  • Do you feel pressure to be positive and happy no matter what life throws your way? In a culture that promotes a “Good Vibes Only” mentality, it can feel as though there’s little space to talk about our real feelings. This pressure to be happy and positive at all costs can lead to toxic positivity.

In this episode Brenda provides insights into how toxic positivity can have a detrimental effect on your mental and emotional health by promoting the suppression of real and valid feelings. It expands on the importance of recognizing that authentic positivity isn’t about masking or ignoring difficult emotions but rather about embracing them as integral parts of the human experience. By encouraging the acknowledgment and processing of all emotions, including those that may be uncomfortable or difficult, this episode advocates for a more holistic approach to emotional well-being. Brenda also emphasizes the impact of toxic positivity on relationships and personal growth, pointing out that genuine connections and personal development come from authenticity in expressing feelings and sharing experiences openly. She invites you to reflect on your own tendencies towards toxic positivity and consider ways to create a more emotionally healthy environment for you and those around you.

Listen in as Alethea and host Brenda Jasmin discuss Alethea’s personal struggles, including severe health issues and loss, and how her desperate situation triggered a journey towards healing which eventually led her to become a holistic health and empowerment coach.

Overcoming mental and physical health challenges taught Alethea about resilience, strength, and the power of the human spirit, insights which she now imparts to others as a life coach. Alethea's experiences also included having near-death experiences, which have deeply impacted her perspective on life and purpose. The conversation ends with a powerful message about the importance of sharing one's story.

  • What do you do when you get caught in a shitstorm? According to today’s guest, when shit happens, the voice in your head that you choose to listen to - and believe – determines whether you’ll end up stuck in Victimtown or on your way to Freedomville.

Liz Long experienced a traumatic event as a child when a close family member went missing, and the crime was never solved. Despite such traumatic circumstances, she was determined to focus on healing and transformation, and she wrote the book, “Navigating Shitstorms” to help others do the same.

In this episode, Liz shares her heartbreaking story with Brenda, along with her powerful journey of healing. Liz shares a practical framework that can help you to understand the voices in your head that can keep you stuck, and what you can do to amplify your heart voice and tap into your intrinsic courage, so you can find your way to freedom, joy and happiness.

    About Liz Long:

Liz Long spent over fifty years stuck in Victimtown. After a close family member, Lynda White, went missing, six-year-old Liz was forced into a shitstorm of epic proportions. Five years later, Lynda’s body was found, and her case remains one of Canada’s longest unsolved murders. Having discovered her own path to healing, including inpatient treatment at a recovery center, Liz is now dedicated to mental health advocacy and inspiring others by sharing her story.
