  • Hello and welcome to Ditto News. Ditto news is the only news platform that brings real-world issues to the forefront and paints the picture of the world that everyone deserves to see. Our mission is to empower people with real facts and knowledge about the world we live in. And now let's get to the story.

The United Kingdom prides itself on many things - David Beckham, Fish and Chips, Big Ben, Red Buses, black cabs, Oasis, Blur, the Beatles, London, and tea. Most of the glory has been achieved by looting half the world but it somehow manages to erase that memory from its population. Well, the people haven't forgotten it all. They still have their animalistic instincts intact.

8000 sexual harassment incidents in the most prestigious private schools in the United Kingdom have been reported on a website called 'Everyone's Invited', launched by Soma Sara, a student at University College London and a survivor of sexual harassment. The incidents have been reported in schools across the country.

In an exclusive interview with NY Times, Soma Sara went on to say that  “Rape culture is real.” and that "If we point the finger at a person, at a place, at a demographic, you’re actually making it seem like these cases are rare or just anomalies, when really, they’re not rare.”

“We are the 97 percent” is a trend on Tiktok that followed the gruesome killing of Sarah Everard. In early March of 2021, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women released a report that revealed that 97 percent of women in the United Kingdom aged 18 to 24 have been victims of sexual harassment in public spaces.

The stats are shocking. It is estimated that approximately 35% of women worldwide have experienced sexual harassment in their lifetime. However, in most countries with data available on rape (including the U.S.), fewer than 40% of those women seek help—and fewer than 10% seek assistance from law enforcement. As a result, most rapists escape punishment. In the U.S., for instance, only 9% of rapists get prosecuted, and only 3% spend time in prison. 97% of rapists walk free.

India doesn't even feature in the top 50 countries in the world when it comes to rape rates but still its divide and rule heritage has made it easy for media houses to picture it as the rape capital of the world. It's the same case for other developing countries in the world. While western media focuses on the response of the authorities when it comes to cases back home, it does the opposite in other parts of the world.

School abuse: 'Rape culture' allegations shocking, says Williamson, Education Secretary- reads the headline of one article on BBC. While a similar shameful incident in India is reported as Hyderabad rape suspect found dead: Is it murder or suicide?

Dalit girl raped and murder: Indians protest over girl's forced cremation (castism shown blatantly within a headline), India woman who accused MP of rape dies in self-immolation

and it further reads- Her death puts the spotlight on the treatment of women in India.

What about the treatment of women in the United Kingdom? Why not focus on solving issues in your own country? 97% of women have shared that they have been sexually harassed in your country? Can we have a story on that too?

With this, we open up the debate to all of you. Is western media overly critical about events happening in other countries?
