  • See how stable your rankings really are with the Cora Volatility Tool! In this video, I demonstrate this useful SEO tool that goes beyond traditional rank trackers by showing ranking volatility.

    ⚡25% OFF Cora: https://seosly.com/cora

The Cora Volatility Tool runs multiple searches to reveal the percentage of time your pages and competitors' pages appear for chosen keywords. This helps diagnose issues like ranking fluctuations, Google testing different positions, and potential on-page cannibalization.

I showcase the tool by searching for "best SEO newsletters" to analyze my site's rankings. You can see my optimized page ranks #7 but with some volatility in lower positions. I also appear at #16 and #9 for related pages.

Compare this to the rock-solid top rankings of sites like Ahrefs for a better picture of true SEO stability. See exactly why this insight is so valuable compared to rank checkers that only sample daily rankings. As an exclusive offer to my community, get 25% off Cora with the link below!

Test it out risk-free to take your SEO analysis to the next level.

  • In this episode, I introduce my top SEO tool for 2024 and beyond - Cora. Cora is an advanced SEO tool created by Ted Kubaitis that statistically analyzes hundreds of ranking factors and generates detailed reports showing exactly what your site pages are lacking compared to competitor pages.

    ⚡️25% OFF Cora: https://seosly.com/cora

I've been raving about Cora because it is transforming my work as an SEO for both my own websites and my clients' sites. Here's how it works: you enter a target keyword, location, and device type. Cora shows you the current rankings and then you can run a full report.

The report analyzes the top 100 results and tells you what specific things you should improve in order to overtake the competition. It accounts for "factor diversity" - the idea that over-exploiting one ranking factor causes Google to ignore you for it.

Cora is so powerful because the recipe for ranking success is different for every keyword and every site. I used to optimize pages properly but still couldn't move the needle on tough keywords. Now Cora gives me endless optimization ideas tailored to each situation. I show an example keyword report in the video and walk through how to interpret Cora's unmatched SEO advice.

  • In this video, I give my unique takes on optimizations Google says not to focus on, but I disagree in some cases based on my experience!

I explain why tactics like meta keywords or internal link sculpting may seem outdated, but could still aid SEO with the right approach. And while extreme keyword density is bad, higher density often correlates with better rankings in my testing. I also break down the gray areas around subdomains vs subdirectories, duplicate content issues, optimizing headings, and more.

Just because Google deems something ineffective doesn't mean it can't work with finesse! I share opinions derived from extensive hands-on work - not just relying on Google guidance.

Because search algorithms interacting with the real world require going beyond simplifications.

Check out my contrarian SEO perspectives, examine the evidence yourself, and form your own conclusions. Do these "ignored" factors deserve reexamination? I welcome healthy debate in the comments!

  • Burnout was slowly destroying me. As an ambitious SEO, I worked nonstop trying to get ahead - but I was exhausted all the time. My health and relationships started to crumble under the relentless pressure to do more. I knew something had to change before I hit total rock bottom.

That’s why in this video, I have a real talk about maintaining balance as an SEO with my friend Myriam Jessier. After both struggling with public breakdowns from pushing ourselves to unhealthy extremes, we realized the importance of boundaries and self-care in this results-driven industry.

I get vulnerable about the mental fog, declining energy levels, and constant stress that made me less productive in the long run. Myriam shares her own wake-up call after multiple “ugly cry” moments brought on by SEO overload. Together, we are on the journey toward sustainable work habits that honor our minds and bodies.

I discuss the small tweaks that have slowly empowered me to find more joy and balance. Like blocking off work-free evenings/weekends and getting serious about exercising. Myriam stresses being intentional when clocking out and listening when your mind/body says “enough!” We know there is no shame in prioritizing wellness over hustling constantly.

If you struggle with burnout as an SEO, don’t suffer in silence. Join me and Myriam for an honest dose of inspiration, understanding, and practical tips you need to create lasting positive change. It IS possible to thrive in SEO without losing yourself!

  • After years of obsessively working in SEO, I began feeling burnt out. As an ambitious perfectionist, I had let SEO take over too much of my life.

So this year, I'm determined to achieve better work-life balance. In this video, I share my struggles with SEO overwork and some tactics I'm trying to find more balance, including setting stricter work hours, taking regular breaks, reading books unrelated to SEO, meditating, spending more time outside, and not overpacking my schedule with clients.

I also discuss tools like Asana, Hubstaff, and Flow that help me work in focused "deep work" chunks and track how much time I actually spend working. While SEO will always be a passion of mine, I don't want it to be all-consuming.

My hope is that by being more intentional about balance, I can boost my motivation, energy levels, and enjoyment of SEO in the long run. I'd love to hear from you in the comments about your own experiences finding work-life balance as an SEO! Do you have any other tips? Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • In this episode of the SEO Podcast by #SEOSLY, I discuss the differences between being an SEO employee and working as an independent SEO consultant. As someone who has been in both positions, I share the pros and cons of each. I explain what a typical SEO job entails - set hours, paid time off, limited income potential but steady salary and bonuses.

As a consultant, you run your own business which gives flexibility but also accountability and uncertainty. However, you can charge higher rates and have room for faster growth.

I share why working for someone else was personally frustrating for me, as well as the reasons why I ended up working more hours as a consultant out of passion despite having intended for more free time.

I also touch on the opportunities for continued SEO learning and experiments when you consult directly with clients who allow quick implementation. Overall this video contrasts both worlds so you can better decide where you fit - whether you prefer more structure or higher earnings potential and autonomy.

My goal is to provide value through my knowledge and experience to help you advance your own SEO career. Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • In this video, SEO consultant Olga shares the story of how she made the decision to go solo and become an independent SEO consultant. She talks about how last October (2022) she finally decided to give up her agency SEO jobs and go fully independent starting November 1st.

Initially she struggled with having multiple jobs but eventually got to the point where half her income was from clients and half from an agency. When she finally went fully solo, she suddenly had a lot more time to focus on her own brand, share tutorials and videos, and do what she loves.

Within just 60 days of going independent, Olga not only matched but exceeded her previous agency income as her earnings started trending upwards. She encourages others to take the leap to become an independent consultant if they have the SEO experience and are passionate about it.

The SEO community is also very supportive, as she experienced firsthand when many leaders offered to crowdsource funds to help with a legal issue. Olga reflects that her only regret is not going independent sooner. For anyone considering it, she's happy to provide advice and support to take that step.

  • As an SEO professional with over 10 years of experience working at agencies and now as a solo consultant, I often get asked about the differences between hiring an SEO agency versus an individual SEO consultant.

In this video, I share my insider knowledge to help you make an informed decision when choosing an SEO provider. I break down the pros and cons including communication, pricing, attention received, expertise level, accountability, reporting, strategy creation, onboarding time, custom recommendations, busywork automation, response time, priority level, flexibility in scope changes, transparency about who is working on your site, core specialties, tools and resources utilized, capacity for new clients and more.
