In this share, I’m talking about what can happen when one or more of your basic needs isn't met in childhood and how to break any behavioural habits that are not supporting your mental and emotional well-being or your relationships.
I had friends over one afternoon and we got into a discussion about how the way we grew up impacted who we are and how we behave in certain situations today.
This conversation was a great reminder that no matter what your life was like growing up, it does inform who you are today. Good or bad, it made you, YOU.
Journal Questions From Episode:
- Are you a problem solver who believes you have to solve everyone’s problems even when they don’t ask for help?
- Are you a protector who comes to everyone else’s aid, putting your own wellbeing aside?
- Are you constantly people pleasing, making sure that everyone else’s emotional state is where you think it should be, but you yourself feel out of control, unloved, or not supported?
- Do you feel like not doing these things will somehow make people abandon you, or not love you?It can be helpful to ask yourself some questions before you go into any of these default roles.
- Am I the one who needs to be solving this problem?
- Does this situation, or event require me to plan for a worst-case scenario, or can I just relax and enjoy myself?
- Do I need to be the protector in this situation
- Is it the adult me that is needing to people please, or have I just reverted back to a childhood behaviour where I feel it is my responsibility to keep the peace?
- Or, you can simply asking yourself, why am I not feeling safe? Or, is this behaviour supporting me?
- What do you do today that is from an old childhood behaviour? It kept you safe then, it would be good in a certain situation, but you don’t need it all the time. Think of the things that don’t feel mentally, emotionally or physically supportive and give you anxiety.Embracing all part of YOU:
- What can you do to embrace who you are, what makes you, YOU, but change the pattern that doesn’t serve you in every situation?
- What reaction, response, behaviour, action or decision would be more supportive?
- If you felt the way you want to feel, what would you do differently?Connect with Laurie-ann

We have been taught to measure our worth by how much we earn. And because of this, so many of us feel unworthy, even when we meet a certain level of financial success. That's because self worth is an inside job. In this episode I am talking about self-worth from the perspective of no longer defining your self worth by what you earn. I explore why we develop these beliefs, changing the way we communicate with each other and ourselves, and how to create a new value system that supports yours (and each others) mental and emotional health.

In this solo episode, I’m talking about some steps you can begin to take to communicate your needs.
Whatever it is that you are not saying out loud, doesn’t go away just because you are not voicing it. It festers and grows and gains momentum. All of a sudden you are having an argument that doesn’t even have anything to do with the original thing that was bothering you. You end up saying ALL THE THINGS, a lot you wish you could take back. Now the defences are really up and you are probably left feeling unsupported, unseen, unheard and resentful.
So let's try to do it differently so that yours (and their) needs are getting met.
People don't know what they don't know, which makes communicating your needs so important.

In my first solo episode back, I’m talking about taking off our protective masks, and why we put them on in the first place. I’m also sharing what I’ve been learning and experiencing over the past few months during my content creation hiatus and even just the past couple of years.
Like I do with most shares, I end the podcast with some journal prompts to help you reflect on the conversation and topics discussed even deeper.

Don’t have the mental, emotional, and physical bandwidth to deal with even the smallest thing some days? You are not alone! Burnout these days is the talk of the town. We are pushing ourselves to the limit to do and be ALL the things, even the things we don’t want to do or be.
Jen Jones and I talk about how hard is it to set boundaries with ourselves and with the people in our lives especially with the people that we love so dearly. We spend so much time not wanting to disappoint anyone that we end up disappointing ourselves.
Jen also shares how to protect our energy and give ourselves energy audits. Not spiritual or universal energy, but the energy within ourselves. Our emotional, mental and physical energy so that we can really begin to pay attention where we're burning out and where we don't have the mental, emotional and physical bandwidth to do the things that we want to do, like enjoy our life.
We also talk about:
- The pros and cons of being a high achiever and how to recognize both.
- Expectations we have on ourselves, learn growing up, and take on from others.
- Why it is so important to allow yourself to change your mind.
- What is teaching her kids today that she wished she had learned growing up.
And so much more!

