  • This week on the podcast my husband joins and we catch you guys up on Ollie’s end of oral treatment and how we celebrated with family far and near! We rave about Icing Smiles and how they made his 4th birthday party EXTRA special! And we touch upon some positive improvements now that our son is finished with his treatment.

We hope you laugh with us as we navigate parenthood despite being sleep deprived, our love for online shopping, and how as a family we’re adjusting to life after our son’s treatment and all the emotions that go with it while keeping our sense of humor in the process.

I felt it was important to document this part in our journey because I often flash back to the early days in our son’s treatment and the deep, dark feeling of hopelessness. This is the episode that I wish I had access to back then. My wish is that someone, somewhere finds this and it’s able to restore a glimmer of hope in their darkest hour.

  • I am so grateful to have met some amazing Momcologists during my son’s treatment. My next guest, Edit Keshishyan is a fellow Momcologist and an Occupational Therapist. We’ve known each other for the last year and a half.

I was so happy when the stars aligned and she joined me on the podcast to talk about her amazing daughter, Emma, and how Edit was able to help her through some of the toughest times during her treatment for Leukemia. With over 10 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, Edit founded her company, Achieving Milestones Therapy, not too long ago.

In this episode Edit shares with us Emma’s story and all the amazing things that OT can do to help children during treatment.  We talk about the many side effects of the chemotherapy our children had to take and we take a deep dive into the multiple facets of OT.

So settle in as we unpack the multitude of ways to help your child during treatment. We touch upon everything from sensory play, to ways to strengthen muscles, increase your child’s gross motor skills (large muscles), their fine motor (smaller muscles) and strengthen their vision.

We even get a special celebrity appearance from Emma as she drops in for a little bit to say “hi” and show me her missing teeth and wiggly tooth!

  •    This week I interviewed Tricia Campero, a fellow momcologist and a woman who has been by my side from the very beginning of my son’s diagnosis. Tricia’s son, Christian was diagnosed with T-Cell Leukemia when he was 5 years old. She shares with us all the ins and outs of his journey back to health. Everything from how she sensed something was not right, to his diagnosis, to his 3 years of treatment including radiation, and they’re experience with Make a Wish and annual family vacation at Hole in the Wall camp in Connecticut. She offers advice for families that are in treatment and takes us into what school was like for Christian coming off treatment. This episode is a special one because Christian joined us for a little bit too! There are no words to express how deeply I am appreciative of Tricia’s friendship. And I know we are connected for life!

I’m delighted to have Molly Hanson, our hospital social worker on the podcast this week. She provides valuable insight into what a typical day looks like for her. We talk all about her role and how she assists families to get them connected to various organizations and nonprofits. • Caring for a loved one during a cancer treatment is often isolating. You’re on call 24/7 and often don’t have the time to connect with others.

What if I told you there is a way for you to connect with other caregivers in real time?  to ask for advice, get questions answered and create lasting friendships well beyond treatment? What if I told you there was a way to connect with other parents, nurses, doctors, child life specialists, child psychologists, cancer survivors and anyone helping support children in the medical world?

Better yet, what if I told you these conversations were happening on demand?

Well my friend, I’d like to introduce you to a new app called Clubhouse. Tara Geraghty rejoins me on the podcast this week and we talk all about her new club called “Pediatric Playground” and how to keep the conversation going wherever you may be.

My time with Tara was chalked full of so many topics that I had to break this into TWO episodes. Make sure to hit “subscribe” so you’ll be notified when part 2 airs and you can hear more about Tara’s story and her book “Making Cancer Fun”.

  • It was an honor to have Beecher Grogan, Lucy’s Mom and Executive Director of Lucy’s Love Bus in Amesbury, Massachusetts. I want to preface this episode that our conversation is focused around End of Life. Beecher was inspired to write her new book titled “Together” after witnessing first hand how important it is to provide space for children to talk and be heard.

This is a very sensitive topic and so please use your best judgement when deciding to listen to it. If you want to learn more about Beecher or Lucy’s Love Bus check out the links in the show notes.

  • It seems that everyone is homeschooling their kids today. And unfortunately we all know too well what it's like even when there isn’t a pandemic. Join me this week as I talk about how I started homeschooling my 3.5 year old. I tell you all the resources that I used to set up a classroom area for my son to help him master the basics. I share with you what I’m doing to help him increase his confidence with daily tasks and set him up for success. What are you doing that’s working well with your child? • Oh man! It feels so good to be back here producing episodes for you! Let’s see! The last episode I aired was back in October 2020, two days before my sweet baby Leo, Ollie’s little brother, decided to enter this world! I’ve been MIA since his arrival and even though I cherish every minute with my husband and my boys, I feel I have a calling to continue this work and continue to share my son’s journey back to health in order to help others feel less alone.

