  • In today’s episode of the As Told by Nomads Podcast, join me and my guest, Christy Jeziorski, as we talk about using music as a form of diplomacy. Christy is a social entrepreneur, music consultant, creative strategist, and founder of Inity. At a young age, she has already been passionate about music and her journey always led her back to it. Music is so powerful in many ways; listen to the episode now and learn how this has changed her life! 

    Listen to your Intuition 

    Intuition or gut instincts are personal feelings and immediate understandings of certain matters that are mostly always right. Many people neglect their intuition because they’re afraid of the outcome if they follow what they feel. It can be very difficult to follow them, especially when you’re focused on the negative situations that might happen. On the contrary, listening to your intuitions protect you from harmful situations and relationships. It helps you become more aware and avoid unnecessary matters that will waste your time. If you start to acknowledge and accept your gut instincts, your path will be clearer. You can’t really say that your intuition is wrong when you don’t try to prove it right. There are many instances in our life when we wished that we should’ve followed our intuitions from the start. Don’t let overthinking interfere or hinder you from what you think is best for you.

    Breaking Away from Expectations

    People will always have expectations for who you are and what they want you to do. It is hard to break away from these expectations when they’re from our families. We start becoming hesitant to follow our passion because of what others are saying. However, it is important that you realize that you’re the one that should create your future and not anyone else. When you let other people dictate who you should become, you’ll live your life unfulfilled and confused. Christy said that it is important that people find that passion or purpose in their life that makes them feel happy that they could turn into their careers. By having the courage to work hard for your passion, you will never feel like you’re simply working to earn money. Instead, you’ll feel and living your life with a purpose.

    Christy is a music industry professional with over 40 concerts and festivals under her belt as an independent producer and promoter, including the reggae and global music series at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, Colorado, and two seasons of Miami Reggae Festival.

    A consultant and strategist for artists in the global roots music scene (reggae, jazz, afrobeat, folktronica, music of Latin America), and she strives to help artists and brands connect with their audiences through campaigns that are both insight-driven and socially impactful, while at the same time catalyze a form of cultural exchange and diplomacy across borders.

There will also be more opportunities for growth for your business because they’ll help provide ideas and suggestions when needed. Employees usually do not speak up when they feel intimidated by their higher-ups. However, it is truly not that easy especially when you’re not used to communicating, but the outcome when you try is worth it. 

    Employer’s Duty of Care during the COVID-19

    To save the business from failing and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace, an employer must strictly fulfill their duty in taking care of their employees. It has become difficult for everyone to adapt to this new normal, the chances of harming every individual’s health and safety are at huge risk.

    An employer has the role of being the leader in the team and he or she needs to implement strict COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Ensuring as well that the safety of the employees are not harmed while working and consider the possible benefits they can acquire when infected with the disease. The levels of responsibilities are high for an employer, especially in terms of keeping the business going while there is a crisis. And as important as the role is for a leader, the employees should also know how to follow to effectively execute these preventions. Working as a team, learning how to adapt and pivot are critical to the success of the business.   • Today's episode with Dr. Jennifer Mullan (Pronouns: She/ Her). Dr. Mullan creates spaces for people and organizations to heal.She believes that it is essential to create dialogue to address how mental health is deeply affected by systemic inequities and the trauma of oppression, particularly the well-being of Queer Indigenous Black Brown People of Color (QIBPOC).

    Dr. Mullan has earned her Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D) in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies; a Master’s in Counseling & Community Agencies from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education; and her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education, from New Jersey City University. She notes that her dissertation: “Slavery and the Intergenerational Transmission of Trauma in Inner City African American Male Youth: From the Cotton Fields to the Concrete Jungle,” has been a primary foundation for her current work in furthering emotional wellness on a larger collective scale for communities of color.

    She has almost 15 years of experience in clinical practice, higher education, teaching, and grant writing. She is passionately committed to solidarity work that effectively addresses inequities based on race, gender, class, ability, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Her professional research and clinical interests include complex and intergenerational trauma, group psychotherapy, LGBTQIA wellness, spirituality & mindfulness practices, racism as trauma, healing in therapeutic settings, self-love as a revolutionary act, and the process of decolonizing mental health. 

    It is her belief that we can tend to our emotional/ mental health AND hold systemic oppression accountable. You can frequently hear Dr. Mullan stating, “Everything is political!”  

    Dr. Mullan also centralizes Historical and Intergenerational Trauma, which she identifies as Ancestral Trauma, at the crux of decolonization work. Through the movement of Decolonizing Therapy,

    Dr. Mullan can be found providing international keynotes, holding Radicalizing Rage workshops, doing Coaching sessions while un-training mental health professionals, providing Ancestral healing sessions, or spending time with her Goddess cat, Isis.

    The idea of bringing scavenger hunts from the internet to the outdoors happened while Charlie and his brother were traveling together. They thought a scavenger hunt would be the funnest way to engage with their new environment.

I won’t be surprised because it’s clear that what’s needed all over the world in our institutions is reform which is what the #EndSARS movement has become. In addition to fighting against police brutality, it is fighting against bad governance and corruption. It is also fighting for better jobs, education and infrastructures.

    The continuous cycle of brutality and incompetence the government, military and police have shown will not stand.

    This is not what we voted for.