There have probably been times in your life when you felt unsafe and insecure. In those experiences, your fight or flight kicks into high gear and fear can take over your entire body.
Soul embodiment and business mentor Meghan Weir joins the Sisterhood conversation to share tools and practices that help us to feel safe.
Sometimes you don’t know how to name what you are feeling and Meghan’s embodiment practices can help you to release the emotions that you don’t know your body is holding on to.
This is a conversation about feeling safe. Feeling safe with your emotions. Feeling safe with your body. Feeling safe with being your authentic self. Feeling safe with taking off the mask you have been wearing that provided you with protection, but are not serving you. And regulating your nervous system when you don’t feel safe and secure.

A practice for your when your thoughts turn to worry is something I think most of us can use.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, I catch myself in a spiral of future-tripping, which is usually triggered by worry. One worried thought creates another worried thought on top of another…and now I’m down the rabbit hole.
Like many of us, I have had to learn many tools to help me when I’m in this spiral, and one thing that has been supportive lately is to be unattached from the future outcome of what I’m worrying about.
I have needed this reminder so much lately, as I find my thoughts turning towards worry more often than I would like. So this practice is just as much for me as it is for you.

“The spiritual part of being human is feeling all the feels. It’s not unspiritual to have emotions.”
If you feel like your emotions are constantly being bypassed, or that you are a pressure cooker with emotions that are needing to be released, this episode will be so supportive. I wanted to have a conversation about toxic positivity, so I brought in the expert.
Shulamit Ber Levtov is The Entrepreneurs Therapist. For more than 2 decades Shula has been working in the field of mental health and personal growth, and has helped hundreds of women (and men) recover their resilience after experiencing stress and trauma. She's been an entrepreneur for more than 27 years, and in 2017, founded an award-winning holistic stress and trauma clinic in Kemptville, Ontario. She has an MA in Counselling and Spirituality and she is a registered social worker. She is also certified in Focusing, Nonviolent Communication, the Tapas Acupressure Technique and Kripalu Yoga. She is a certified clinical trauma professional who is also trained in assessing and teaching resilience skills.
In this conversation, Shula shares what we can do to be truly positive, without it being toxic.
We talk about:
What toxic positivity is. How we use toxic positivity methods on ourselves. What we can do and say instead. How to feel your feelings in a healthy and supportive way. How we can support someone else’s feelings in a healthy and supportive way. Understanding what a negativity bias is. How feeling your feelings is the way to true positivity. A funny metaphor about your emotions and poop :-) How we can show ourselves self-compassion.And so much more!

The Law of Attraction, or rather, the manifestation coaching industry, sells you the promise that you can have whatever you want, and all you have to do is follow their one sized fits all practice. In this conversation I want to bring awareness to some of the things in the manifestation coaching industry that may be making you feel like a failure, or making you feel like you are doing something wrong, or like you are going mad hatter mad trying to figure it out because it is so vague or doesn’t even make any sense. You are not doing anything wrong!
If you have been confused about manifestation, or the practices and concepts have made you feel like you would never get it, this conversation is for you. I talk about the darker side of the manifestation industry, what to look out for, how your mindset and emotions are not pushing away the things you want, and what you can start doing today to work towards the things you desire.

Continuing on from my conversation in episode 48, I wanted to keep exploring anger.
Anger is such a powerful driver, especially when it is wrapped up in our deepest empathy. I think we all know anger pretty well. We can feel it in our bodies before we even react. There is nothing wrong with getting angry. I mean, welcome to being a human being. You’re going to get angry. But do you want to act on it? That is what we are going to explore in this podcast episode.
I share:
- How my recent anger was empathy in disguise.
- A practice to help you feel, process and understand your anger.
- What you can do when someone is directing anger towards you.
- Learning to express your anger in a positive way.

