  • In this week's episode, I talk to Dr. Joan Chan about change within your practice. Dr. Chan shares that system change starts with you, even the smallest changes you make will have a ripple effect. Dr. Chan talks about how changes that you make within your practice serve your patients as well. Her message is that you are not responsible for your patients' thoughts, feelings, actions, or even outcomes. We offer, we influence, and we support but ultimately, we must understand what is not under our control. This is more empowering for the patient AND you!

    Meet Dr. Joan Chan:

Joan Chan is a mother of two sons, a wife, a superfan of Ru-Paul's Drag Race, and a family physician of a thousand patients in Guelph, ON. She also serves her medical community as a restorative medical educator, using courses, workshops, and coaching to facilitate the reconnection of medical practitioners with their humanity. She loves working with burnt-out clinicians to build sustainable and even enjoyable experiences of medical practice - and believes this is the key to saving our healthcare system as a whole.

  • In this week's episode, I sit down with Dr. Megan Melo. We talk about how practicing medicine doesn’t always look the way that we want it to and can’t always look the way we want it to look. We talk about how as a physician we give our time, our care, and our concern in the hopes to make up for the lack of knowledge we feel that we have, and this creates toxicity.

    Meet Dr. Megan Melo

Megan Melo is a Family and Obesity Medicine Physician, as well as a Certified Life Coach, specializing in Physician Burnout. After leaving behind an employed position in a large health system, Dr. Melo currently practices part-time in a physician-owned practice and is the CEO of Healthier For Good PLLC, which offers both 1:1 and group coaching to Women Physicians and Associated Health Professionals. • In this episode,  I chat with Janet Whalen about how she helps bad sleepers & insomniac's become great sleepers! She shares that sleep is an inside job - no amount of supplements, weighted blankets, and blue light-blocking glasses helps as much as training your brain and body to relax on purpose; Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and productivity focus are the main enemies of sleep for most busy women. Insomnia is a 24-hour problem that we need to work on during the day!

    Meet Janet Whalen:

Janet Whalen is a sleep & stress management coach for midlife, high-performing women. A former insomniac (40+ years!) turned great sleeper, Janet is passionate about helping women give themselves permission to sleep, rest and care for themselves after years of giving everything to work, family, and others.

Janet's coaching membership, Permission To Sleep, helps members sleep better without pills, potions, or needing anyone else's permission. Janet is a Certified Life Coach with The Life Coach School and has also been trained as a Co-Active coach through CTI. She is trained in CBTI (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia) and is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher in training! Before she found her own sleep solution, she was a marketer, family photographer, and mom to her two adult sons. She's now empty nesting in southern Ontario, Canada with her husband of 25 years. When she's not talking about sleep, she can be found reading, kayaking, hiking, and gardening.
