO of the Association for Marine Exploration. He is an invited speaker on motivational, sea and space related topics.

Beneath the aqua blue waters of the North Norfolk coastline is a hidden world of marine magic.Diver Chris Taylor has lived in Sheringham all his life and has snorkeled the offshore chalk reef since he was a teenager.
Recently, he started filming his trips. Chris Taylor was born and bred in Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast and absolutely loves this area. He did a degree in Marine Biology, a spent year travelling and diving in Australia.
At 20 miles long and six miles wide, it is the largest chalk reef in Europe. It's a 100 million years old and teeming with life - edible and velvet crabs, lobsters, starfish, anemones and jellyfish can all be seen easily.

Ted Harty is scuba instructor from the Florida keys, who ditched the scuba tanks to become a Freediving instructor. Ted is the founder of Immersion Freediving which he started in 2010. He’s an instructor trainer for Performance Freediving, and is a past USA freediving record holder. His deepest free dive is 279ft or 85 meters and his longest breath hold is 7 minutes.
He’s appeared on the Discovery Channel with Tim Kennedy, worked with Ben Greenfield and past CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey. He has a podcast Freedive Live where he shares his expertise and covers the most common questions, he has been asked over the past decade of teaching freediving. Ted creates daily freediving advice videos on all his social channels.

Gemma and Ian chat to Hayley Adlam. Hayley has been crowned, Miss Scuba International 2023 and at the time of our interview she was a finalist about to embark on the competition in Malaysia.
Having worked in the offshore industry alongside commercial divers for over a decade, Hayley dived into the world of Miss Scuba UK after seeing a noticeable gender gap not only within the recreational diving world (only 39% of registered PADI divers are women (2021)) but more notably, within the commercial dive sector where a minute proportion of women are represented.
Hayley, as a part of this year’s Miss Scuba UK team duo, aims to inspire other women to not only try scuba diving, but also show that there are plenty of opportunities within the commercial diving sector for all genders through sharing her knowledge and experience of the offshore world.
“During my time operating on offshore wind farm construction and subsea telecommunications vessels, there was a noticeable lack of women in the commercial dive teams working on our projects. I was inspired by the ethos of the Miss Scuba UK foundation whereby one of the primary aims is to encourage other women to take the plunge beneath the waves”.
Miss Scuba UK aims to create a safe space for women to explore the opportunities that learning to SCUBA dive has to offer and as an organisation, it has well and truly fulfilled this mission over the past 8 years. After a four year break due to COVID-19 it is now a case of continuing this work and engaging more women to take the plunge.

Gemma and Ian chat to Joanna Wyrebek. Joanna originates from Poland and her diving journey started in 2014, and since then progressed to become a PADI Recreational Dive Instructor, a CCR Cave diver and a Full Trimix diver. She travels a lot but mainly dives the cold waters of the UK, whilst also having a strong passion for wrecks and overhead diving A passion shared with a female diving group called ‘The Cavettes’. As one of the co-founders of this group, The Cavettes are united by their mission of inspiring more women to follow their dreams and take the plunge into cold water and overhead diving. Joanna is a member of the Santi Brand Ambassador team and also a DAN Europe Ambassador since 2022. Her passion for the care for the oceans and marine life that lives within is huge and she has recently participated in the Ghost Nets Malta project where Gill nets were recovered and abandoned fishing cages and over two tones of waste from the sea.

Gemma and Ian chat to Chris Lemons. Chris is a deep sea saturation diver who was involved in a catastrophic accident which left him stranded 300 feet below the surface of the treacherous North Sea, with no light, heat or breathing gas for 35 minutes. His miraculous survival is the subject of the hit Neflix and BBC documentary 'Last Breath,' a version of which is currently being developed into a Hollywood movie starring Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu and Finn Cole. Chris still works in the offshore industry and is available for public speaking engagements.

Gemma and Ian chat to Bobbie Scholley. Bobbie served in the U.S. Navy as a Diving and Salvage Officer for 24 years, holding leadership roles in many navy diving operations including the 1996 recovery of TWA Flight 800 off the coast of Long Island, NY, the 2000 bombing recovery of the USS COLE in Aden, Yemen, and USS MONITOR Expeditions 2001 and 2002 off the coast of Hatteras, NC. She was the fourth women to have command of a US Navy ship and the first women to command a US Navy Mobile and Diving Salvage Unit.
After completing her naval service, Bobbie turned her focus to non-profit opportunities, concentrating on work associated with veteran groups and education. She was inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame (WDHOF) in 2000 and held positions as President and Chairman of the Board, actively supporting their mission of mentoring new divers. Bobbie was a member of the Board of Directors of the Navy Diver Foundation, helping to ensure veteran navy divers were recognized and cared for.
Bobbie is a seasoned speaker and is routinely called upon to provide her expertise for breaking news interviews, seminars, presentations, and panels.

Abbie Barnes is an award-winning presenter, filmmaker, and mountain leader with a passion for tying wellbeing to expeditions and adventures in the natural world. They are also the founder of the organisation Spend More Time In The WILD. Ultimately, Abbie is on a life-long mission to empower people to get outside for the benefit of mental and physical health, whilst also giving back to nature to leave the planet in a better place than when we arrived.
Abbie has been making films since the age of 13. They earned international recognition for their work in the field of wildlife and conservation, winning awards hosted by Sir David Attenborough and speaking in the European Parliament, all before the age of 16. Since then Abbie worked as a personal trainer, instructor, and walk leader, whilst building what is now one of the longest-running adventure and hiking YouTube Channels in the world. On this platform, Abbie vulnerably shares their wellbeing story and uses nature as a metaphor that can capacitate us all to work through life's obstacles and access a life full of thrive.

Gemma and Ian chat to Mallory Haas. Mallory is a maritime archaeologist who is originally from the Great Lakes in the US. Mallory started working with the SHIPS Project in 2013 and is now a director and chief archaeologist for the Project.
A recent venture is The 1000 Tyres Project, which came about while looking for shipwrecks with the University of Plymouth Hydrography school, while searching we found thousands of tyres on the seabed in Plymouth Sound. The 1000 Tyres Project aims to help clean up Plymouth Sound National Marine Park by removing tyres and other abandoned junk, and Mallory leads this first environmental initiative by the SHIPS Project.