In this meaningful conversation, I sat down with Tricia Nelson. Tricia is an internationally acclaimed author, transformational TEDx speaker and Emotional Eating Expert.
This is a conversation that I believe many women can relate to.
Tricia shares how her own struggles with emotional eating began in early childhood, where she attempted to cope with the stresses of life and emotional pain by overeating and other destructive behaviours. And how that led her to committing the last three decades, to helping thousands of people heal their relationship with food.
In this conversation you will learn that it was never about food, it was and always has been about your emotions. Something so many of us grow up not talking about, including not being taught coping mechanisms to help us during challenging times. Which is why this conversation is so important.
She also shares:
- How restricting your eating is not the solution.
- An assessment to help you determine if you are an emotional eater.
- Why 98% of diets fail.
- Changing your relationship with yourself and with food.
- Getting to the real root of emotional eating.
And so much more!
“As an emotional eater. the quickest way to gain weight is to try to lose the weight. One of the reasons why diets fail is because they take away your one coping mechanism and gives you no tools as a replacement.”

Anger can be good fuel when focused on a worthy cause, or used to direct our energy towards making positive change. But what I’m seeing lately, is anger towards being different, acting differently, believing in different things, behaving differently, or thinking differently. We can’t even have a different opinion lately without collective anger being directed towards us.
In this conversation I am sharing what my own experience about this has been, how feeling so angry resulted in taking a month long hiatus, how I have been redirecting my anger, and what the impact of constantly being angry can have on us mentally, emotionally, attitudinally, and physically. As well as how it makes us treat each other.
This is not a stop being angry in 10 steps share. This is an open conversation where we explore what finding things to constantly be pissed off about means to us. Being okay that we might have more questions than answers right now. At the end, I share an anger self-assessment that can help you to contemplate and integrate this topic even deeper.

In this meaningful conversation, I sat down with Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Christine MacMillan.
If you didn’t grow up having conversations about pelvic heath, vaginal health, menstrual health, breast health, hormonal health, this conversation is for you.
Christine and I both agree that there is nothing about any of these topics that are or should be embarrassing or cause women any shame.
Women are unique, our bodies are unique and that is also true when it comes to our pelvic organs.
Christine Shares:
- What pelvic health means and why it matters.
- What pelvic physiotherapy is and how you know when you need it.
- What your pelvic organs are.
- What pelvic floor conditions to watch out for.
- The many misperceptions we grow up learning.
Christine Says: “Normalizing disfunction in your body needs to become something of the past.”
In the intro, I share a personal self-assessment you can do to get a baseline of where you are physically, mentally, and emotionally.

After a little hiatus, I'm back with Season 3 and a solo podcast. In this episode I'm talking about my most recent experience of taking a month long hiatus from social media, from creating new content and from my company. I share what I have learned, how the pandemic impacted who I am, the way I want to do business and live my life. I also share what I was experiencing mentally and emotionally that led me to needing to take a break and how giving myself the support I needed showed me that who I am and what I do today is enough - no matter what I do.
My intention with today's share is to give you hope. Especially if you are feeling confused, frustrated and hopeless. I want you to know, even if you don't trust it yet, that there is a light at the end of every dark tunnel.

In this conversation, I'm joined by Ann Hince. Ann is sharing her experience with the therapeutic technique called EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique and how it helped her heal from trauma and PTSD. If you feel like your emotions have full control over your life right now, this conversation is for you.
When Ann was 19, she woke one morning to find her mother dead in her bathroom. Twenty years later the tears from that trauma were still just under the surface. When Ann discovered EFT, it finally helped her to release these emotions - but she went further and can now put her awareness inside her body - what she calls Insight, or inward-sight. Ann has found that seeking out our truth, what we truly feel, and accepting those feelings, is the key to inner peace.
We talk about:
- What EFT is and why it works.
- How to step back and allowing ourselves to feel our feelings without our feelings controlling us.
- She shares the importance of understanding the layers of feelings, including naming them, and where they are in your body.
- How our emotions and our entire body is a signal, and thinking about what signal we are passing on emotionally, for example, through social media before we even process our own emotions around it.
- And so much more!
Favourite takeaway: You don’t have to look for the positive when you are processing the negative emotion. Once you process the negative emotion and get to the healing of that, the positive emotions with just naturally come in because it is actually our truest state.
