Martin Tankleff woke up on the first day of what was supposed to be his senior year of high school only to discover his parents had been brutally murdered in his home while he slept. Marty was taught to trust the police, so he when they told him that his father had regained consciousness long enough to identify him as the attacker, Marty being only 17 years old did not know what to do. Unfortunately, at the time the police department handling the case was corrupt and not interested into looking at potential other obvious suspects.

This case comes with a trigger alert to child abuse. Timothy Ferguson moved in with his biological mother Shanda Vander Ark in North Shores Michigan in 2021 after not being in her care since 2012. In the summer of 2022 Timothy was found dead of malnourishment and hypothermia in the basement of his home- Shanda and her adult son Paul Ferguson had to explain to investigators, the community, a panel of jurors and themselves how exactly they could not see the danger Timothy was in weighing only 69 pounds at the time of his death.
