  • In today's episode of the Affirmations for Black Girls Podcast, join host Tyra The Creative as we embark on a journey of self-discovery and reflection. With March's theme of "A Soul Refresh," we're diving into emotional and mental spring cleaning by exploring our childhoods and embracing discomfort as a pathway to learning. Through thought-provoking questions, we'll gain a better understanding of our perspective and inner workings.

This week’s Affirmation is “I am an open book, ready to explore the pages of my soul with an open heart and open mind.”

    Questions:

How were you praised as a child? What am I putting off that feels important? Why am I avoiding it?When was the last time I truly enjoyed my own company? What was I doing? What’s something that was said to me in my childhood that I carry to this day? What would I say to my younger self now? What’s become more important to me recently than ever before? What have I always accepted as true that turned out to be false?

How were you praised as a child Instagram post

    https://www.instagram.com/p/C2s312ZvKm_/

    Key Takeaways:

Childhood Praise: Reflecting on how we were praised as children can provide insights into our self-worth and perspectives on success.

Embracing Discomfort: By leaning into discomfort and exploring uncomfortable topics, such as our childhood experiences, we can foster personal growth and self-awareness.

Self-Reflection as a Daily Practice: Self-reflection should be an ongoing journey, allowing us to understand our motivations, navigate life's challenges, and cultivate clarity and purpose.

You are enough, just as you are, and that’s just that.

  • In today’s episode, Tyra is sharing some mindset shifts she has made around certain words. Because our definitions are everything. Even if a word is in the dictionary, it often has a different meaning from person to person. Sometimes an emotional difference and sometimes an intellectual difference. But, the important thing is to remember, you decide what words truly mean to you, and this simple mindset shift can be a game changer in your daily life.

This week’s Affirmation is “Happiness is a choice that I continue to choose each and every day.”

Grandma Willie Mae’s Buttermilk Pie ✨

    ❄️ 3 eggs, room temp
    ✨ 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
    ❄️ 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
✨ 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
❄️ 1 cup buttermilk, room temp
    ✨ 1 tsp vanilla
    ❄️ Pinch salt
    ✨ Pinch nutmeg
    ❄️ 1 9in pie crust
Bring all ingredients to room temp so the batter comes together properly. Poke a few holes in the pie crust to prevent air bubbles. Pour into prepared pie pan, that is on top of a sheet tray. Bake at 350F for 45-50 min. I like mine cold with no garnishes, but feel free to add whipped cream and berries.