In this episode, Ryan and I give you a bunch of updates! Ry is back at work, and I’m home with the boys! One huge update is that Ollie was moved from the 3 year protocol to the 2 year protocol and now is slated to finish treatment this April! I share with you some Pre K homeschooling tips and we talk about sticker charts and our son’s new found love for an old school board game! Stay tuned in to find out which one it is!

  • Many times families are so focused on the child’s diagnosis and treatment that overall care and well being takes a backseat. I had the pleasure of speaking with Jyll Alvarez, our Spiritual Counselor this week and she shares with us what Palliative Care is, the many services that are under that umbrella and we specifically focus on Spiritual care.

She’s a wealth of knowledge when it comes to working with families and children with life threatening illnesses and allowing them to WONDER and explore the world of spirit and faith. My family has been directly impacted by her services and I hope you gain something from this episode or share it with a friend!

Ry hopped on the podcast with me this time and even though we recorded it a couple weeks ago I still wanted to air it b/c I hope it gives you some laughs, ideas or some additional resources to look into if you have a preschool aged kiddo like me!

This episode is a mash up of family updates, treatment updates, at one point we randomly started talking about Oprah, and then we jumped to homeschooling and prepping Ollie for the new baby’s arrival! I added some new links to the Book and State & Nationwide Resource pages on the A.L.L. Mamma Care website so go check them out!

  • Honestly, I’m not quite sure how to give my next guest Jen Burke a proper introduction. Jen is the President and founder of Saras Smiles. Her angel daughter Sara courageously underwent treatments for Medulloblastoma (a brain tumor) at the age of four. Heartbreakingly, she gained her wings less than a year after diagnosis but her memory still provides thousands of children smiles daily! It was an honor and a privilege to have some time to speak with Jen. I loved hearing about Sara, her interests and the special memories they share as mother and daughter.

I’m truly in awe of Jen, what she’s created with Sara Smiles and what she provides for families like mine in memory of her daughter. Jen’s goal is to give kids fighting cancer as many smiles as possible and know they are not alone. My son, Ollie was a recipient of one of Sara Smiles Kits and we’re still exploring it!  Stay tuned to learn how you can request one for your child too!

  • I’m so glad to be back in the studio after a long hiatus! Life has been busy! We had a great summer, moved into a new house and were lucky to get down to the beach for a couple weeks!

I have some very exciting news that I want to share with you all!! I FINALLY HAVE AN ALL MAMMA CARE WEBSITE!

This has been something that I’ve wanted to have for a very long time but never carved out dedicated time to get it started! I’m so pumped to share this episode with you as I tell you all about how my sister, Mary and I created the website and all the goodies that are on it! Multi level Family Support, Health & Wellness for caregivers, my book list recommendations and my blog highlighting our podcast guests. You can also connect with me directly!

My goal with the ALL MAMMA CARE website is to be a “go to” resource for caregivers. This is the website I wish I had access to when my son was diagnosed. I hope in some small way it’s able to help those who need it.

  • Hey Everyone! I’m back after a little hiatus! This week we share with you a whole bunch of updates! We share whether we’re having a baby boy or girl, we talk about a fun social distance family outing, Ryan shares his love of golf, and we tackle potty training! As I mentioned in the episode to come, potty training can be easily overwhelming for first time parents and even more so for parents with kiddos going through treatment. We share with you an excellent resource that provided us the confidence to take the leap and get rid of the diapers and help our super kid transition to the next stage in being a little boy! We encourage you to keep celebrating your child’s milestones and share them with us! We love hearing from you!

  • I like to think of this episode as some good news and offer hope for the future of pediatric cancer research in a time when our world is hurting. I had the pleasure of speaking with Laura West and again with Courtney Rinaldi from the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. In this episode we highlight all the great things LLS is doing to keep live saving cancer research funded and moving forward no matter what. We review and talk in depth about the LLS Children’s Initiative, a 100 million dollar world wide effort to discover new pediatric cancer treatments for blood cancers. We talk about how LLS can help your family through a cancer diagnosis every step of the way through treatment and beyond. We highlight ways to get involved with LLS through fundraising, volunteering, and joining the movement for better treatment at the governmental level.
