  • Global disputes are becoming more frequent and complex as corporations and financial institutions continue to enter new markets against a backdrop of tighter regulatory scrutiny, higher accountability standards and intense competition. With more companies doing business in emerging markets, the risks are even greater. All of this creates higher costs and greater liability, requiring that disputes be avoided whenever possible, and resolved efficiently when they arise.

We help clients through the lifecycle of transactions and product development to minimize exposure to risk and avoid disputes. When disputes arise, we guide clients through pre-contentious negotiations and help them choose the best dispute resolution option. We provide expert advice at every step of the process, including litigation, international arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution.

With more than 850 dispute resolution lawyers based in major financial centers and emerging markets, we understand the legal and regulatory environment, language, culture, and way of doing business wherever our clients operate. We also have extensive industry expertise, particularly in the international trade, oil and gas, construction, mining, TMT, cybersecurity, consumer products and retail, pharmaceuticals and life sciences sectors.

  • Managing and protecting intellectual property has become increasingly complex for global companies, which often have huge IP portfolios and operations in multiple jurisdictions with varied IP laws and levels of enforcement. Rapid technological advancements have enabled infringers to become more sophisticated, and the rise of intellectual property as a main driver of mergers and acquisitions has made developing strategies to protect these assets even more important.

Since 1962, we have helped the world's leading multinational companies in all aspects of the acquisition, protection, enforcement and exploitation of their IP rights. With nearly 400 intellectual property lawyers in 40 countries, we cover the full scope of IP services in more jurisdictions than any other firm. Our global coverage, high-quality work and commitment to client service are reflected in the recognition we receive within the legal industry. Since 2009, our practice has been ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global and we were named IP Firm of the Year by Managing IP and IAM Patent & World Trademark Review in 2020.

With expertise in the automotive, luxury and fashion, fast moving consumer goods, financial services, technology, media and entertainment, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals, life sciences and healthcare industries, we advise clients on brand management, brand enforcement, patent litigation, patent prosecution, copyright, IP litigation, trade secrets, IP transactions, tax and IP advisory, and marketing, advertising and promotions. Based on our long experience in the field, we approach IP management as a strategic issue and have developed the people, processes and technologies to serve as a one-stop shop for protecting the IP assets of global businesses.

  • Although the global market has become increasingly open to trade, disparate local laws and varied business and cultural practices can make creating, distributing and selling goods and services in certain markets a major challenge. International trade sanctions limit how companies can do business, as well as customs laws, exchange controls and foreign investment requirements.

Our International Commercial & Trade lawyers help clients overcome these challenges and successfully compete in the world's developed and emerging markets. We advise major industrial, financial services, technology, consumer products, pharmaceutical and energy companies on sourcing, manufacturing, distributing and selling their products and services around the world. We also help clients select, monitor and manage their relationships with the third-party suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and sales agents in their supply chains.

Well-versed in WTO, regulatory and commercial law, we advise companies on compliance issues such as anti-corruption, anti-bribery, trade sanctions and export and import controls, as well as commercial contracts, product labelling requirements, product liability and recalls, and sales promotion and marketing rules across multiple countries. No matter the issue, we focus on simplifying complex trade requirements so our clients can focus on growing their businesses.

  • For today's employers, managing a global workforce requires complying with local labor and employment laws in multiple jurisdictions, staying abreast of rapidly changing regulations, handling the growing demands of labor unions and works councils, and moving talent quickly across borders. It also means developing strategies to retain high-potential employees, especially during reorganizations and spinoffs. To achieve these objectives, it's essential for employers to stay up-to-date on the latest employment trends in areas such as workforce restructuring, reward programs, and labor and human rights.

We work with multinational businesses to manage all of their employment needs, from day-to-day human resources requirements to critical global business change projects. We represent employers in collective bargaining and works council negotiations, and also develop robust industrial relations strategies. In addition, we help multinational companies review their mobility strategies to determine how they can best deploy talent with the appropriate skills to the right market, at the right time to facilitate business success while being compliant.

The largest employment practice in the world, we are the only law firm to be ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global for Employment for 11 consecutive years. We combine our global coverage and wealth of experience handling multijurisdictional assignments with specialized local expertise, enabling us to work across borders, industries and practice areas to fulfill clients' labor and employment needs everywhere they operate.
