  • Have you been procrastinating going to therapy?   • As an entrepreneur who works from home, it is very important for me to maintain certain boundaries in order to protect my time, energy, mental health, and relationships and so I can put my best into both my career and my personal life.   • We all know how important sleep is to help us function better in our daily lives: to have improved focus, energy, and motivation.   • Those with high-functioning anxiety wear a mask of calm, perfectionism, success, and busyness on the outside to shroud the torrent of overthinking, self-doubt, overanalyzing, fear of failure, and insecurity on the inside. This mask often stays in place because the fear of “what if’s” keeps it there— what if I’m really not good enough? What if people think I’m a fraud? What if everything falls apart? What if everybody thinks I’m weak, or a failure?   • Hustle culture. “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” The expectation to work all hours of the day now that we can access work from anywhere. These are just a few things that have contributed to declines in mental health in workers, whether you are employed or self-employed. It’s the expectation that you must constantly be doing more, working harder, and that incessant feeling that you aren’t doing enough. The source of these pressures can be both external and self-imposed (especially if you are high-achieving and ambitious), but the consequences are the same: neglecting your own basic self-care in favor of working harder to achieve or maintain success. This isn’t healthy and has to stop, and it’s what we will be exploring further in this episode.

  • Performance anxiety: it’s the psychological and physical nervousness that occurs before and during a performance of any kind that can make it more challenging to focus, do your best, and feel confident in yourself. Performance anxiety affects up to 20% of Americans, including individuals who perform for a living and those who are in positions of leadership.   • In our hyper-productive culture, it can be incredibly easy to confuse being burnt out for laziness, because they can feel like one and the same.
