  • In this solo episode, Phoebe talks about craft fair tips– how to treat each show as an experiment, tips and tricks for load-in and load out, ideas for booth displays, and more.

    Key Points:

✿ Social media does not define our success and how we are perceived on social media does not define our success.

✿ Craft Fairs are a great opportunity for increasing revenue, building community, and gaining awareness about your brand.

✿ It's important to keep an open mind and think about Craft Fairs as a marketing experiment because not every craft fair is going to work for you.

✿ The TikTok ban; how it’s detrimental to be collecting email addresses and directing those followers/customers to other social platforms or monetizing thru Patreon or Substack.

✿ On handling pushback, “I have the platform and I have the voice, the opportunity, and the privilege to showcase what I'm doing. Why not put it out there? We're allowed out, we’re confident in our sexuality, and that can rub a lot of people the wrong way. So it is a scary thing. • Phoebe is joined by actor, teacher, and creative mentor Kate Bone, founder of Wonderwell, an interdisciplinary creative studio and community focusing on the intersection of creativity and well-being.

Kate shares her journey through the performing arts and how the need to share creative embodiment in a communal space led to the creation of Wonderwell and the WonderBody Studio.

    Key moments and takeaways:

✿ “Embodiment practices are things that we do that make us and help us to feel like ourselves”

✿ “We can’t just expect ourselves to just keep creating without any input; we have to keep putting ourselves in places of wonder and awe, openness, expansion. We need to fill the well.”

✿ Our prevalent culture doesn’t encourage creative pursuits, so we have to make space and advocate for ourselves to bring artistic outlets into our lives.

✿ Art is an abundant market and there’s a need for more artists in the world. There’s plenty of space and resources for us to choose art as a career.

✿ On raising our prices when it feels necessary: “You have to ask for what you need and you have to have equal energetic exchange in what you’re doing in order to survive as a business.”

  • This week we are in conversation with one of Girl Gang Craft’s kindred spirits across the pond. Elizabeth Stiles left her successful career in the fashion industry in the UK to teach multi-hyphenate entrepreneurs what she knew best: manufacturing, marketing, and mindset. Her business journey flourished from a one-to-one approach to a large online community and course offerings for people who want to improve their sales for their product-based businesses.

In this episode you will learn:

    Elizabeth’s “3 M’s” of running a successful product-based business

Real-life strategies for making enough money to be a self-employed creator

How to avoid common “bossy friend” pitfalls in your content strategy

How to set up a balanced mix of “discover, nurture, and outreach” channels without having to invest in a platform you hate

Why memes have the potential to be your most effective ad campaigns

How to get out of your comfort zone so you can avoid “shiny object syndrome” aka “SOS”

    Quotes

Marketing is speaking to people's emotions. A meme does that in a really light-touch way rather than being like, “do you feel like this?”

I call shiny object syndrome “SOS” because it is an actual warning sign for your business if you keep getting distracted by creating new things.
