In this episode of Nazareth to Nicaea, Mike Bird talks to Andrew Perriman about his book In the Form of a God: The Pre-existence of the Exalted Christ in Paul (Eugene, OR: Cascade, 2022).
Perriman’s main arguments are:
The “Form of God” means the appearance of a divine being, like the way that Paul and Barnabas were likened to the “form” of Zeus and Hermes in Acts 14:8-18. Harpagmos means snatching after something one does not have. Jesus’ refusal to snatch after “equality with God” is a tacit reference to the temptation story where Jesus refused to usurp the power of the Caesars for his own self-interest. Jesus emptied himself in the sense of submitting to God’s own will.Find the Book at: https://wipfandstock.com/9781666730678/in-the-form-of-a-god/
